This was filmed about a year ago when Buffalo had their massive snow storm that dumped over 6 feet of snow on the city. CP had to reroute a couple of its trains through Windsor which included CP 142/143. 142/143 used to come through Windsor (I have multiple videos on here from about 3 years ago of them in Windsor). Before Hunter Harrison came into the picture at CP HQ CP ran 4 intermodals through Windsor. 140/141 and 142/143. Hunter put the two sets of trains together. 140 and 142 were amalgamated into 142 as was 141 and 143. This made the trains over 10 000 feet long. Due to the tunnel not being able to accept high cubed double-stack container traffic the trains had to run mostly single stack making them 10 000+ feet long. To fix this issue CP rerouted them off of the Windsor Sub and onto the Hamilton Sub via the Galt Sub. to take the crossing at Fort Erie and Buffalo. They then took CSX to get to Chicago. During the snow storm CP had to go back to how they used to operate in Windsor for about a week. I was able to catch 143 twice. This was the 1st time of the two. This video shows 143 traversing the CP CASO connector track and onto what's left of the CASO Subdivision. This area is a little grey in terms of what to call it since the Windsor Sub. ends at the end of Windsor Yard. At the same time the tracks that continue to the tunnel are considered the Windsor Sub as well but are called the CASO connector tracks and aren't considered mainlines. The CASO that CP runs on is all owned by CP now after the early 90s when CN pulled out of the Windsor tunnel project and went to Sarnia. This part of the CASO is considered to be the Windsor Sub. up until 15th St in Detroit when it becomes Conrail track. With CP bidding to purchase NS today it has started to stir up speculation as to what the future of this line holds if CP and NS do merge or one takes over the other. Traffic has declined a little bit over the years and the idea of enlarging the tunnel was put on the back burner this year due to no government funding. This is what we saw with the CASO Sub. when CP and CN purchased it (1980s) and ran it into the ground (mainly CN's doing) and then they abandoned and tore it up leaving only small sections still in place and in use like the tunnel, a section from Van de Water Yard in Windsor to Pelton (South Windsor) and CP still uses a very stripped down section in Fort Erie (part of the Hamilton Sub) at the CASO's Eastern terminus. Anyways, enjoy this short video!
