Rev limiting a boosted engine is tricky. Cutting fuel and ignition can be disastrous as making a bomb is easily the result. I'd just pull a lot of timing @ the RPM where safety becomes an issue. So great to watch this R&D without a huge budget. Thanks for sharing this.

an old English ww2 mechanic was telling me about clearances. their spitfires were on the minimum they were chasing perfection and they were perfect until oil pressure dropped or cooling fluid disappeared. this machinic got to work on some American fighters. he soon noticed the clearances were a lot greater. the American mechanics explained the extra gap was for extra expansion if there was no coolant or lack of oil. to help give them that little bit extra time. maybe just have it a little bit loose but not sloppy until you have everything sorted out then tighten up the gaps when it's race day. keep up the good work, the dream is getting closer

When the dyno is running correctly it needs to be able to hold 20k for at least 5 seconds, better still 10 without blowing it's self apart! If this was going to be used at Bonneville, it would have to hold maximum revs for around 30 seconds, that's a long time.

Always been a Tinker guy and mechanic and electronics geek! People call me MacGyver alot if they were older than me. So I know just how much your time and knowledge is worth and I appreciate everything you shown me and taught me! Been a gear head all my life and found motorcycles when my parents couldn't tell me no anymore! Made tons of money but made more poor choices than dollars and been fixing it ever since! Now I finially made some good choices and invested into myself again and it's paying off big time! I never forget who taught me what I know and your on a long thank you list but your up at the top of it! Hold me to it and I won't let you down! Thank you! And cheers from the USA! I'd love to go ride in your country some day so I can smell the air over there and see if it's anything like I imagine! We have beautiful places here but something seems pure about your land. Maybe it's just me making somthing from nothing but I think about this when I'm on long rides alone on warm nites just before dark! You know that time I'm talking about! I want to die and say I got to ride a sunset in every beautiful country on this planet before its too late.

Excellent progress pal, an electronic boost control solenoid with controller is a must I would say buddy, not only will you get much more accurate boost readings using a MAP sensor but also be able to avoid a linear boost curve through the higher RPMS, reducing load on the components every time you rev her up on the dyno. I suppose it will be needed to provide a lower boost level at times during road use to prevent uncontrollable wheel spin in low gear/low speed scenarios. Keep up the good work bud Watching from the Hebrides ;)

Perhaps a sheet of titanium for the rotary valve ? It would be light AND strong, plus it wouldn't flex. It just needs to be cut and drilled, no welding is required so it's no issue. Suggestions such as a rev-limiter is a good one, but it's still a band-aid solution. Stronger components is the proper solution when chasing big power reliably.

I have worked in places that had an engine dyno. It was designed inside a well ventilated room that could withstand the flying debris of an engine failure. The room also has the controls located outside where the operator is safe so if anything were to go sideways you will be shielded. It would also help with inhaling the nitro fumes. Great content! Couple of hints: 1. lower the compression ratio for more boost and beef up the piston. 2. If possible, recycle the wastegate into compressor intake (basically, ’short-circuit’ the compressor by controlled leak) or use less gearing on the pulley. This way, you are just venting the fuel and creating pumping losses. 3. Balance the rotary valve?

Hey, I love your content and seeing you making progress. As working engineer in combustion development for future engines, i recomend you to evaluate your combustion chamber design. Since you are running high boost levels, in combination with a fast burning fuel, it will be better to reduce the squish area due to fact that you will be able to get a sustainable high burn rate with decreased turbulence level. Reduction of the squish level, will decrese the knock tendency. Probably an open-chamber design will fit your requirements since you are not interested in low emmisions at low engine speed near zero load.

The smaller valve with the ball and spring in it doesnt control boost by itself... its more a delay valve and its purpose is to prevent the wastegate from seeing any boost until the delay valve hits its pre-set pressure. When the pre set pressure on the delay valve opens, then pressure goes to the waste gate and opens it. This is because when the wastegate is controlling boost on its own, it has to begin opening at a lower pressure to control the peak pressure its set to. The delay valves are also referred to as "boost foolers" because of how they work.
