Luke, I’m an OTR trucker and I just can’t get out into the woods much anymore. Maybe twice a year if I’m lucky. I love watching your videos, because after a long day of driving you bring me to the forest, light a fire, and sit down and chat with me. Your cinematography is beautiful, and sometimes I forget that I’m not actually there. I thank you for bringing us along with you. That being said, if you ever get a chance to camp in northern Idaho or Washington state, I would highly recommend the experience. There are so many beautiful places out west that I’ve seen, and so far the Pacific Northwest has stolen my heart. Anyways, thank you for the adventures, and I look forward to the next!

I have to say this one about put me to sleep. Not because it was boring, because they never are, but the sound of the wind with the crackling of the fire, was absolutely relaxing. You should do a 4-8 hr video of just that.

Those "cards" used to be a box the main meal pouch came in, a little cardboard box with the info on it (I served in the Marines from 2002-2012, and ate my fair share of MREs, although it was nice the menu would rotate every few years for variety).

I’m a sucker for surplus gear. Priced right and pretty durable. I did my first cowboy camp in a USMC surplus bivy bag earlier this summer. I went to the Tail of the Dragon on my motorcycle. The weather was clear so just the bivy, sleeping bag and pad.

Hey Luke, I had something similar when I lived in Connecticut. Got a new car, turned in the old plates at the DMV in Norwalk, CT who are supposed to destroy them. Remembered the lady & everything. About...2 months or so, start getting letters on toll charges over the bridges in NYC (which we all know isn't cheap!). Brought a copy of the letter down to the DMV, same lady. I told her my plates were supposed to be destroyed (it was a special vanity plate with a Star Wars name on it) and wasn't. She said it would be taken care of. I also called the number on the letter and told them I no longer had those plates, they were turned in, yada, yada, yada. They dropped the charges. Like my aunt always said, tear your plates in half when turning them in.

Another very enjoyable video with great content! I had a similar problem with a speeding ticket in Austin, Texas. “The speed camera never lies” the guy told me and it was my corvette going 45 mph over the limit. Except I don’t have a corvette nor have I ever been to Austin. It took four or five phone calls to get the guy in El Paso to actually look into it. A true cluster all the way around! And it is a racket… small lcities can install two or three cameras on busy streets and pretty much pay a big share of their police budget.

Nice camp Luke👍👍 great weather too. 60+ days of 95F+ weather here, I'm envious of you. The SW is broiling, relentless heat, even the mountains are crying during the daylight hours, no fun. Always liked military surplus gear, weight is a factor but ruggedness and the uniqueness is a plus. Yep, Triox is nasty stuff but a guaranteed fire every time given you do your part. MRE goodness..😉 Great video, well done, thanks.

I can see why folks love tarps. I like em too. For me, a tarp is just not enough of a shelter for a camping trip. I want a TENT. I wanna crawl in there, or walk in there, and KNOW that there are not going to be creepy crawly things, or flying little insect pilots zooming around, or anything else. I gotta HAVE a tent, with a sewn in floor, and mosquito netting doors. For me, a tarp is something that you put OVER the tent, or a way for me to make a cabana.... for me to sit under.... out of the Sun. That being said, I like all your vids and you ARE the Jeremiah Johnson of youtube, player. You have flat out PROVEN that you are an outdoorsman on social media, and thanks for the vids. Explore that A frame; I am telling ya it can not be beat. The A frame tent is so time tested and proven that it is simply the best tent to carry in a backpack.

Great adventure Luke, as always, much appreciated. It brought back memories of my younger days. While stationed in Kodiak, AK I went on an overnight hunt with a friend. We hiked halfway up Barometer Mt to camp and then hunt the next day. We were above the tree line but there were shrubs. I had my gear and a survival tarp and he had all his gear minus the tarp. He laughed because it wasn't supposed to rain. But I knew in the morning we would be covered in dew. Morning came and I was dry. Him? Not so lucky. Tarps make all the difference when set up right. Stay safe and God bless. I will be heading out to your corner of the state in a little while. Save me some cool temps.

The "info card" in the MRE is a sleeve, intended to be placed around the outside of the flameless ration heater so it can be handled while it's all heating up and after it gets hot, and it provides a surface under which to tuck in the top of the opened FRH. WRT the cheese, don't put it directly in the FRH with the main, but keep it on the outside. If it heats up too much, it will split with the fat leaking out of the emulsion. It will also help to knead the cheese before heating it up. As for the nutrition information, since it is a federal law that all foods produced or sold in the US must have that nutritional information panel on them, the sleeve is a logical place to print it.

When I was in Girl Scouts 48 years ago, lol we took tuna cans rolled cardboard cut to how tall it was pour sawdust over the top and then pour hot wax over the top of that. Stick a small piece of cardboard in the middle and we cooked with that! Makes a great fire starter just make sure you take the empty can out with you. Worked great.

Enjoy your hiking and camping videos the most. Last time I camped out in the woods I was 15 years old , I just turned 58 . Worked all my life telling myself gonna go camping next month then next month and next month never got here . Then one day you wake up 50 years old and arthritis and scoliosis have taken over and you can't walk very far at the time .what I would give to be able to sit by a campfire out in the woods one more time. But at least I get to enjoy the experience thru your videos they are much appreciated you subscriber and follower here in n.c. ...later jimmy.

Great video Luke. Your story about you guys being charged for the stuff in DC. Be careful. Could be someone stole your identity. You and Susie along with your viewers should freeze your credit. My wife and I keep our credit frozen then unfreeze when buying a car, getting loan etc. We then freeze it after. Keeps anyone from trying to use your identity to purchase things that require credit checks. I highly suggest you guys do this as added protection.

Luke, matches, when you use book matches, it’s easier to strike the match with the match between the book flap and the strike strip. Put the match between the strike plate and the flap, pinch the match head against the strike plate and pull it across the plate.

I love cowboy camping...much more so than sleeping in a tent. This was a great video. The relaxed way you present your tarp set ups, the camp fire, making coffee, bed set up and so on. The MRE, however, brought back some awful meal time memories I experienced while out on bivouac. MREs are disgusting. I used to cheat by bringing my own meals from home. Lol. Guys would offer me money for my meals. I still have trio and tabs I bought from ebay some 10 years ago. They are packed in my survival gear locker in my van.

That looks so fun! I'm disabled and miss camping so much - so I go with you, and appreciate very much your taking us! I don't know why I love the gear review since I'll never use, but I guess it brings me back to my Coleman lantern and campfire days. I love your honesty and impartial assessments. And if Bigfoot is real how come Luke never sees one? PS You're also kind of like the 2023 Henry David Thoreau lol

Mmm, nothing like a little formaldehyde creamer with your coffee. I love surplus stores. Awesome stuff. Have a couple packs from there and they work great.
