Katy, there are so many genius ideas, tips, and tricks in your video, I can't stand it. Thank YOU so much! I can't wait for our collaboration next month.
thank you for all your tips, love what you do with the inks and tools you have, it shows that you do not have to have the expensive inks or blowing tools to get alcohol ink art to look great
Love these tips! Especially the lazy susan, that's both genius and dangerous lol. I'd probably want to spin that thing as fast as I could just to see the effect. Those panels are just gorgeous!
GREAT tips!!!! I love the idea of a condiment bottle for a blower, and the tiny bottle of alcohol instead of a bigger squirter. your panels came out wonderful!
Amazing backgrounds, Katy 😍! I love the soft and dreamy look! Great tips and great collab with Terra, can't wait to see what you are coming up with next month 💕
I've found that if I take a picture of the piece I'm working on, I tend to see it differently. It's like the difference between looking at yourself in the mirror vs. in a photograph. 😘
Great tips!! I’m going to have to get out my cake decorating turntable and try this! And I had no idea you could make your own alcohol inks using sharpies! Thanks for sharing!
Well, Jeesh, where were you when I got my alcohol inks a couple weeks ago! These are fantastic tips. I love all the tips. I think i"m raiding my kitchen cabinets for a condiment bottle! and I'm going to look for a lazy susan. And I love this collab idea you two are doing!
Thanks Don!! This was done on Yupo paper which is essentially plastic. You could also use a heavyweight Vellum (think 30-48 lb weight) You could also use acetate. For best results and to get the airy thin look, you just want to use a slick coated surface so the alcohol will move easier. So if your multi media paper has a coating on it, give it a try and please do share with me if you have success with it. I appreciate your comment and thanks for watching!! Katy❤️
Yeah I’ve been looking up RU-vid videos trying to figure out what I can do but like I need the paper anything alcohol need a mat to put underneath I really want is it using his ink and I want I can’t buy anywhere that has it reasonable price I would totally just buy it from Michael’s but there’s no good coupons in Amazon you know it’s a pain. And hobby lobby you can’t buy online pick up in the store or do a drive up order and a lot of what they had on sale on the website they didn’t have half of those ink in the store. Yeah couple weeks ago they had a sale and a lot of his ink was even in stock. So my hobby lobby as you get out of a lot of his stuff so it’s more like you buy that at Michael’s but because of the pandemic which is pretty much over Michael’s doesn’t do anything other than like maybe a 25% off which is it much of anything
Hello again!! In my last post I mention another brand of alcohol inks Pinata, but for paper Grafix Dura-Bright is what I use and is available at amazon as well. Hope this is helpful! I appreciate you! ❤️
So I want to use alcohol ink don’t have any yet I actually got a Tim Holtz alcohol ink air blower. Because my birthday which was the end of last month one of my friends gave me an Amazon gift card so I bought that and then I also bought his alcohol ink card stock. 4 1/4 in x 5 1/2. It’s gloss it comes with 20. But I kind a wanna make kind of a combination of postcards cards. So I love making cards mostly Christmas time sometimes I’ll make them for birthdays that’s mostly Christmas time so I kind of wanna big combineCards with postcards. Front and then use the back it’s like right on and stuff but I don’t know if the card that I got is going to be good like the back is going to be good to write on. People tell me that was a bad idea paper but this was the size that I wanted to work with alcohol ink this was gonna be the best bet at the time I bought it I do make cards. But then I got like a burnt out and I haven’t made an actual cards in a couple of years I want to say it’s been like a year maybe two years I just didn’t have the desire that makes sense. And for the last like six months to a year I’ve been wanting to play around alcohol inks and like air blower thanks gift card to Amazon I’m like OK you know what I’m gonna buy things I need but it’s so pricey on Amazon and half the stuff I want to Michael’s which is the closest crafting store besides hobby lobby hobby lobby I can’t buy stuff online and do a drive up. Michaels I can’t and his products half Michaels has only had a 20 or 25% off coupon. I didn’t realize his products Tim Holtz his products I love them but they are overpriced on Amazon and Michaels. So if you know any other page paper or card stock whatever I need to make my version of a postcard flash card look more like a postcard but I may use it like cards because I got burnt out of making cards. So how do you make cool designs on the front with alcohol ink but I don’t know if I got the right paper because I also need the bag to write on. Different colored paper inside and it was a pain because half the time and it just became a point it’s costly. I only bought the stuff to make cards when it was on sale coupons clearance sale like I never paid full price but like his products don’t often on sale and like lately hobby lobby has them on sale but online and have it shipped would be too much money and half the time I go to my locker and they don’t have what I need from him but I can get online but it would cost a lot of money to have it shipped. So I wanted to buy her stuff on Amazon because the Amazon his products are expensive. And then I’m getting underneath when I do the alcohol so that I don’t get the alcohol ink on the table and his whatever it’s called it’s way too expensive so I might just get something cheaper but I’ll know what to get at the table so I don’t spill everywhere it’s a lot of stuff I need. So technically it with my friends gift card I only got Tim Holtz alcohol ink card stock it’s glossy card stock and it may not even be what I need and then the air blower that’s it. I want to buy his brand alcohol ink but it’s Ridiculous and I would go with a cheaper brand or I can maybe get a container comes with more of them for a lot less but I don’t know with another brand besides his that actually good . But yeah for the card stock or paper whatever you think I should use for the alcohol ink to turn into like a little like postcard flashcards really cute postcard thing that’s a cool design with the alcohol with something better like a better kind of paper please let me know it does not have to be this brand new brand I just don’t know what paper is good for using alcohol ink on the front and it’s good on the back to right on that’s what I’m having a trouble with because what I got more and more people are telling me that’s not a good idea it had mixed reviews on Amazon
Hey there and thanks for your questions. First you can use the 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 cardstock as a postcard, actually a postcard is 3 1/2 x 5 but can be as big as 4 1/4 x 6 according to the post office. As far as the back side for writing, just use a permanent marker like a sharpie marker. Second, your alcohol inks…I know they are expensive. I found the best selection in store at Michaels and unfortunately they have reduced their coupons however, at amazon you could look for the Pinata color alcohol inks made by Jacquard amazon has a 9 piece set for 22 dollars and that includes shipping. I hope you found this helpful. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Happy Crafting!! ❤️
podpopper’s place Yes, 91% or 99 % is best. 70% has too much water in my opinion. You can also buy blending solution from either Pinata brand or Ranger as well, I find the rubbing alcohol to work just as well and more cost effective...well maybe not right now, unless you have some already 😊 Pinata brand alcohol inks are very good and Marabu brand has also come out with some cool ones as well. Of course, the Tim Holtz are pretty popular and known by most. You can use Vellum, Yupo Paper and the Grafix Dura-Bright which is what I used in the video. I picked that up at hobby lobby for 13$. Hope this helps. Let me know! ❤️ Katy
