Nels Grumley went to work for the Bear Bow company in 1938. Not sure when he crafted the first Deerslayer, but each bow crafted by him or one of his bowers, was crafted by hand. This video will show my progress to date. My intention is to copy an original Deerslayer. Obviously it won’t be an exact copy, but I think it’ll be close. Forrest Shattuck ‪@goldenwoodbows1187‬

Never apologize for using power tools. I’m 57 and I’ve made bows with hand tools and that was much easier at 37. Like your content. Thanks!

How thick were your limbs when you heated them up to bend?

@@goldenwoodbows1187 thank you, I might be bending mine a little to thick. I get a few splinters on occasion. I usually bend mine around 1/2”

Are you measuring from the edge or middle of the limb?

Hey brother it’s 2024. We can build primitive bows with modern tools youras old is my dad or a bit older. I would expect you to do no different. Make the bow with any means necessary the easier the better just imagine if you could just think about it and it happened heck with those guys they probably never made one bow I break a lot made 50 since Christmas about 12 real good ones and I still have some hatchet work and draw knife left in me but I like my belt sander and I’m getting a bandsaw right directly
