Well done! I was hoping you would stay with it. Sometimes you get something that you just don't want to walk away from, even when your gut says it'll never work. Perseverance at its best. Thanks for including us throughout the entire process. 😃👍
My recommendation is to get your grinding wafer wheel and slice off the sides Where the lip protrudes above the surface of the lift. By the way that's an absolutely fantastic idea to have an outdoor lift. Another recommendation is to take it to the next level and pour yourself a concrete pad under the outdoor lift. And then get yourself one of those portable garage roofs that are cheap and put it overhead so you can work outside in the summer and out of the sun. Fantastic repair and keep up the great work!!! 👍👍👍
Thank you! Overall the outdoor lift was a successful endeavor I like your idea with removing the outer lip on the sides and making a nice shaded area to work in 😎👍🏻
I’ll watch later, but now I know what to get next - an outside lift!!! Why the hell didn’t I already think of this?!!! I’ve seen those jacks on Marketplace but never thought they would be useful for me. What was I thinking - or not! Now I need a couple more half ton electric winches off FreeCycle so I can get stuff to the jack!
Hi there, a nice trick to try on those rusted bolts is to Take a punch and a hammer and hit the head a few times. that vibration will sometimes help to separate the threads before you start to turn the head. especially in aluminum threads.
Or just bang it with a hammer! Shoulda done that yesterday before I twisted off the head on the muffler bolt on a tiller. Still trying to drill that sucker out today.
I've been turning wrenches for 40+ yrs, have never worn gloves!! Sorry don't see the reasoning behind it, if your going to be a mechanic, expect dirty hands!!! Nothing against you, or anyone that wears them, just my feelings.
No trust me I get it. I don’t always wear gloves either, however I’ve lost many friends in the field to skin cancer from years of automotive chemical exposure. There’s also a history of cancer in my family and now that I have a family and kids of my own, I try to do everything I can whenever possible to prevent issues down the road. In other words best case scenario for me is that you’re right and nothing will happen to me 👍🏻
Yeah, well, I’ve always hated getting dirty hands from working on my cars over the years, so I’m really glad they came up with nitrile and other gloves. The other issue for me now is that I’m juggling two occupations, the other being a home baker and selling to the public, so I can’t do that and have dirty hands. The other thing is, I always think, “You touch your wife with THOSE hands?” 😉
Started full time at 18 and mechanic work until 68 and small engine repair now and only ware gloves during outside work in winter but never once in shop😊😊😊
Who cares about the dirt. It's that stench from old gas. I also have never worn gloves but if it can keep the old gas stench out of my skin I might try some lol
