It’s been a minute (or 35 years) but I recognize baby brain…you just roll with it and loovvve your life and baby boy! Wanted to mention that Lavandole is spun with wool from sheep in the Abruzzi region in Italy. Can’t wait for the Spookiness to begin! Am blown away by how prolific you are. Thank you 🙏🏼
So wonderful to see you again. Everest is such a beautiful precious baby. Congratulations! The top you are wearing in this episode is terrific. The colors and pattern go so very well together. I think the “wrinkles” in the front just give the top a casual, summery feeling. Really looks fabulous. Until the next time. Salam wa sa’aadah
So happy to catch up with you again, Mel! A huge congrats on Evie! I loved seeing all the different color combos for the new update as I knit on my last summer knit this year, the Lou cami ✨
Just found you & wanted to say how much I enjoyed your podcast. Beautiful colours of yarn & congratulations on your gorgeous little one. My heart went out to you when you talked about not having your husband there for the first 5 days in hospital with your baby. That must have been so hard for both of you. Mine is almost 33 & I can still remember what it was like.. and I was in hospital for 8 days. I hope you are enjoying every single moment as a new family 😘
Baby tips: fly during baby’s nap or sleep time. Nurse during take off and landing. But some over night diapers to use during the flight so you don’t have to change them too often. USE A BABY CARRIER IN THE AIRPORT INSTEAD OF STROLLER. That is my number 1 tip. It will make life sooo much easier.
Glad to finally catch up on your August episode (took a couple days of pausing in between taking care of my boys🤪). Living in Japan, I had my first before the pandemic and my husband could come visit every day, which was a blessing. Having my second during the pandemic, he couldn’t visit and I was in the hospital for 9 days! There were def tears upon going home to be with family again. Good luck with the flight. I dread the day I have to take my babes on an international flight. Gorgeous colors as always.
So nice to see you back here Mel! It has been a big few months for you. When I flew with babies I would feed at take off and landing and if they had a favourite dummy/pacifier/toy I would find a way to attach to their clothes or yours when they are awake so you don’t have to worry about it falling on the floor
I love the "speckle action" comment. Haha! Your colors are gorgeous! Your suri is incredible. I was so excited to see you pop up and love the family updates. Too cute to hear the baby getting sung too. Take it easy, knit and enjoy your baby. He's precious!!! All the best, Kimberly
Sooo good to see you back. Good to see you and your beautiful Everest. Your FO's are so cool. Love all the patterns. The yarn combinations are so stunning. Would love to hear more about family, Japanese naming ceremonies, and how you both chose his Japanese name? How are you doing?
Tips for flying with baby- feed/ breastfeed on take off and landing so baby’s ears can equalise. Ask if you and Tim can eat at different times on the flight so one of you can hold baby.
So so happy to hear everything has been great with Evi! Wishing you and Tim allll the (continued) strength needed as new parents haha also super hype for this update, if I can manage it would love to get my hands on some suri alpaca - never worked with it before! Now need to decide which color 🤩
Thank you so much for giving us some news ! I am so glad you're back, so glad you and your little pumpkin are doing well 💕 If you don't put out another video before your departure to USA, have a nice trip and see u in the next episode !
Thanks for the update. I absolutely love your stripey sweater WIP! The colours are gorgeous on you. I’ve noticed you tend toward warm, earthy tones in your knits…but maybe blues and greens would be a nice change. Have a good trip to the US. Hope that’s not too hard with baby.
Hey Mel and welcome back 🥰 congratulation to both you and Tim with Evi ❤️ he is so cute thank you for sharing pictures of him. You’re such an amazing inspiration and the yarn you dye is beautiful 🤩👍👏
So glad you all are doing well. Your baby is so beautiful! I'll probably miss another shop update but that wool linen blend looks so good! what an excellent choice. I'm knitting commissions and stock for winter craft fairs. One of my commissions is a Coraline sweater, the stars one. Its been so fun to make. Fandom knits are a favorite of mine because you get to help people dream knits come true. I hope traveling goes so smoothly for you all.
Hey Mel! Welcome back! I really missed having your episodes to enjoy. Congrats again on Evi! He is such a cutie! I'm so excited for the update and I'm really glad you showed all the yarn, because I'm so blown away by the cool impact the linen has on the colorways. It is so cool how the same dying process affects different bases so differently! I'm also mad for the Tsuki/Kage pairing you showed off! I MUST have that! Can't wait!
I just flew from Korea to the US with a 4 month old! It was rough, especially the time change, but we made it. It helps to wear a baby carrier and a backpack. They don’t make you take baby out to go through security. But we also brought a stroller and that was nice for our long layover in Seattle. I got up and stood in the flight attendant/exit area to bounce baby to sleep. Good luck!
I was really happy to see your DAA. I've been collecting 'green' minis ever since you first shared that cardigan because I'm so enamored with yours! Considering that I've always avoided fingering weight sweaters, that's saying a lot!
I’m happy to see you back I started watching you back towards the beginning of my knitting journey & I feel like I’ve come so far in the time you’ve been gone so now I can make the things I see you make that I like 😂 congratulations on having your little one ❤️
It was so good to see you! Your shop update looks amazing! I’m really hoping to get a few skeins of Coraline in the wool/linen base! While I was watching I was editing my own podcast episode, and you were actually the first yarn podcaster that I ever watched, so you really inspire me! As for international flights, I’m doing the same flight from Japan -> US later this year as well, and it’s not the first time I’ve done it with kids. So here’s what I’m doing again. Breastfeeding during takeoff/landing (helps their ears pop), I’m getting my babies their own seats, and ideally I would be bringing a car seat for them to sleep in, but because I can’t do that this time I’m getting an airline harness from AmazonJP thatt the FDAA approves. I’m going to be getting some random toys from Daiso for the trip, new toys hold more attention than already owned ones. I would bring a blanket, baby is probably going to sleep on you for some of the flight, so having something to prop your arm up higher than the armrest is going to be helpful!
Now I have a movie list. Ive only seen The Grudge (American version) and Coraline. And I really liked both yarns but I had to pick. This is my first time for hand dyed that is not going to be a hat.
What are the weight and length for the trusty sock and DK worsted? About how many would I need to make a size M pullover sweater? Sorry I'm a bit new so I don't know how much I would need. Thank you so much.
Hi there! No need to be sorry! The trusty sock is 400 m., 437 yards & the SWM DK is 225 m./ 246 yards. Each of those bases come in 100g skeins. As for how many, that’s a bit hard to estimate since it depends on the style of sweater, but a basic raglan sweater would probably need 3 skeins of the trusty sock or 4 skeins of dk (but please check with the pattern you’d like for the actual yardage requirement if you want to be extra sure!)
Wait to nurse at take off and landing. Helps with a quieter baby. If the baby cries don’t feel bad. Lots of parents understand. Once you can move around the cabin and he’s fed up, walk him around. The hard time is when you can’t get up and they want out of the seat (toddlers) especially.
Hi Mel, Homeopathics😀😛,Camomile, harmless to baby, and can calm them right down.i used them foe my son Charlie when we flew when he was little, also great for teething! Congratulations to your family, and great dyeing!
Am I confused!? 🤷🏻♀️ it’s august 28th and you said baby born august 12th, 4 months ago. Was he born 4 months ago or on the 12 th of august? Don’t apologize for being a mom, you got a baby to take care of. Us moms understand how much babies need their mommy! Good to have you back.
