Oh Gayle. Every time one of my students left their blade open, I would charge them (at that time) $.25. You would probably owe you first born by now. 🤣🤣😜😜. You will only cut yourself once ~. Ok. I hope I don’t offend you, sweet journal RU-vid friend. It just makes me cringe when I see someone leave their blade open. Believe me, I’ve cut myself. Well anyway. You know I love your videos. I will help you never forget to close the rotary cutter. I heard of a lady who didn't close her cutter, went to scratch an itch on her face, and cut her face with the rotary blade.. after hearing that... I never forget to close my rotary cutter..!

Your thingamajiggy, rotary cutter, is extremely sharp. I know retracting the blade is a pain but if you ever cut yourself, it’s like a razor cut. A couple of my quilting friends learned the hard way & ended up at ER for stitches. The covers are all so pretty. Of course my favorite is the slow stitched one ❤️

Thank you for this video on fabric covers. Your slow stitch one is to die for. I am so excited you are going to show us how to arrange the S/S. I have watched you make paper collages for years they are fantastic. I try to make mine look like yours but can’t,mine looks like trash blown against a fence. I got several slow stitch kits, I don’t why because I can’t arrange them either. All the covers are gorgeous.❤️🐇

Pretty fabrics! My favorite bases are the 10x13 envelopes with cardstock inside to make them stronger. I look forward to see what kind of journals you make out of these!!

Idk why but I don’t enjoy making the covers. Love making the journals. Hate the cover process for some reason

As a quilter who uses a rotary cutter all the time, it looks to me like you might have a dull spot on your blade. It happens sometimes. (Just an observation, not expert advice 😅)

These are going to be lovely. I just bought some fabric for a bunch of journal covers a few days ago. I did 2 fabric covers a couple months ago and absolutely love the feel of them. ☺♥

Instead of batting, you could try flannel in place of it. Put the flannel where the batting would go.

Gayle I am a short person and have found a small weight (like 2 pounds) on the end of the ruler that is farthest from me helps a lot to hold everything while I cut with my rotary cutter

Hi Gail. Good morning! I don’t think you sewed that chenille one. Simply because of the way the zig zag corners appear to be sewn. They don’t have the Gayle’s special turns that Some of us don’t have enough coordination to do. Lol

I cringe everytime you or anyone else uses the rotary cutter. I DID cut the tip of my finger off...half way thru my fingernail. Never felt it....the emergency room Dr couldn't sew it, so he glued it back together...now my finger tip looks like a butt crack...but that is ok....I havent picked up a rotary cutter since and that was 3 years ago

The cover is stunning!

For safety’s sake: I am the worlds worst for retracting my cutter blade. I found one that when you squeeze it to cut, the blade comes out and when you let go the blade retracts automatically. Not expensive; worth getting.

Good Morning Gayle! I have a silly question. Do you slow stitch your entire cover together, or is there regular sewing first to add peices to each other and then slow stitch around? Sorry. Just not sure. I bought my first sewing machine when I started following you. I am very much a beginner sewer. Thank You

I tend to over think and over complicate journal making and always gravitate to hard cover, 3 to 5 signature, etc. for some reason. Need to give myself a good talking to. Mix it up a little! By the time I had cut a whole quilt out, pushing the button on the cutter to close it became second nature. It really has to become something you don’t even think about. I’m very glad that you are trying to remember because those rotary cutters are wicked tools. Your covers are so pretty. Love the slow stitch one! Hugs ❤
