Dick Wolf's Law & Order is the second longest-running drama series in the history of television. The series premiered in 1990 and ran 20 seasons before returning in 2022. Law & Order's unique bifurcated format of police procedural and legal drama is known for its ripped-from-the-headline stories. Sam Waterston, Anthony Anderson, Jeffrey Donovan, Camryn Manheim, Hugh Dancy and Odelya Halevi star.
Law & Order is produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

I understand that Olivia was heartbroken over Elliot’s departure from SVU as we all were. But the person heartbroken over the most about it besides Liv was Cragen. For years, Cragen had Elliot under his wing and even said Elliot was like a son. Cragen was pushing as hard as he could to make sure Elliot came back but he never did. To see Elliot with Cragen after all those years of being apart feels like another closure the fans could’ve used.

Cragen absolutely used the right phrase to help Elliott manage his feelings about his father and the Combat Cross medal. An Act of Contrition is exactly what I think his father was trying to say. Be a better man than me. I wouldn’t be surprised if that isn’t why his father was so horrible to them at home and drank so heavily. To cope with the pain of the things he saw and had to do on the job. He didn’t know how to be a better man and didn’t know how to tell Elliott and his children to be better than him. Different time and way of thinking sadly. Maybe Elliott can start making peace with that part of his past too.
@tammylewis2408
@tammylewis2408 2 года назад
Agree. One has to remember in the 50s 60s 70s and even into the 80s, PTSD was not talked about, especially in law enforcement; it took Vietnam veterans to open dialogue about the subject. Stabler's father, like many at the time, didn't have the support that would have helped him and his family. Law enforcement has had the highest rates of substance abuse, domestic violence, and suicides because of what they experienced in their jobs day in and day out. Stabler's father experienced those, and took it out on his family, especially Stabler's mother and Stabler himself. Stabler's mother was diagnosed as bipolar, but I also believed she may had had postpartum depression/psychosis as well (it definitely would be understandable if it was revealed that she developed postpartum after having Stabler). That and the domestic abuse may have triggered her illness. Not only that, his father came from a generation where men didn't show their feelings; they would have been perceived as wimpy, cowardly, and other negative connotations. The culture of law enforcement exacerbated it; he had to be tough on the job, but was unable to convey those feelings to his family, drinking and abusing his family was a way to convey those feelings. Mrs. Stabler left and Stabler was forced to grow up and protect his siblings from their father's abuse. Cragen knows all too well what the negative side of law enforcement does to a good person; he has been a father figure to Benson and Stabler, and helping them to navigate the rough waters. But there's one person who would understand what Stabler has gone thru and that is Benson.

@@tammylewis2408 and sadly, it’s still not talked about/acknowledged nearly enough. One thing that stands out- Cragen doesn’t badmouth Stabler’s dad. Doesn’t speak ill of him at all- because he knows how Elliot felt about him, and because no matter what, Joe was his father. He simply told Elliot what he should already know-his dad was a tough man doing a tough job, faced with hard decisions . He made a decision to protect his partner. Whether right or wrong, that’s what he did because he was loyal to his partner and that loyalty was paramount in a job where life or death may depend on that partner- and the times sure sounded like it did. How many times did Stabler bend rules for Benson? For that matter, how many times did Cragen do it for Stabler, for them all? You do the best you can, the best you know, by the best lights you have at the time. There are times you’re right, times you’re wrong. But until you’re in that moment, all you can do is think you’ll do this-when you may wind up doing that

Not much different than the group of old army ncos like my dad and his friends back in the day when they talk about one of the people they served with I remember when I was a kid I used to sit around and listen to their stories and there was a point where they would be talking and all of a sudden they I'd see one of them give my dad a look.

Christopher Meloni was born to play Stabler. With proper writing, I swear they could turn him into a full blown movie, if not franchise.
@Michael-cf9cj
@Michael-cf9cj Год назад
Honestly, I'd rather Olivia had left the show and Stabler remained as the core. Oh, they did a fine job of having him melt down and the story worked well, but Christopher Meloni is so much a better actor than Mariska Hargitay. But no, the show was more about her than him and so it made sense.

Cragen is right- you do the best you can by the best lights you have at the time. It can be very easy to judge a person or situation from the distance of time- truth is no one knows what they would do if they were in that position, in that moment.

Anybody else hate this new Law and order? Doesn't really make sense, Wife of 20 something years is murdered and starts a relationship a month later, why? finds out who killed his wife and still has feelings for her? The mayor listens to the guy who was in cahoots with the Organized mobs over his police force? And if theres a plot hole, the "hackers" have a way to solve every problem through sci fi hacks and browsing social media....
@xiamei704
@xiamei704 2 года назад
The actress that played Kathy is retired from acting so she wasn't going to be a part of the new show. I think the show was always going to start with some kind of tragedy. It's a serialized l&o so it's definitely a different kind of l&o. Elliot doesn't actually have a relationship with Angela. They just bonded in their grief and developed feelings for each other. Elliot has PTSD because he saw Kathy get bombed and he's really screwed up emotionally over it. He gravitated to her because it was a lot easier for him to talk to her instead of Olivia. As their relationship is massively complicated, he's in love with her and screwed things up between them by leaving. The mayor guy listened to Richard because he blames Elliot for what happened to his wife. He's grief stricken and Richard is a charming snake that's really good at talking people into things. I'll admit that the hacking is a cheat... That's tv logic for you.

Because of that episode called Scorched Earth, I was crushed by Elliot leaving. Never wanted to see that episode after the first time. But this scene was epic here. It seemed Cragen was glad that Elliot returned to the NYPD. The next crossover they need to have needs to be all three Law & Order series and all three Chicago series. That would be a masterpiece for the ages!

Cragan is the strongest one of them all. Sees through all the lies but also realises good people do silly things in fear and desperation. Keeps it very simple but only convicts the ones truly guilty. A real copper. Doesn't miss use his power ever and respects the oath he took and thats why he's been in power so long.
