nice.. I think you'll enjoy that machine. I had one similar but a 4 horse and only tined one way.. got it in 87 and finally fell apart 5 yrs ago.. mine and other people's gardens,flower beds, used it to redo driveway when we moved here, and prepared my beds for sidewalks when I poured concrete

that thing really does a good job in that new ground, and I think that will be a good garden spot since it's just been grass for a real long time. lol, I know what you mean about not wanting to drag it back to the shop;, that would be real work.. I think if it were me I would try to rebend the spring and see what happens since it is so easy to get to.. happy gardening.

Couldn't help but notice in this video that you were running the tiller with the choke halfway on in this video. I have the same tiller and always had to do that to get it to quit pulsing. I ended up removing the bottom jet that holds the fuel bowl on and cleaning the holes which still didn't eliminate it. Still starving for fuel so I used an .039 drill bit and enlarging the center jet to that size. Now it runs smooth with the choke all the way off and the throttle wide open.

You've done nothing with so little, for so long, that you can do anything with nothing! Tufdog 2016! Hey Tufdog! You're right no one has just an operators manual (video) for these larger rear tine tillers. Thanks for putting this up. I would add that my Tiller which is a dual rear tine tiller also can bring up a lot of rocks. That tiller unearths it but you got to hang on to it so that it doesn't flip over sideways. Once you remove all of the rocks from the ground and from in between the tines this tiller its smooth sailing after that and a pleasure to use.

Looks like she works great! Do the tines slip at all? Mine does if I try to till too deep on really hard ground.
@TufdogsPlace
@TufdogsPlace 8 лет назад
+paisteboy I'm Not sure that they're designed to slip or not. I did find that one side had sheared off a clevis pin. So it was working intermittently through the whole time of use. It seemed as if it would just keep on tilling no matter what it hit.. I wonder if that's your belt slipping (Maybe, IDK) Thanks for checking it out & commenting.
@Paisteboy
@Paisteboy 8 лет назад
It's definitely is my belt slipping. Mine will take off like a rocket if I don't till hard ground in small increments. I was just would if your had the same design or if it had chain drive?
@TufdogsPlace
@TufdogsPlace 8 лет назад
As best I can tell it has a belt drive only. But I'm not certain about that. I don't think I hit anything solid enough to make it slip either.

short piece annealed wire looped onto tensioner then wound into spring 4-5 coils back works too, had to fix one quick years ago.. was on there for years.. getting one today, bud called from rummage sale, says one there like new 250, said load it up if working order.. My old front tine Toro from early 70s tiller caught on fire last year due to leaking gas cap.. pro tip, do not toss whatever you have laying on ground to smother fire, section of outdoor carpet really lights up..lol mine burned 5 minutes, I hid behind garage waiting for it to blow, it didn't, went up to tiller, pulled melting carpet off and tossed on some water I found in bucket behind garage, fire went out.. air cleaner 1 hose and some paint were only casualties, she runs, but needs work so getting another and rummage saling this one...

Use the depth guage. 1st cut should be a couple inches deep. Then raise the gauge a couple holes and go over again until it loosens up the soil. Won't be bucking and jumping so much. Really biting off more than it can chew on your fist attempt. lower your handle bars also so your not reaching way up. Should be able to walk beside the machine one handed. Easy

My first experience with rear tine tiller was a Honda, it wanted to run away, I don’t think it was counter rotating?
@TufdogsPlace
@TufdogsPlace Год назад
The tires on these turn under power also, it may have not been digging as fast as it was trying to move forward. . But it could be it was rotating wrong, but I'm not sure about that.

@TufdogsPlace

Sounds like the linkage is un-attached , or it may be a bad belt. Best I can say is investigate til you find the issue. Take photos of everything if you're not sure. so you can see how to put it back together. Best luck to you..

@TufdogsPlace

Have you looked at them ? Are they bent ? That is the only thing I can think may be wrong . Check your pins too, make sure one isn't sheared off. They attach the tines to the driven shaft.

Tuf Dog, I just bought the same machine used. Tried it for the first time and have been shearing tine shear bolts left and right. I have the ground stake up so it’s not digging in hard. But for the life of me, I can’t go 20 feet without shearing the shear pin. Anyone have any suggestions? I tried multiple shear pins and also a grade 5 bolt with the same result. Do the times have to be pointed a certain direction? I don’t think they are swapped reversely? It’s my first rear tine machine. But you used it pretty hard that first pass and your bolts stayed solid. I need some suggestions? Because I’m about to sell it.
@jeffvining6675
@jeffvining6675 4 года назад
And I’m tilling in a forward direction (far left mode). Not in reverse. It’s been super frustrating.
@TufdogsPlace
@TufdogsPlace 4 года назад
@@jeffvining6675 Jeff, I really don't know what to tell you. Those shear pins are usually soft aluminum I believe, but if you sheared a grade 5 bolt That's some serious restriction. I would suggest trying to go back through somewhere you already tilled and see if it works like it should. Could be your ground is just really hard packed. As long as all the tines are facing the same direction you should be fine. Other than that,... IDK. Best luck to you, let me know how it goes...
