Great job getting the tiller at that price. We have a craftsman that we have had for probably 8 or ten years, maybe more. I use my small tiller on my raised beds if they need it as the big tiller just doesn't work. To powerful.
@@lazypondfarm I'm planning on getting one. I live in the suburbs, and, now is the time to convert my backyard into a massive garden. And, I may be able to make money by helping others to break through their sod and prep a garden. I have done it by hand before, and, it is a most difficult task...how does that deal with small roots, like the offshoot type that are less than an inch?
It cuts small roots fairly well... too many and they will get wrapped in the tines. My cousin used mine twice for jobs with his business and it did great for him
@@lazypondfarm thanks! I'm in the chicago suburbs, and, I'm thinkning that I could charge about $0.25/square foot for garden prep from virgin, never-tilled ground. IMO, they would be very pleased in most cases, given the tedious labor involved per square foot of compacted, sodded, grassy soil...your thoughts? Would you mind sharing how his price structure is, that is, if you do know it?
@@sebastionhawk5565 I think most folks around here would charge more than that but prices would definitely be a regional thing. I know what people charge to cut grass between our county and the next big city over is TRIPLE!
Nice shiny Ferrari my man! If it starts first pull it's a keeper and great price! My biggest dislike of the unit is the handlebar. If your not paying attention and you hit a rock....incoming uppercut to your chin! L#3 fw Happy Monday and hope all is well!
Thanks GOAT! The handlebar issue is something to consider. Its bouncing around a time or two resulted in accidentally hitting the kill switch. It did do a great job on the garden though!
The rear plate on mine fell off first time I used it, the welds were pretty much non existent. Wish I had a welder. 😡🤔 it worked really well other than that, not missing my Troy built at all.
This was a great video and helpful. I spent $1115 on a new Troy-Built unit but the transmission failed in about the first hour of use. I returned it for a full refund. . I picked up a Craftsman similar to this (very used) for $100 and it needed a bit of work. Your video tipped me off on why it wouldn't self-propel; the pins to lock the wheels into the drive axles were in 'free-wheel' mode. It works great now that I've pinned them to the drive axles. The only issue is it leaking a bit of drive gear oil from the Transmission. (Which is an easy fix.)
We bought the same tiller last year. Wife hates it She says it has a mind of it's own. I told Her it was a good tiller same as troy built. Now after 46 year's of marriage She's threatening to divorce Me over this thing. Garden produced very good last year. I tell Her it could be the tiller. So it's going to be a waiting game this year. It did start on first pull this year. I will give it that but I also put a fuel shut off on it last year when it was still in the crate. It didn't rust over winter so I will give it that also. This year I see there 100 over last year 799. Well I got that going for Me. They mtd thinks it's even worth more then last year.
@@lazypondfarm I never said I don't like it. I get along with it ok. But the Wife sure don't and She paid for it mostly She had Her heart set on an earthquake but Menards was sold out. She called Lowe's and they had this one, and only this one. I have a tiller on the garden tractor but in spring it can get a bit dicky in the spring hard ground. Last year after I went through the garden and broke it up with the new one. She was able to buzz right through with garden tractor tiller and straight it out without any problems. Today I used craftsman tiller to work up a bit to plant peas and it did ok. But it was Fighting Her and I got the EYE again. Think I'm going to have to buy Her out on it. And keep Her away from it. She loves the 1970 garden tractor tiller so She may have to be the operator of that this year going forward.
Just bought one of these. My previous craftsman inherited to me is not counter rotating. When I would hit a decent tree root it would jump forward. What happens with this one when you hit a root?
@@lazypondfarm Okay because it seemed like you were having to lean way over low while using this one .... Not for me on that basis ~! Thanks for the reply ~! Kit
