Hello lovely Kriksis art community! Welcome to this cozy and calm handmade watercolour swatching session. I am so exited to share with you these handmade watercolour brands - Ericius art, Beyond indigo and Essee colours. Today I decided to swatch them in different bird colour shapes to make this little bit more interesting.
Grab yourself a drink of your choice and work on your own projects while watching this video. I hope this video can make you feel calm and cozy.

Inspiration to do interesting watercolour swatches came from ‪@NatashaNewtonArt‬ , but instead of doing botanical illustrations I decided to make interesting bird shapes. :)

Kudos to Essee for actually listing pigment numbers on their website. It really makes a difference when deciding to buy watercolors.

Yes indeed! :) Also they list pigment names on each pan when they arrive, I thought that was a nice touch too which I forgot to mention in the video. :))

I've only just started watching and I must tell you that I placed an order the other day with Beyond Indigo and I bought the exact colour you have: Scorched Earth! How do we do this?! (I also ordered Eucalyptus and a sample dot of another one that I can't remember the name of right now). Ok, back to watching... :) Edited to add: I've watched it all now and I love this way of swatching! Your little birds are so beautiful and the colours are gorgeous. I would 100% put that swatch sheet on my wall as an artwork! I am so, so tempted by some of these colours...I must resist...I must resist...we'll see how long I'm able to hold off from buying some! I love that you say the watercolors need time to wake up. As a human that needs lots of time to wake up myself, this is the best way to go. Let them yawn and stretch and get ready for the day. It is a lovely and endearing way to talk about the paints and it is perfect for your style. 😊

Birds in colour is the perfect way to swatch these amazing handmade colours.For brushes maybe try the Betty Hayway handmade brushes or the Daler Rowney pro-art prolene brushes,both are staples for me and Natasha inspired me to try the Betty Hayway brushes.(Matt)

Birds in colour. Wow what an eye candy of a video! Where to start? I’m loving your recent work in watercolour, and I dare to say, more than your gouache paintings even (but I’m a biased, watercolour is my favourite always). The paints look gorgeous… I obviously went to check the sellers and unfortunately, Ericius Europe shop is closed :( But I’m probably getting something from Essee. Love their caput Mortuum and as usual, our diametrically opposite taste, I loved the maya indigo!

Since you say it’s old paper - it can be watercolor paper with broken down sizing. I can very much relate to “while I was waiting for my order I ordered more” 😅 Thinking now if I maybe need Essee’s wooden palette while I’m waiting for a few colos from her

Birds in colour is a lovely way to swatch, even if I didn’t get to say this within the first 24 hours. I think the seizing of the paper may have deteriorated. Watercolour paper does that after a while I think unless it’s stored in a temperature and humidity controlled place. And who can afford one of those? The swatches still look beautiful though!

Stupid tip (and I can't remember for the life of me where I got it from): to get the brush tips back, boil hot water, and dip the hairs of your brushes in for a couple of seconds, let them hang to dry so the water drips out. Voila! Your brushes will be brand-spanking new! I do this all the time, even saves some of my mom's old brushes too.

I loved how the birds were already sketches with texture so the paint could be seen over the artwork and we had a more realistic view of how it would look on the actual sketches I love these videos amd little doggo like a companion beside you in tge beginning tea looked cozy i love tea with soy milk ❤ I always stay to the end your videos are awsome BIRDS IN COLOUR ❤
