2000 I got mine been using it 19 years and its seen a lot of use on 10 bikes , I wait till I have the bike up and the lock is set before I tie it down , a centered bike will not fall off , but if you start turning bolts you want it tied down . Great lift for tire brakes .

Hi Dennis, greetings from Seven Hills, NSW, Australia, thank you so much for your easy to follow and very helpful video, I purchased a very similar but unnamed Motorcycle/ATV lift/jack from eBay, but I found the assembly instructions difficult to follow, so I checked on RU-vid and thankfully found your video, and although there were some little differences between your model and the one I had bought, with your very helpful video I was able to assemble my Motorcycle/ATV lift/jack, I haven't used it yet, but I'm more confident after watching your video that it will be ok to use because of your helpful instructions and safety advice, thanks again and much appreciated. 👍 😃 I do hope that you and all your family have coped well with all the issues caused by the Coronavirus epidemic!

@@dwcoffey... Isn't it a good feeling Dennis when people can be helpful and friendly in this world, there are so many negative things that can happen in our everyday lives, and sometimes it is caused by other people being selfish and inconsiderate, like road rage which seems to be on the increase everywhere, which could be resolved in most cases by keeping calm and just making sure that you are safe, allowing that sometimes we all can make silly mistakes, but we do live in an imperfect world, unfortunately, and there are some people who seem to get some kind of pleasure out of making life more difficult for others. I'm just getting back into motorcycles at 71 years old after a 30-year break, bought a 2001 BMW R 1100 S six weeks ago which was most probably a bit ambitious as the last bike I owned was a Yamaha 400 XS, have already dropped it once when I stalled the BMW while leaving a service station and somehow lost my balance and after a 30-second struggle eventually went down with it, fortunately, only a few scratches to the bike and a sore stretched tendon on my left hand, the worst part is that I have lost a little confidence and worry about dropping it again, hopefully though with that experience behind me it won't happen again. 🤞 😃 Take care and happy biking Dennis.
@dwcoffey
@dwcoffey 3 года назад
So true Alan. If people could only be as forgiving and kind to each other as they are to themselves, we'd all be better off. Good for you getting back on a bike after a few years' break. No worries though, you'll soon get your confidence back. The drop was only a bump in the road. Be safe and thank you again sir!!

I have this exact motorcycle jack. I got it for Christmas about 15 years ago. I have several different motorcycle lifts/jacks/stands. I never use this one. I have tried to use it. It is too unstable. You have to jack up the bike from one side or the other, and you have to strap the motorcycle to the stand to stabilize it. It’s got two flat lifting points, and it’s pretty rare that you can get both of them under the frame. Exhaust pipes are usually in the way. Or belly pan fairings, or the engine hangs down between the lower frame tubes. if you are able to get this stand under your bike and stabilize it. The jacking mechanism is going to be in your way on one side or the other. So you have to position it on the side of the motorcycle you are not going to be working on. once you get your motorcycle in the air if you are using the stand just to change the oil, many times it blocks access to the drain plug or access to removing the oil filter. it’s a two-man job to lift a motorcycle with a stand. One guy to hold the bike, one guy to work the stand, a third guy would be helpful to look under the bike while one guy is working the jack.. I have had one of these stands for the past 15 years. It sits against the wall standing up in the corner of my garage. I would sell it for 20 bucks. I’ve tried to use it about 10 times, I usually ended up using something else. This stand is great for quads, or for lifting your riding lawnmower, but the fact that it’s on casters, it’s just unstable

The only thing I never liked about these jacks is how the weight center shifts when you remove a wheel. The strap does help though. But due caution is necessary. I always anticipated placement of the lift for what I was going to remove, and never had a mishap thankfully. Also, you need a smooth concrete floor to move it around. I also like the stabilizing posts that are built in.

I've had this same jack for about 15 years now but when lowing my VTX, it bounces up and down while being lowered. It never use to do that before so it's time to drain the old bottle jack fluid and put in some fresh stuff in. Like anything else, they just need periodic maintenance and genuine TLC. You'll get years of service out of your jack, great buy. UPDATE: I added a fine adjustable pedal stop and now my bike lowers perfectly.

@tanktankerson1042
@tanktankerson1042 2 года назад
@@robertcorbin5667 OK, this should help, I use a 2 inch to 2 1/2 inch block of rubber, you can use wood if it's easier, and put it under the kickstand which raises the bike up on the low side then the jack just slides right under the bike. You will see that even with that block of material, the bike is still leaning enough that you don't have to worry about it falling over the other way. Check it out, you'll see what I mean. My VTX is a 1300S so I'm not sure if it is the same as say, a 1300C for example as far as the kickstand goes.

@dwcoffey
@dwcoffey 2 года назад
Hi Ariels, it kinda depends on your bike and where you have to place it on your lift. I usually will put one across the frame between the seat and the gas tank and then another across the back sissy bar. Since most of the weight is offset to the front of a cruiser, I like to have a strap on the back to prevent forward tipping. If I didn't have a sissy bar on the back, I'd go behind the front seat with the 2nd strap

Thank you for watching! It probably depends entirely on the bike. Mine only weights 500 or so pounds and also sits firmly on the lift pads. So I don't have any stability issues. For heavier bikes, you may want to put more straps on it. I don't have any issues at all putting mine on the lift with one strap.

Thanks for watching, Biagino. On the side of the bottle jack opposite the foot pedal, near the top, is a bolt head. It should have a phillips screw slot made into it. You will have to push the spring to the side to see it. Tip the entire jack up on it's side so this bolt is faciign upward. Put some rags on the floor under the bottle jack as it may leak when you remove the bolt. Remove that bolt and add jack oil or hydraulic fluid into that hole until full.

Hi Biagino, I filmed this video in my garage with the door open. We have lots of birds in my area, so they sing all the time. My camera recorded the birds singing while I made this video.

I think it will for some, but you'd need to measure the flat portion of the frame on your bike to know if it would straddle the pads ok. If it's too close, I wouldn't risk it.

@@dwcoffey My car rides low (ford fiesta) I think I would have to put my car on ramps to remove the engine mounts if I had this lift, I just need to pull it forward to get the catelitic converter on and pull the old one out, so I just need a few inches. Thanks for the demonstration, it looks sturdy enough at a good price...

hey Dennis i went out and brought the jack after watching how easy you put it together. i had no problems in putting it together and the jack worked. the problem that i have is that i used it for my goldwing and the descent to me was too fast and the bike came down hard. luckly it was not up to high. have you had any problem like that. if so what did u do to fix the issue.
@dwcoffey
@dwcoffey 8 лет назад
Hi John, It does let down real quick if you're not careful, for sure. I just let it down very very gently so it doesn't slam down.
@tomboyd224
@tomboyd224 7 лет назад
I had mine for about a year. I couldn't find a way to finesse that descent pedal. The Goldwing either dropped like a rock or it didn't move at all. Not good when working solo. IMHO, Sears needed to use a different bottle jack - one with the more standard screw-in type descent valve. It's possible that such a jack could be bolted in to the frame, but I donated the jack as it was to the local motorcycle safety program - we found it works much better with the lighter training bikes.

mine comes down slow if I only press the foot pedal 1/2 inch , it will drop like a rock if I push it all the way down . my FLT was 850 dry , same with my Roadking , Sportster 600 # and FXST 650 # had a 1500 Goldwing on it no trouble at all , did the old man's beakes I got my lift in 2000 might have a different bottle jack . 19 year of hard labor and not had no trouble

Dennis Coffey I was going out to buy this lift based on this review but I reexamined my bike for clearance and it appears my oil pan is below the frame. '04 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1500 Fi. Will have to check the Nomad forums and see what alternatives are available.
@dwcoffey
@dwcoffey 7 лет назад
I'm not sure if this will help, but maybe this will help to determine if this lift will work with your motorcycle: There is 9" clear space between the lift pads on the Craftsman lift. I'm not familiar with the Kawasaki, but hopefully that will help you determine whether or not there is enough space to clear your oil pan and still have enough frame to lift it.
@raf3188
@raf3188 7 лет назад
I've used a similar jack (Mastercraft by Canadian Tire) on my 2001 Nomad and it works well. It looks like the exact same jack with a different label. The tabs on the rear of the frame will punch through the rubbers on the lift - found that out right after the first time I used it. There's not much room but a thin piece of plywood might stop that. Steel on steel would be too slippery. The front lift pad almost lines up with the groove in the front of the pan, but not quite, and the front tire will lift about 6-8 inches before the back tire comes off the ground. Taking the saddlebags off first helps a bit. A piece of 1/2 x 1 inch plywood to fill the groove gives the lift pad better footing but it still lifts higher on the front.

Hey! It's doing just fine. I don't use it a lot, but have probably used it a dozen times or so. No problems with wear or anything like that. My only issue with it is that you have to be careful letting the bike down because it will go down really fast. Thank you for watching!

@dwcoffey

Thanks for watching, Liam! It will depend on the bike's frame, but I'd say no to most sport bikes. The weight would be no problem, but I think the distance between the lift pads is too wide for most sport bike frames to rest well on this lift.

Thanks for watching! You do have to be careful...the jack has a very low center of gravity, but if yiou don't strap the bike down, it can definitely fall off the jack. If you leaned really heavy on the bike, even with it strapped down, you could probably knock it over.
