'But you'd have to pay them all' Is the most ignorant point I've ever seen on this topic. Do you pay LeBron the same as you pay the last guy on the bench? No. So why do people think you'd pay the starting QB of USC, the same as the center back on the soccer team? It's so ignorant.

I don't think all the blame goes on the NCAA. I agree that their rules are stupid regarding profit towards its players. However, it is the responsiblity of the NBA to create a youth developmental league for high school players to develop. European clubs in soccer sign kids at 10-11 year old and develop them for 8-9 years. That is why US soccer stinks. Everyone thinks every kid needs to have a college degree.

Stephen B. Smith agrees and in football/soccer the players in youth teams get paid too. Not everyone wants to go to college.

Top10In TheWorld they do get paid it's not always a great amount/in money though. I was in the Cardiff academy (not great but was in the premier league at the time) and I had a free lift to training/games, free boots clothing etc for the entire time I was there. Could have got a contract at 16 if I was good enough (which I sadly wasn't) and would've got around £500 a week until I played a first team game.

NCAA players should be paid up front. This has been going on for decades, and the players are the ones that suffer in the end. They can get hurt and have their future sports career ruined. Then what. IF they paid the players, some might stay there a little longer. The universities are making millions. MILLIONS. Paying the players would not be much. The "boosters and alumni" do a lot of under the table paying.

The NBA should make moves and try to make the G-League the destination for top level high school players that can make it to the NBA, as opposed to NCAA basketball. At the very least it should be an option.

If the NCAA was listening Stephen Jackson, the colleges will simply stop recruiting kids who are in those situations because that seems to be the problem, not the NCAA. Remember, the "one and done" rule is not a NCAA rule, but an NBA one.
@martyc909
@martyc909 6 лет назад
Boots Malone the one and done was done because a lot of players were skipping college and declaring for the draft, then getting drafted in the second round, ruining their lives because they should have went to college.
@cityboychad
@cityboychad 6 лет назад
martyc909 So we shouldn't allow people to make poor decisions? When did it become the NCAAs and NBAs fault that some kid made a bad decision? Those kids have people telling them two things: You're not ready for the pros yet or go make that money. Also, as far as ruining their lives, a second round contract can mean the difference from living in the hood or moving to the suburbs. Sometimes it is just about getting out and not making millions.
@martyc909
@martyc909 6 лет назад
To be honest Boots Malone, I agree with you. I just explained the one and done rule and why it was there. But I would fully get behind an NBA minor league system, 4 levels deep like MLB, get a lot of kids out of high school, and they can play ball professionally, even not at an NBA level, Maybe the NBA would need to keep a 19 year old age limit, so that the best 18 year olds are playing in the G-League, which would be the draw. Plus if you have levels, each team can run 3 minor league teams, so you'd have 90 minor league teams, at 12 man rosters, that's 1080 players more getting paid, maybe not millions, but getting paid.
@forestrunnels779

How about each program has to pay all its players a pre-determined % of the revenue earned? And it could be for all sports at each school so all the athletes can get paid according to program worth. That is fair imo.

Lol Famous line of a Leftist. Racist, homophobe...whatever name calling you can do bc you certainly jave no line of reasoning. I didn't say don't pay the black players, just not 'any' pkayers. That you found racism in that, shows that you are actually the radist, seeing race in anything. The lab students who work for the university trying to obtain their Masters or doctoral degree don't get paid, in fact they pay for their edication. The Texas high school football players who fill the stadiums don't get paid, they are students. Your logic that bc I believe atudents should not get paod for playing a frickin game they love, is 'racist' shows yiur inability to go beyond dogma and, well, a low IQ.
@tomadamo3226
@tomadamo3226 5 лет назад
@@mikecatadjuster black students overwhelmingly create most of the revenue from their sports. What percentage of players are black in college football or basketball? These are the sports that generate almost all of the money. Not tennis or hockey or la Crosse. But it's just pro football and basketball where you have to play in the NCAA first. Not saying you're racist, but it is a problem that deeply involves race.

There's no real punishment right now, law wise for paying student athletes. Give every college a certain number of allowed paid athletes. Each college decides how much they wanna pay each one of their blue chippers. .. Create an entity to enforce this.. If found making hidden payments Fines, (to benifit other lower level colleges-like a luxury tax) ; jail, and/or reduced scholarships, etc. Done.

Idk man, I'm not sure how many non athletes choose schools because of sports. Sure it might create a name for the school but Idk if the money they earn from the students that chose the school because they are fans of the school's sports teams would even equal the money the school spends on those specific sports.

The NCAA functions as development league for the NFL and NBA. The reality is pro football and pro basketball need to pony up the cash for their own development leagues. The NBA at least has the G-League. But its needs to put more money into it. It is not the responsibility of American colleges to prepare athletes to go into the big sports leagues.

Pay someone to play college sports? That does not make sense to me. Honestly less than 1% of college athletes are going to make millions or even go pro. Colleges at times don’t even know the one percent, there’s breakout stars and busts. It’s not the college fault you grew up poor or need the money now. The systems is not made for the one and done it’s made for those who need the degree to get a job after college!! When the nba allowed high school players to enter the nba, college basketball was doing well

Honestly it shouldn't be built for the best players. At least not in basketball. Basketball players can go over seas and play for money right out of college and still get to the NBA. They don't have to go to college unless they want to benefit from the exposure, top notch training facilities, development, education, top notch training staff, lawyers for when they get in trouble, doctors for when they get hurt, health insurance to a n extent for when they get hurt, security at the games etc. If they start paying the players they'll likely start leaving it up to the players to pay for what they need to get through college. Most of these kids at that age would waste that money. As far as being able to skip college. That's an issue that needs to be taken up with the actual pro leagues. Colleges don't stop you from going pro out of HS. The NFL and NBA do.

@3:23 that's the problem, you shouldn't go to school to play sports, you should go for the education. It's a university, a place for higher learning, not a gym club. And those guys that are good college players but will never be NFL or NBA players what are they planning on doing for the rest of their lives? They should cherish the education and career opportunities college provides for them. They came from a single parent home with no money, and what are they planning on doing in the future? And keep in mind that free education, most other's will spend a good portion of their lives paying for. I've been out of school for over a decade now and I'm still paying off loans. And I went to cheap schools, just imagine the price of tuition at ULC or Florida State.

It wouldn't be fair if they only pay the revenue generating players. That would cause issues if 2 players are getting a check & the rest are reminded they aren't that good so that's why they won't get paid. They are making it seem like just pay the players. But it's never just that cut & dry. Then if the nba lets 18 year olds in & create there own league what owners are going to want to pay all these guys 6 figures like Rachel Nichols is suggesting? Will that even create decent revenue?c
