Senior Technical Editor Tom Marvin gives the low down on Crankbrothers new Synthesis Carbon Wheels, which are claimed to be the first 'tuned carbon wheelset'.
"Tuned" to me means a pro wheel builder determining a rider's weight and riding style, then adjusting the spoke style, gauge and tension... assuming the rider is locked into a rim choice.
@@officialclownbusiness7788 English bikes made in the 1930's had fewer spokes up front than in the rear. Usually 40 out back and 32 out front. It's not even that clever for back then, just obvious given that rear wheels take a bigger beating.
World first "Tuned" carbon wheel and they are heavier than aluminum wheels! NOT really DUKE release 6Ters this summer with different rims front and rear (internal, high) with a special carbon layup to be compliant on vertical impact. And the best they weight 1600gr. for a pair 29" enduro wheelset.
Harry 8642 No, you just need good carbon. It depends on the weave and the actual fibres. So many Germany and Italian companies are using the best fibres and weaving them to make carbon that is stronger than the strongest aluminium or titanium components.
It means we the consumers are stupid for buying good alloy wheels and not expensive carbon wheels that will not bring any life changing difference in you biking experience. Except a difference between ours and theirs bank account
Alan Connolly I’m wondering who will make the 1st aftermarket XTR bee generator ... like on new BMW M series where they play the noise through the stereo after the turbo killed the V8 grunt ? Some high tech playing card that moves away when you pedal and makes a sound when you freewheel and only add 300g to the hub?
