Wow, the amount of surface area that was colonized was huge. The pain she was in must have been immense. The moment that salicylic acid started going to work and that pain started to drift away was probably pure bliss for that cow. Would like to see a 3-4 week follow up on this one.
It never ceases to amaze just how much damage can be hiding underneath that loose horn. I can only imagine the relief that gives the cow to get all that dead, useless tissue paired away so that real healing and regeneration can begin. Something real special I think. The calves are adorable, especially their curiosity about basically everything.

@@patriciamcguire469 It is like that saying, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Maintenence is that prevention because otherwise, the cow would be in pain, not productive, possibly losing weight, et. None of that happens if they get some regular care. even the worst cases here usually resolve themselves within a couple weeks. Amazing stuff.
I literally squealed when I saw the babies!! 😍 They're so cute! Poor girl though! As soon as you touched that heal bulb and it squished like that, I knew it was going to be bad. Glad she's feeling better!
Nate, after having stumbled upon some other channels that do the same content, I have to say I have gained further respect for you after seeing how rough others can be. I was physically cringing when watching this video by a (very) large channel that does the same thing. So many aggressive cuts and carvings, using the grinder around open wounds, no change in carving pressure even at risky depths, the list goes on. The amount of care you give while performing your work is immesurable compared to others. Educational and humane. I'm no activist or anything but cows go alright, its nice to see them being cared for with actual, genuine care. Love your videos, cant wait to learn more
Poor beautiful girl, she had an extensive ouchee!! Great job Nate, she seemed very relieved after her pedi and was able to use her hoof block! Baby cows steal my heart!! So beautiful and full of wonder at all the things in their new world!

Is there ever a concern of cross-contamination with the knife? Like if you're working on one hoof that has digital dermatitis and then you follow it up with going to another hoof. Is there a risk that it could spread on the tools. Is there any type of disinfectant used between cows as well? I know they're probably silly questions but I've always wondered.
Not silly. Yes. I spray my knives with chlorhexidine after working on lesions like this. Cross contamination is low because I spray the lesions liberally with chlorhexidine but it doesn’t hurt to treat the knives as well.

I don't work with animals as part of my career, the most interaction I have with animals in everyday life is dogs and cats. While I know almost nothing about how animals live their lives and the amount of care needed for them, your channel has been so interesting and informative to watch. I really like that you are always so careful so as not to cut to deep and cause pain and excessive bleeding. When I watch a couple of other hoof trimmer channels, and they have similar issues, they always have a lot of bleeding because they are not as careful. I know it happens from time to time, but to see such a large area needing cleaning away and you had almost no bleeding is a testimate to your patience and caring

The care you take Nate is evident, I have seen other hoof trimmers on RU-vid who just blow through as many cows as they can and don't put a whole lot of care into their work and others who obviously care for the cows but also usually make them bleed and jump. They seem more interested sometimes in sponsor placement and loose focus sometimes I feel on their cutting. Then I see you do a very similar trim and let's just say blood is a very rare thing in your videos. I think because you take your time and are very focused on what and where you're cutting. So credit where credits do, one can see you obviously care for these animals and that's just very cool. Excellent video as always Nate and may you and yours have a good holiday.
"Does it Hurt to remove the Horn" Yes it will hurt the cow a bit when the Horn gets removed (the pulling away from the Corium does hurt a little) but the Pain is nothing compared to what the Cow feels when she would put Weight on the infected foot :P As long as the Hooftrimmer doesnt cut into the Corium the process will however do no harm to the Cow. And Nate does a mighty fine Job avoiding cutting into it :3
I stumbled down the RU-vid hole and found this channel. Thank you algorithm gods. I never gave a damn about cattle anything but Im fascinated with this.
I can only imagine that the experience of being trimmed on a foot that sensitive hurts like the blazes, but cows seem to have a stoicism in the face of pain that I, a weak human, can barely grasp.
As always you have the one thing other similar channels seem to skip over,information it’s nice to be told what’s going on so detailed every time after all we aren’t the trimmers you are
I was thinking my family doctor wouldn't refer me to a nutritionniste because she's trying to save tax payers monney (Canada) but your cows have a team of professionnals. Hoof guys, nutritionnistes, etc to care for them. I won't feel bad for going to see a nutritionniste now. Thank you for your videos, I love them, they help with my anxiety

Oh my, that poor thing was seriously lame! You must find great pleasure in knowing your work keeps these very important animals to us in good shape, fixing their feet problems and bringing them relief. For obvious reasons, like we don't like to see any living thing in pain, it is also important to keep our sources of food, such as milking cows like in this video healthy for our own survival benefits. I always like to watch our farrier come shoe our horse. It is like my guaranteed relaxation an entertainment simply because my horse is a goof ball. He really enjoys any kind of veterinary care- even shots! His eyes roll back in his head and he drifts to sleep while they work!🤣 God Bless 🥰
