Sad thing was, I had a P238, sold it to buy the Colt- I have since bought another P238 and it’s way more reliable. But I liked the size of the colt better and the barre was longer being the government model not the mustang.

I have a colt mustang pocketlite that runs great.I would shoot 100 to 150 rounds a range session.Maybe 2 malfunctions in over 2000 rounds so its reliable.I retired it for a glock 42 but still own it.If colt still made them I would buy another but they stopped producing them when covid happened around 2021.

A fellow at the indoor pistol range was struggling with a Colt Pony 380 which is similar to your last complaint gun. At 7 yds he was unable to keep most hits on a full size silhouette and had multiple jams per magazine just as you showed. In frustration he looked at me and asked if I'd shoot it to see if I could do any better with it? 'Sure'! He had 3 magazines full and at that same 7 yds I quickly dumped all of them into about a 4" hole without any malfunctions. The guy didn't say a word, put the gun in his shooting bag and left....he seemed upset. There ARE guns that just don't fit someone's hand and grip strength where I might shoot it without issues but they constantly have limp-wristing problems. My 2 Colt Delta 10 mm's are jam-O-matics unless you really hold them tightly...which is my normal grip. No woman has been able to get more than a couple rounds through without a jam and this goes for many men too. Not everyone can shoot every gun...so find the ones that work well for you and stick with them and realize that the gun might not be at fault because you can't shoot it.

I tend not to sell guns...because I always regret it. But I have been disappointed with some over the years. 1. Carbon 15 in the late 90s. They were all the rage. The thing weighed something like 4 pounds. Maybe less. Couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with the it. Parts were not interchangeable with AR parts and was pretty much a POS. BUT...they were a hot item at the time and I quickly traded it for a pre-ban Bushmaster EA15E2S "AK Shorty" which is a GREAT rifle, and I still have it. 2. Another gun I acquired...I didn't BUY it, it was given to me by a widow of an acquaintance who just wanted to get rid of it, was a cheap 2 shot derringer. I forget the brand, but it was junk. It was .38 Special. I traded it for something else...along with a lot of cash. Ironically, I have a Colt Mustang II Pocketlite, (similar to the Government Model .380) which works great. I carried it as an off duty gun for a time, but have retired it for lighter, smaller .380s for deep cover. I still own it, I just don't use it much anymore.

Bersa thunder 380. Cool looking little walther clone. Replaced the springs, polished the internals, and spent another $100 on four new mags. Couldn't make it through a full mag without a stovepipe or fte and double feed. Finally traded it for a Taurus model 85 38sp that is a decent gun. Still have it. While I still have my Marlin 795, I'm gonna miss it when I can no longer get spare parts. It has been a good shooter. I've replaced one of the plastic trigger guard and trigger, disconnector spring and recoil spring over the years. Thanks Ruger for not making parts. My wife wanted a Ruger LCP. What a POS. No one can get enough of a grip on it to shoot it comfortably even with a Hogue Grip. Because of the poor grip the recoil is worse than 40S&W. Thanks Ruger for making this POS. Yes, I still occasionally shoot it when I'm feeling particularly masochistic. And I can even hit 4" plate at 15 yards, but only shoot 100 rounds a year in it. I enjoy my 995TS in 9mm. Bought it when I was trying to save money to buy a boat. 10,000 or so rounds through it. (I reload, 10k rounds is fairly cheap) Took the springs out of the butt stock held it in tight with a screw. Love it that way. No more cheek burn.

Stinks about your Ruger. The 995TS is reliable, I didn’t feel like it was that accurate, ok I guess, but with my Ruger PCCarbine, I can make ragged holes at 25 and 50 yards with a red dot on the gun. That is way better than my 995TS and my Sub2000

On the colt. You polished where the bullet entered the barrel. Did you slick up the breach face where the back of the cartridge needs to slide up? Sometimes a bit of magazine-feed lip massage can help. You want the cartridge to come up as close to flat as is possible and not tilt up too much as it rises to barrel height. First-round problems can be too strong a magazine spring or the mag held too high and tight by the magazine latch. Try a bit of filing on the catch slot or borrow a way used and old mag. Mark your carry mags if they prove to be reliable. I have a bunch of M1A mags but only one that I will use in a match. 5 mags for a Glock 20. Only three that are reliable. I try real hard to never sell a problem away.
@crankygunreviews
@crankygunreviews 6 месяцев назад
I polished the entire barrel. That gun is LONG GONE. I got sick of “just trying” everything… it was a lemon- why is it so hard for people to admit not everything Colt puts out is perfect?
@deplorable1-2
@deplorable1-2 6 месяцев назад
@@crankygunreviews I acknowledged that you polished the barrel. I was talking about the other end of the cartridge. The breach face that contacts the back end of the cartridge. The end that you probably did not polish. Look at your jams in your video. The front of the cartridge is where it belongs. The rear of the cartridge is tilted down and caught at too great an angle to slide the rest of the way into the chamber. Too much friction on the REAR. The magazine lips could be holding on too long. I made zero mention of Colt greatness. I mentioned Colt only to ID the firearm as the topic in discussion. I am trying to help you see and learn. You are trying to continue to be unobservant and obtuse. You have the option to learn from my experience with shooting or you may stay as cranky as your name implies.

If you buy enough of them there will be some purchases you regret. Been there, done that many times. On your list I'd agree with you for most every comment which is why I dont have any of them. For me it was 1) Norinco machined reciever MAC 90 that had an oversized bore and couldnt stay on a 5 gallon bucket at 50 yards, 2) Davis P32 32ACP (I was very young and hopefully optimistic)that would never shoot more than a few rounds without jamming, 3) Diamondback DB9 Gen 4 that just didnt in any way fit my hand, Ive got other guns that are small and kick more but that thing was very, very uncomfortable for my hands. A 4) 1st run Taurus TX22 that had the bad barrel from the factory-It was replace but the gun never shot better than 6'' or so at 25 yards even with target ammo so it had to go. 5) Ruger stainless 77/44 that I couldnt get to shoot well. Regardless of the bullet weight and brand chosen the gun wouldnt shoot better than 4'' at 50 yards.

The second was a Mossberg 590A1; I got it to customize as a project but it locked up at the range and even after cleaning it I never got the chance to actually shoot it. @crankygunreviews
@crankygunreviews 6 месяцев назад
Well to be honest, I didn’t do tests I’ve never heard of. But I did check extractor tension, though I didn’t have a gauge to tel me what it was, but it did grip the shells and extract them- maybe it was too tight and not going over the rim. I “looked” at the face, didn’t see any abnormalities, but again, didn’t have a gauge to check anything, and I don’t know what the cartridge dangle test is, so no I didn’t do that. My biggest disappointment was my Springfield 1911 range officer champion 45acp, it was my own first 1911 . Everyone said to get one from a decent manufacturer. But I couldn't get it to feed reliability, even ball ammo 230 grain . Everyone I talked to , or later watched on RU-vid, polish the feed ramp , use better magazines, try different ammo. I polished the feed ramp and into the barrel to a mirror finish , got chip McCormick magazines and kimber pro magazines, all difficult ammo , and still the same issues. So then I replaced the recoil spring , and that was the problem, all that fighting and frustration.

Thanks for the Good information. In my humble opinion Derringers are too heavy, cumbersome and a thing of the past based on what technology allowed at that time for deep concealment. Great pocket guns like the .380 SW bodyguard are light, accurate a (EDC that you can forget you are carrying) and twice the capacity make the derringers obsolete for everyday carry. Worst gun I ever owned was a Ruger SR22 that had slide to frame slop making the pistol unreliable and inaccurate that could not be fixed without sending it in. I have had buddies in the past that had Ruger autoloading pistols that jammed on them while they told me how great Ruger is. Haha. While I do know Ruger has some good rifles and revolvers, they have always had poor to bad autoloading pistols. I don't buy any Ruger guns anymore and better off for it. P.S. I have a Hi Point 995 ape gun and mine has been accurate and reliable. I improved the trigger by smoothing and lightening it although it still does suck. The field strip is horrible. I only use factory mags and just use extra mags in an elastic butt sleeve so no big deal. I would have to do the same extra mags for a 1911 single stack pistol and at least the ape gun mag is ten rounds. Mine is reliable and very accurate and have it zeroed out to 100 yards so it is my vehicle gun that gives me more range than a pistol and if its stolen or impounded I am not out a whole lot of money unlike an AR or other sub guns. Sorry you had bad luck with yours and did not like it.

This is comical. I have been shooting Glocks for 30 years in damn near every environment and have never had any problems with them. There is a reason they are used by military and law enforcement entities throughout the world.

@@crankygunreviews I have the Charles Daly .410 upper and It seems to work pretty good as long as you're careful not to use shells that are too long. I've shot around a couple hundred rounds so far. I shot ATI #8 buck shot, ATI slugs, ATI #9 target loads, and Hornady triple defense. Those all seem to do okay. One thing you have to watch out for is loading the rounds carefully into the mags to avoid rim lock. I also have an ATI .410 upper that I acquired recently. I haven't shot it yet, but one thing, I've noticed is the basic design of these 2 is quite similar. They are both piston guns. They have a piston that seems to mount coaxial around the barrel. There are tabs on both sides of the bolt carrier that the piston pushes against to move it back and forth. I think this may be a key point of how these shotgun uppers work. Shot shells typically produce much lower pressure than rifle rounds. In a Direct impingment AR the bolt itself functions as a "piston". But the surface area of the bolt is small. The force which actuates the bolt is going to be equal to pressure multiplied by surface area. With the high pressure of rifle cartridges the small surface area may be sufficient, but perhaps not with shotshells. The piston used in these .410 uppers probably has significantly more surface area. So, that multiplies the force. I don't have a BCA .410 upper and it looks like they've recently removed them from their site. So, I don't know how they work. Are they piston or DI? If they are DI, that might explain why they have more issues. Also there are a couple more unique things about Charles Daly and ATI .410 uppers. One is they have a different kind of ejector. It's basically, a ring like structure attached to a long pin. There is a little hinged bracket just in front of the rear take down pin. The bracket swings down to allow you to slide the BCG out when the upper and lower are apart. Anyway, the bracket has a little piece that goes up into the upper and when the bolt carrier goes all the way back that ring like structure on the extractor contacts it pushing the long pin forward, which in turn pushes through the bolt face to push the shell loose. Is the BCA upper similar or does it have the more traditional AR style ejector? One of the key differences between shotshells and rifle shells is that they have a rim which extends beyond the width of the shell. I think that may have a lot to do with the design. The last thing I noticed is the buffer. Both ATI and Charles Daly expressly say to make sure you use the buffer included with the upper. Upon examining the buffers of both the ATI and Charles Daly, they appear very similar to a traditional carbine buffer. The weight is the same as a standard carbine buffer. But there is one significant difference. They are a bit shorter in overall length. I think this is to allow the BCG to toward a bit further back into the carbine buffer tube before stopping. Shot shells are unique in that they actually get longer after they are fired and the crimp unfolds. Therefore, it makes sense that the BCG must travel backward farther to eject the spent shell. Is the BCA upper similar in this regard? I was thinking of getting one of the BCA .410 uppers, if for no other reason, just to see if the design was similar to the ATI and Charles Daly, but when I looked they were always out of stock. However, recently it looks like they've completely removed them from their site.
