Never be ashamed of enjoying your yarn. Check out a wood workers shop they don’t call their enjoyment of their craft a stash or be embarrassed about their hobby items. Be proud of the fact you can go into your craft you and create. It’s an awesome room. 🍾👏🏻🎉
Hi Michelle, you're absolutely right :) I am very happy and grateful that I have been able to accumulate this collection but it's going to be even more fun putting it all to good use!
You have done A GREAT JOB. I have so much craft m;ateral that we built a room for my ‘stuff. It’ even has two full sized looms to store my wool from my sheep. God has surly blessed me. Ellie
I have sooooo much missed your cheerful videos. Your crochet patterns and tutorials are what I use and rely on the most. I just finished crocheting a baby sweater from one of your patterns and it turned out so cute. I plan on making more and donating them to our hospital. You are simply the best. And thank you for your summertime smiles in the dead of winter. :)
You have inspired me to create my own craft space. After my second daughter was born I took up crocheting as a stay at home mom I needed a creative outlet. I haven't made a space for myself to go and crochet or do something crafty. Right now my yarn collection is still reasonably small but today I'm going to start organizing and making a small space for my craftiness. Thank uou so much I love your videos and your inspiration
I've been watching craft room tours throughout the night, and honestly your room is the only one that "speaks" to me, I love everything in there, and will surely be using some of your ideas while I'm waiting on on our DIY construction of our extended bedroom, entertainment area and my little craft space to be completed, thank you Jayda🥰❤🧶🧶
You are just like me, I love bright colors, not drab dull dark colors. I am a very cheerful person and I laugh a lot like you do. You would be surprised at how much we are alike. I have all of my yarn in a closet of one of my sons who has already left home over 5 years ago to live in D.C. and I have it organized on the shelf and in boxes facing out and I also use cloth shelving units that hang for like storing sweaters in, but I store yarn in them instead (I have 2). I love rainbows so I tend to do a lot of crocheting with those colors and since purple is my favorite color, I have a lot of that color. I also noticed how you store your afghans or blankets too. I myself would put them all in one area. So that if someone wanted to use one, I would go directly to one space and they could see all that I have done and be able to pick from there. So far with the Afghans that I have made for my sons and girlfriend I use the left over to make pet beds for their cats to match the afghans because I am crocheting with two strands at one time and it uses them up quicker. I plan on using all of my other leftovers to make another scrap afghan when I have collected enough of it.
Sweet way of organizing all your yarn. i crochet mainly in the dining room in the corner, comfy chair, bright lights, youtube videos beside me on a little table. Just one project at a time upstairs. BUT downstairs I have a couple clear totes, and rubbermaid containers. AND I use an old wine rack to put the skeins of yarn in and the packages on top. I have this in a bedroom downstairs, and also in a dresser, I have the big balls like you buy at walmart into the drawers, one colour combination per drawer.
Good afternoon another another good idea about storing my yard you are terrific thank you for giving me all these good ideas and yes I'm not buying any more yard because I have enough so thank you thank you God bless you keep doing your tutorial and keep giving us new crocheters new ideas God bless you again bye-bye
My hobby stuff was getting away from me too and my husband found a shoe storage thing that hangs in your closet! This shoe storage thingy has all kinds of small compartments I put my elastic, packs of needles. empty bobbins etc...and I can shove a skein of yarn in each space where my shoes are supposed to go and let me tell you I just love it i just have to convince him to get me 2 more...!
Very pleased this popped up on my feed, I have created a tiny area to sit & crochet 🧶. All my yarns are scattered around the house in a very disorganized fashion. You have inspired me to get creative & reorganize my growing stash. I’m very excited 😊 to dazzle my eyes in color. 😊 🧶
I'm absolutely jealous of your craft room and the fact that your husband helps! I am definitely taking inspiration from this video for my own craft room. Thank you!
Hi Kim! I am so happy with our reorganization, but I think my husband might be happier LOL, I cleaned out a large area of the basement that he can now have back for his own use!
Jays I Love your tutorials, they are so easy to follow, and you explain them beautifully. I would love for you to do a tutorial on connect as you go granny squares. Thank you so much for your loving, inspiring and giving spirit.
Hi Cynthia, you can check out our "join as you go" mini granny squares video from our 2016 calendar blanket :) You can find that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r1krtsPQtR0.html
Hi. I just came across your channel. I just love your Enthusiasm. My Bestest friend ever passed away a few months ago. She LOVED to crochet, she was really talented . This has made me want to Crochet again. THANK YOU
Hi Kathy, we're so sorry about the loss of your friend, that is so upsetting. I hope you find some peace and happiness in crochet, especially since your friend did too :)
I was so happy to see your new video. I saw it come out earlier and saved it to watch later after I cleaned and organized my craft area.. LOL. I have been trying to use up my stash as well. You are a wonderful inspiration and you make me happy... Glad you had a wonderful holiday time. Challenge accepted.
I don't have a lot of yarn so I use shoe holders to store my yarn and clear storage containers. The shoe holders hang in the closet and have 10 compartments and you can fit about 2 skeins in each "cubby". For my hooks I use a pencil case.
Hi Nancy, that is a fantastic idea too! I could still use another organizer, I should look into getting one of those shoe hangers for the cupboard door :)
Thank you so much for this video. I used to feel guilty about the number of unused balls of yarn I own. But your stash is so much bigger than mine. I don't feel guilty anymore! I look forward to out both using up what we have. Thanks again!
I had the same thoughts about using up what I have but then someone comes along and is getting rid of some of their stash and it is hard to say no so I end up with more yarn. I found that using a yarn winder has helped me store and organize a lot of this yarn stash that keeps growing. Making things for charity and friends help me use it up. I created an inventory of items so when a birthday, baby shower, etc comes along I check my inventory for gifts. No yarn is wasted no matter how small it is.
Hi Janet! I must say, I am pretty dedicated to not buying anything extra this year (outside of necessities for completing a project) but I will not say "no" to gifts afterall...that would be rude!! * giggle *
I love variegated yarn too. I know it's because my great-grandma used it every day to knit corn cob mittens, scarves, and socks for all of her kids, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great and grand nieces, nephews, etc. Her extended family included all of my mom's 7 brothers and sisters and their children too. She used 6 needles to knit, 5 around and one to do the on and off. I wish I had been old enough to learn from her, but by the time I realized I wanted to do it myself, she had passed away. I love your videos and your tips and tricks, thanks for posting.
We still have some in many sizes so that the great-great and great-great-great still wear them from infant on up we pass them around the families since a lot came back to us over the years from neighbors, friends, relatives who no longer had kids. We also have some great quilts she and my Great Aunt and Grandmothers made along with embroidered flour sack dishtowels and sheets and pillowcases. Some of these treasures we've repurposed to give as Angels on Family members trees with a note saying who embroidered or knit it.
Hello Jayda, you certainly have a lot of yummy yarn! 😁 I like your challenge for this year to use all the yarn you have 😋 so I can't wait for any Crochet tutorials 😁 because I love them! 😋 Erica x
Jayda, love your videos. Since you are on a stash busting year, I think it would be awesome to do another craft room tour at the end of the year to show how much yarn stash you have used.
Jayda, some time during this past year my husband and grand daughter helped me organize my yarn stash. Like you, I realized I had more than I thought. I THOUGHT it would still all fit in my huge metal storage cabinet -- but NOOOOOoooo I had purchased too many new skeins for that! So, I said the same thing you are saying -- I will try to use what I have as long as I have what I need for the project I am making. AND, i am making the weatherghan this year and hope it will help me use up a lot of yarn. It is also fun to go "shopping" in my yarn stash for what I need at the time. Things I purchased so long ago are right there for me to pick up! I love it! We had to use some of my filing cabinets and purchased rubbermaid-type bins to put the rest in. So, I am slowly whittling it all down. I am now able to put some of the yarn that was in the rubber bins back into the huge metal cabinet. i did mine by color, too, as much as possible. I have more white than anything! Different brands and even some different sizes. But white can be used for so many things so I am sure I will get to some of that, too. OK... didn't intend to write a book, but you inspired me to send you a little note. :) I love your peppy personality and smiles. Those qualities are contagious to those around you -- even the ones on RU-vid. :)
Hi Virginia, Happy New Year! I think "shopping" in our own stash is probably what I'm getting the biggest kick out of with this project. I really had forgotten some of the things I had and some of it is so pretty I thought it was a shame that it was all tucked out of sight! This was also a good exercise for me as I THOUGHT I had a ton of white and it turns out the biggest stash of colour I have is green!! That was a surprise!
You are one lucky Lady, your Husband and family really love you to bits to help you make such a wonderful place to make such pretty creations,... yes i will get all my wool together and make all my crafts from this year from my stash. Please may you and your family have a very happy new year and happy crafting.Kimx☺
Yeah! It's so nice to see you again. Glad y'all had a great vacation. It's so hard to resist yarn. I am going to try and make projects with the current yarn in my clear plastic bins like yours.
HI Jayda thanks 4 the tour. I must get organized and seeing your re-organized craft room gave me motivation. i love crocheting and scrapbooking. i also will try your challenge of using what I have because I don't have as much yarn as you but its quite a lot. thanks and keep sharing you are such an inspiration. I love watching your videos.
Hi Jayda I just watched how you got started well my start in crocheting was similar to you my Grandma was a crocheter and she gave me one of her crochet hooks and I still have it today and she bought it for 25 cents and it is stamped with that price on the hook I treasure that hook so much cause I just love to crochet and I have done a lot of things like you not thinking how easy or hard it was I just said I am going to do this and another thing you are one that I learn from a lot Thank you . I will never put my crochet down I have made afghan's for my Mom , Brothers and wives and children and they love them the very first thing my Grandma taught me was the slant corner to corner that is what I call it I am sure that is not what it is called but it works for me. LOL And I have self taught myself to granny squares are a staple to me and I am working on a project for a friend of mine . Thanks for all you do and show us Thank you so much. Matter of fact my husband says I love crochet more than him (not) but it comes close.... Haha He even bought me a shirt that says " To crochet or not to crochet now that is a silly question."
I lived this video thank you! I had to move my craft room into tubs in a storage room since we are living in a smaller home temporarily. I like to split my yarn into weight categories and then by color. Plus a cotton yarn tub and a thread tub(smaller for me too). I have a cake tub and a variegated tub too. I guess this organization really works good for most of us.
I have been knitting and crocheting through my stash for the past 4 years. I have bought the odd skein to compliment something I have or to finish up a project, but mostly working out of my stash. I am almost through!
It’s funny how we all love to see other ppls craft room and how they store stuff lol. It’s like sharing a great recipe or something 😀. I put all left over skeins all sizes in a bag next to my crochet area and randomly pulled out one after another and made “ scraptastic hats”. Still working through it but it is fun not thinking about what colors etc. 💕
Hello Jayda! So nice to see you back and love how you share your craft room and closet!! All looks so beautiful and gives me ideas on organization. Can’t wait to see what you will be teaching this year 😊🌸. Have a great weekend!!!
Thank you for showing us your craft room! It’s so nice! I have more of a craft nook lol. Your well organized! It’s great that your hubby builds this for you!
It’s wonderful to see you again! I was hoping we’d see you today! Glad you were on vacation and hope it was wonderful! Your craft room looks fantastic! It must feel great to be all organized. I have been trying to organize my stash for the past year and still have more to do. There is never enough time it seems. Thanks for the great tips. My husband says we are overrun with yarn and he is right. I think your challenge to use up your yarn is a great idea! Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Hi Thea, Happy New Year! This reorganizing was long overdue! It was a nice way to finish off 2017 and bring in the new year, I want to be more organized this year and this was a great step towards that :)
My challenge is finding projects to use up what I have. People give me yarn and I aquire yarn from my crochet/knitting group that people bring in that they don't want. So a lot of the time I don't know what it is because the label is missing or it is so old you can't find that brand any more. So I look through RU-vid, Pinterest, etc. I have a small scale to weigh my yarn to see if I have enough for the project. Left overs can go into a scrap afghan or maybe some amigaromi figures.
Hi Jayda! Wonderful to see you back very fresh!!Nice n novel video!! Can't wait to see your new crochet creations in 2018 with your yarns at home!Good luck👍🎁
Nice to see you again & glad that you and your family had a great vacation😀 . Love the way you organised your yarn.Although I have started crocheting November 2016, I do have quiet a number of skeins that I try to use before getting more and more especially with the coupons and the discount temptations that never end Love the challenge, great resolution for 2018👍🏻
I used to use those plastic bins too, but got tired of pulling them out of the closet and not being able to see everything. At one time I put together one of those cubicle things from the plastic coated wiring systems, and could add to them as needed. Got rid of them when I moved. Now I have some plastic shelving up and organizing them again. Yes, those see-through plastic bedding containers are good as well, but I want to find smaller ones for my smaller skeins. I separated mine according to colors as well.
There are so many ways to organize our supplies, and our needs change with the amount/kind of supplies we have...I'm sure this won't be the last configuration of my stash either!
So true! I have reorganized my stuff every time I moved or rearranged rooms, etc. I thought about putting some kind of peg board up with hooks to hold my yarns cakes and stuff.
HAPPY NEW YEAR JAYDA AND STAFF!! HAPPY NEW YEAR 2018 CROCHETING!!! You have inspired me to clean out a set of kitchen cupboards on our second floor as our home at one time was a two flat. And my yarn will be out of sight when I shut the doors but easy to access when need be!!! And what use to be the kitchen upstairs will now become my craft room!!. I had previously used the tote system but opening up the cupboards makes my yarn more accessible and visible to see what I have. Thanks Much!! I agree with this comment posted earlier below.... "Never be ashamed of enjoying your yarn."
Loved your tour!! I have all my yarn in storage bins but you have given me some great idea's to put some of them "in my face" . I am also going to try and use all my yarn by the end of the end and try hard not to buy anymore!! I can't wait for more of your inspiring projects this year!!
Happy New Year, I am so glad to see you back. I have really missed you. I actually started last year going through my stash before each project and it has helped. However, a good yarn sale is really hard to pass up. I'm always inspired by your videos. I've been crocheting for over 30 years. Thank you for all the wonderful tutorials and videos you share with us.
Hi Jayda, Happy New Year to your and your family. I'm so glad you had a nice holiday, we did too, however we have sunshine down here in NZ and I now have a nice tan :-) I'm so pleased you are going to be showing us what to do with all the lovely yarn we collect. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle - I love it. Looking forward to a crafty 2018. xxx
Love your yarn stash. I have my yarn stash in a storage facility. I decided to create a craft room and bring all my yarns inside my home. I also made it as a goal to crochet all my inventory of yarn. It will be challenging but I will design new projects for the yarn.
Iv taken up half my living room with a 16 cube unit and a 4 1/2 foot black storage box all full of delicious yarn 😱 xx I have separated all the different colours all colours of the rainbow x 😍 x I'm lucky to have a very supportive partner he loves when I'm happy & excited over yarn 😍 Cuz I crochet a lot for preemie baby's for the NICU xx 😇 xx thanks for the tips Jayda xx
I am so so happy you are back!!! I missed you so much! I can't wait to see what 2018 brings to the show and I hope you are doing wonderful! Thank you so much for the tips Jayda! ❤❤❤ you are such an inspiration to me.
Love your craft room and yarn collection jayda I will try your challenge even though I have bought two new skeins of variegated yarn at the market today 😊couldn't resist ❤️ looking forward to our first project to make with you I so enjoyed making the calendar blanket last year keep doing what you do you make us all happy 😀xx
Happy New Year too!!! You have a very handy hubby that gave you colorful play place. I have already organized my bundles of yarn babies and shall now take on the challenge of using what I have for 2018 and saying "NO" to yarn in the store. May the yarn gods above give the the strength to do so. LOL!!!
Wow, a stash busting challenge, I'm all in for this. Jayda, as far as storage goes, I also use the giant "ziplock" style storage bags. Most brands are clear, or a blue-clear plastic, many having a area for identifying the contents, but you can just write on them with a Sharpe marker. FYI, for budget shoppers, they've been selling a version of these bags at the Dollar Tree stores, I've purchased some, and I'm hoping they still have them when I get back there. They're heavy duty, and the "zipper closure" stays closed when you pick them up to move, even when they're filled with heavier yarn.
Hi Linda, great suggestion! You can also compress the air out of those before sealing them making them a little flatter and easier to stack (which can come in handy for some of us LOL)
Thank you for sharing your craft room, it’s fantastic and well organized. And love all your videos, you have inspired me to go out of my comfort zone, and I thank you for that. It’s so easy to follow you.
LOVE the mason jar for scraps! I reorganized over Christmas too & was not satisfied with keeping the usable scraps on a shelf. I'll be jamming them in a half gallon mason jar this minute!
Love it! I have already challenged myself. I organized my yarn a month or so ago. I am making baby blankets to donate to a local children’s hospital at the end of the year. That’s my goal 😊 thank you for sharing!
It is wonderful to see you again Jayda ! I hope you had a great vacation time with your family and you enjoyed it! I like your crafty room . have a nice day
Love your craft room. Yes you have a lot of yarn but I have you beat by far. I store mine in storage totes. I have a walk in closet that has more that 30 totes in it. In my craft room is another 14-16 totes. I have a large tote in my living room next to where I sit and crochet. I also have yarn at my friends home. There is 8 washer/dryer size boxes full. Yep a lot. I buy very little. I have 4 ongoing project that go out to the community so LOTS of people donate yarn. And with the amount I use I never say no.
Happy Happy New Year Jayda !! Missed seeing you last few Tuesdays and last Friday. Glad all was well and that you were enjoying the holidays. Thank for this fun video. During the last couple months I have organized my living room/craft room. :) I have yarn up to my ears and beyond to the rafters lol. And lots of partially used yarns balls. I hope I can accept your challenge and use them up. Can't wait to see what you have for us next time. Happy New Year again. Take care, jlee xx
Hi Jlee! I have to say, organizing all this was enjoyable and the rewards are already showing, every time I come into this space now I'm all reved up and want to make something :)
I love it I wish I could be there in person, I would truly feel like a kid at Walt Disney (Sorry Mickey I Love Yarn and Crochet More)! Great Organization Jayda! Happy New Years To You and Your Family!
Hi Jayda! I love your videos, energy and infectious laugh. Thanks for sharing your yarn storage ideas. I've been using totes so far but have a dream of what my craft room will look like someday. Lots of shelves. Lots and lots of shelves. Lol I have been committed this year to using up more of my stash than I add. Haha we'll see how that goes. Keep up the great work!
i'm pretty new to crafting such as knitting and crochet and sewing but I have been beading and etc for awhile. Started only a year ago buying and collecting yarn and needles and patterns and fabric and old clothing and sheets because i'm a firm believer in upcycling SAVE THE EARTH, but i think I would like to take part in your challenge now I don't have an extensive collection like you but my fabric is getting up there. SOOO i'll probably only make it to half way through the year b4 i gotta buy more lol. I'll post a pic of my craft area before and a pic of it after once i'm done redecorating it and adding some much needed storage space. Thanks for the inspiration to get off my butt and start creating.
Hi Andrea, it's a great way to enjoy what we already have amassed, regardless of how we've come by it! (I'm a HUGE fan of thrift stores for finding craft supplies...you never know what you might find and you're keeping perfectly good stuff out of the landfill!)
