I wish I could answer to all folks here in the comment section; however, the trip to Rhode Island has been hectic!!! So, just to clarify -- I have pointed out at 8:21 that it is my PERSONAL opinion that the Crankbait is too big for MY AREA. Never have I said in the video that it doesn't work. I was just annoyed because I just knew that the lure wouldn't work properly for the watershed that I picked. Haha. And as you guys can see, I even included a Poll in the cards of the video. That is going to be good data for MTB for their future Panfish boxes, which is exactly why you should participate and voice your opinion. :) Tight lines and fish on, folks!

I bought the same nano crankbait that uncle steve used in his video. Matzuo. Actually have bought 4-5. Works good but old(beat up by walleye/sauger) 3" gulp minnows on a crappie hook with 1 or 2 splitshot have been what I use lately when crappies are hitting in my spot. I dont know if they leave or what but when they hit, you can catch 25-30 in an hour, then it just stops like they all left.

I'm with you on not being a big fan of crank baits for panfish. However, when I was a kid, my grandfather used to troll with cranks like that one and catch lots of big crappie. Especially in summer when they can be a little deeper, I can see how it could work, but probably not for bank fisherman like us :)
@extremephillyfishing

Team Cramer Fishing Agreed! I know some folks who would put that lure to amazing use. It is just as I said in the video: 8:21 -- too big for my area. And MTB focused quite a lot on Crappie for this month's box. :) Tight lines and thanks for watchingd

Hi Leo, I grew up on Newton Lake near the dock your dad caught the bass and you caught the Warmouth. The lake was deeper back in the 1950's and the water in front of the dock was 3 feet deep and no lilly pads. I was fishing there a few years ago in my kayak and the water was only 7 feet deep in the center. They used to have carp the size of torpedoes. The banks are now overgrown. I live in Winslow, NJ now and fish Oak Pond, New Brooklyn Lake and the sand pit pond near Stella's farm market on Penbryn Rd. The sand pit is 25 feet deep and the bank is very steep. I really like your videos. Keep up the good work.

In my area we have massive panfish that commonly eat whole top water frogs. That would be a great bait for the deeper ponds as the panfish are quite large.

When fishing deep diving crankbaits in shallow water, especially by weeds, I use the crankbait like this: I cast it, and when I see it on top of the water, I reel in a little bit or give a small tug so it dives down about 2 feet. Then I let it float back to the top and repeat. It's a nice technique for bass in shallow water if you only have a deep diver

What a great time with those ducks! I've recently had an experience with a lure being a bit too large for the fish in the water. I found some of the 'same' lure in two sizes: Small and micro. The micro are too small for my lightest setup, and the small are just long enough that the sunfish bite the tail and miss the hook. What a pain! But it's still fishing, so it's not bad!

Hey Leo what's up. I agree with your type of fishing some of those lures are big or too big of a depth range. In most of my body's of water , crappie are suspending in 20+ feet of water near/ or adjacent shore structure. Crappie have big mouths. fish on have fun

I’ve never seen you using a spinner. Is the use of a spinner such as a Mepps Comet Mino #1 forbidden in panfish fishing? When putting fish back in the water, is it not safer to move them forward submerged in the water so water moves past their gills and oxygen is put back instead of just throwing them back?

Sure that crankbait is definitely to large to and dives too deep to fish from shore. However if you fish from a boat you can definitely catch big crappies and perch on that thing in any lake that has some depth. MTB still has to keep boat fisherman interested right?

lio shen do i always need a piece of bloody meat/whatever on the hook or will they bite without it? the nearest bait to me is very smelly and unpleasant to touch I'm near the schukillriver and new at fishing (never caught one) but vie bin trying for the last 3 days and only get nibbles and little fish eating my bait

I see why you were annoyed, but that would have been perfect for me. In my area we have mainly white crappie, and that Jenko lure would be perfect for them. I catch more crappie on bass lures than anything else. Bandit 100-200-300, and Flicker Shads, up to #7 catch crappie for me all the time-as small as 6". I like fishing with ultra-light gear, but my main complaint about most panfish crankbaits is that they don't dive very deep. Lakes in my area tend to have steep banks, and it is virtually impossible to get a smaller crank anywhere near the bottom, or to where schools of crappie tend to suspend. 8-18 feet would be a marked improvement over most panfish baits.

for bank fishing in most circumstances, that crankbait has a bit to big bill. But I have caught panfish fishing with crankbaits before. They sometimes target the same size as themselves. I don't think they would actually eat it. It just has a big bill, so by a dam would be good.

If you don't think crankbaits work for panfish check out lucky craft skt tiny cranks. They are 4.0 grams and 38mm, some in shallow and deep square bill. They slay panfish and bass. I do suggest swapping to smaller trebles because it comes with like a size 8 which is giant for that small a lure. Ilovehardbaits on eBay has a good selection of them.

I certainly have no doubt that there are a great many panfish big enough and even more importantly aggressive enough to hit a lure like that. However, I have to say that personally I would reach for about a dozen other lures (all of them smaller) first before I ever threw anything like that specifically targeting panfish, even big crappie. But hey, if lures like that work best in y'all's areas then that's awesome!

Yesterday I was fishing for panfish with a baitholder hook and worms. And I went to reel in and I notice this thing was big. I thought it was a bass. But I got it closer and no joke it was a pike but i screamed of excitement when I noticed how big it was. It was maybe a 50-70 pound pike. I'm 5'5 and this thing was maybe 4 foot . I had 10 pound test line so I had to let it wear itself out. But it sadly got off. I wouldn't be able to ever get it out of the water if I actually had too

For trolling for huge slab crappie that would be a great crank bait.

I fish for mostly bass, that being said I've caught bluegill on small cranks and spinnerbaits, crappie on bigger cranks like the bomber fat A and bigger spinner baits like 1/2 oz booyahs. I've been surprised by how aggressive some fish can be, even in shallow bodies you can dig a trench with a deep crank and catch something. but I do agree that that specific crank was a little bigger than ideal for the situation. A small squarebill would have been better.

I would use that crank bait trolling for monster crappie on lake pymatuning. You'd slam them with that thing. Get some 15-16 inch slabs!
