Saw that ad and I was like what? Woah! Anyways I enjoyed the show so much and I don’t really watch anime. It really is amazing how it mimics real life so well, the world building and the characters. Everything is alive, the events you see move on and are just a piece of the world. You grow up and see the facades of the characters slide off. Such a wild change of perspective that anyone can see just by watching the show at separate times, truly an amazing show.

i saw a couple episodes as a pre-teen, then saw the whole show later as a teenager and have rewatched it as an adult 2 or 3 times. it's fun to think back on what i took away at each stage and the older i get the more important the ending becomes to me. seeing spike stopping to run away and starting to live authenticly despite knowing the price. as a teen i understood that it was important to him and yet i couldn't relate, but as an adult it's probably the most relatable thing he does lol, that running away is it's own kind of hell and no amount of cool spaceships, friendships or beef and bellpeppers will help that. great video dr. sho, thank you for your thoughts

Awesome analysis! Love your understanding of Spike and his actions in the end. I agree that he was (and everyone else) stuck in the past and couldn't move on. How cool your understanding develops as you mature! By the way, I was eating beef and bellpeppers like crazy for a while after the show!

The most memorable scene for me was when Spike lost in a fair fight to Ed's dad, that messed with me for a long time, in fact worse than his actual loss in the end, I just couldn't see the justice in it -- also it was a terrifying reminder of how weak even Spike was on his own, I still don't like the idea because I find it so disempowering.

Haha yea Ed's dad was a weird character! That episode was somewhat out of balance...

Thanks for the video, and the channel. I got into Bebop in my mid-20s, and it just blew me away. I think "Pierrot le Fou" (episode 20) really hit me as something so "other", a creation from a mind so outside of my experience, that it opened my eyes that anime could be something made for adults. This show will always have a special place in my heart. The movie was a nice present, delivered after I thought I had seen all new the Cowboy Bebop I'd ever see. I just popped over to Wikipedia, and it says there is a live-action version coming soon! I had no idea. I hope it is good :)

Cowboy Bebop was the first anime I watched and it changed my life. As a kid, the only anime shows available on tv were a few classic shounen and shoujo shows, which I never found appealing, so I completely lost interest and never watched anime whatsoever. One day, a couple of my high school friends showed me some Cowboy Bebop episodes against my will and, suprisingly enough, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I laughed, I cried, I was amazed, heartbroken, inspired and I adored every second of it. Also, Tank! has to be one of the best openings ever. After that experience, I gave anime another chance and I noticed that I found seinen anime much more appealing to me than shounen and shoujo. I started watching more shows, which led me to a lot of anime series that I love, amazing concepts, characters, themes and stories, incredible art and music, fun communities and incredible people. Because of all this, I will be forever grateful with Cowboy Bebop.

You had an amazing experience! I can totally feel that. Seinen definitely answered my craving for a deeper, more complex and high quality stories. I think Cowboy Bebop showed me what anime can do, which is limitless!

Oh snap! I was caught up in the revelry of remembering the greatness of the animation, I totally forgot about the soundtrack. I've collected... like 10 different versions of Tank!, and I have such gratitude to the show for exposing me to Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts.

Waow.... You saw the same anime as I did. Hahaha.., I think we're pretty much similar, I mean the way we've grown up. This is my second comments on your channel Sho, and I love the way you describe anime based on social sciences. Outside it's influenced me to become an active smoker which is not good I believe. But yes, it's defined my definition of grown up and cool. It is more like what Shakespeare have said: "There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so." In every chapter/episode of Cowboy Bebop, you'll see that whether the antagonist or the protagonist have their own reasons and history. It is about the ability to see the the other side of the story. Always put yourself in both sides situations. And you're right Sho. Life is all about consequences. Actions determine consequences, or to be more precise is that every decision have it's own consequences. Because not taking action is also has its own consequences as it is shown in the last episode which cost Spike's life. Jet and Fay let Spike go to face his past. And yes. It has consequences. Spike is dead, and so did with Vicious. But whether it is good or bad? The answer is return to what William Shakespeare has said. "There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so." Thanks a lot for the discussion Sho. It is quite nostalgic for me. And once again, yes. Cowboy Bebop has determined my definition of cool. 🙏🏽🙏🏽 *Ah.. I just remembered. Iron Blooded Orphan, Gundam. I believe you also have seen the anime. And it would have been good if we have discussion about that anime.

Thanks for your comment. I definitely feel the same vibe. I guess we are anime comrades! Smoking is depicted so cool in Bebop (and other animes too), but it didn't stick to me...lol. You are right that Bebop provides the perspectives of both the protagonist and the antagonist. This is pretty complicated for a kid to understand indeed, and, at the same time, it's good education! I think Gundam has the same aspect, though I was too young to understand this when I watched it... haha We are lucky we watched Cowboy Bebop at the right time in our life!

Thank you for Your wideo and Your thinkthrough. Cowboy Bebop was also for ma a masterpiece. An Opus Magnum that even after 20 years since I first watched it any other anime coudn't compare. But when comes to lesson 5 , yes, Bebop ended. It was masterpiece, but in it's own way. When i watched Akira for the first time, I also feel empy, like something ended. I thought to myslef, "Why it happened?" and I think Akira was also a masterpiece, but with different lesson. After that I learned, that when I watched an anime or a movie, when that "empty" feeling come, I knew I need to watch it again and analyze why it was happening. What was lesson that I''ve could learn. And I hope that You will find many more sources, not ony in anime, that You can use to learn and improve, just like me from Cowboy Bebop and from Your video. Because we learn all our life ;) Greeting from Poland.
