I love how you add both the natural and geographical history, as well as the anthropological interactions with this organism. Keep it up, with this quality I have no doubt your viewership will steadily increase to a critical mass and then spike up suddenly.

That's my love and hope for the channel as well :) I sort of feel like no one is doing a channel based on those ideas and the interplay of people/politics and culture on fish. But i also want to have "the normal content", like diy guides, explaining basics, and species profiles.

Since Alexander is a fantastic artist, it would be better to have a drawing of the two cray-cray fighters in his tank, dressed as a Jaguar Warrior and Eagle Warrior, with Macuahuitl in their pincers, while blowing death whistles?

I had the blue ones...so dang adorable to watch...they mock boxed, ate anything and everything, were out and about all the time, learned to come and take food from tweezers. Just really fun lil critters to have and observe. When things settle down I'm probably going to set up a retirement tank for old or culled fish and shrimp and let a pair of them call that their permanent home. 👍💕👍

I got 4 of these little guys a week ago and they are doing great. I have them in a 10 gallon now, but so far they haven't fought too much. They just spar a little and one will swim off. I made sure they have plenty of hiding spots with a few slate stones placed across on the substrate then I dug out under them, they also have a few tiny terracotta pots that I broke in half buried throughout the tank, a pile of medium sized rocks and a gnarly piece of driftwood, plus various plants throughout. One molted under a piece of slate and hid there for about 2 days. I put a chunk of frozen BBS on a forked bamboo skewer and put it in front of him, he came out and grabbed it off and went back under his rock for a few more hours.

Cute little crustacean crayfish. I've never kept any, but watching this video, I think I'll give it a try. I might actually be able to see them better than the shrimp. About how much territory do you think each one would need to try to keep peace?
@Fishtory

Probably half a square foot or so? Maybe 5 gallons per crayfish for optimal comfort. But if you cram more in, they just establish a pecking order and figure it out....but sometimes a leg or claw will go missing in the process

Good sir, what would you say about keeping these in soft water? Seems like there is a lot of variety out there on optimal GH/KH (some are pretty soft, others request concrete-water!). I just added 3 to a 6.5ph, low GH/KH tank, thinking now I need to get some equilibrium! Oh, happy fishtoberfest!
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 2 года назад
Honestly equilibrium will probably cycle out with water changes, much faster. I'd buy about a pound/ 550grams of crushed coral or shells and mix it around the substrate...works like a charm for me. Good luck

Is there any issues with keeping them with certain plants, Moss, or tank mates? I’ve never been able to keep crays in anything other than a hard scape species tank and it would be cool to have another invert in a Neocaridina setup.
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 5 лет назад
Not that i know of...other than too high of water flow ( they need some slow spots with a subtle current to carry debris past , since they forage through the bottom detritus and leaves.). However, they don't eat many live plants unless starving. So feeding some fish food, algae or shrimp pellets will do just fine.
