We have been using the Crashpad Swag for over a year and a half. We've been in deep snow, freezing cold, hot deserts, heavy rain, and rough expedition conditions. With all of this experience, it's time to do a full review of the Crasphad double swag.

Got my double swag from Crashpad and went to setup on the weekend to season the canvas and my pole broke, sent an email and within 2 days I had replacement poles. Qld to Sydney in 2 days from an Email. Crashpad have great customer service.

I love the simplicity of a swag tent. So many sleep options like RTT, truck campers, trailers really limit the functionality and capability of a vehicle. The biggest downside is the lack of standing room in my opinion. I love the idea of just throwing a swag on a roof rack, strapping it down and exploring.
@EmbarkWithMark
@EmbarkWithMark Год назад
Exactly! Not being able to sit up right kind of sucks, especially if you are stuck in a tent due to bad weather. But, yes we love how simple and touch these things are. It's our go to tent.

I had one of my buckles break and contacted crashpad. They sent two replacements in less than week. Give them a call. I keep the spare buckle in the pole bag.

@@EmbarkWithMark very helpful, thanks a lot! As far as height goes, are you able to sit up inside of it like you can in, say, a backpacking tent? Also, how did it do for you guys in the snow? Did you use an additional sleeping pad? Did it cave in under the snow load? I was very impressed to hear that you barely stake it down! A true “freestanding” tent has generally been an oxymoron. I’d also add that canvas is very easy to fix if you have a rip. Have done it in my big Kodiak tent and it’s held up great.

@@vladd5291 Glad the view was helpful! You can sit up in it, but it is a bit tight. Its not something you will be wanting to sit up in for a length of time. The tent was fantastic in the snow. No bowing at all, no caving. We also did not use an additional sleeping pad. In fact for the entire life we have used this tent, it's only been with the mattress that comes with it and our two down sleeping bags that we use as blankets. Very true, canvas is not only super tough, but very repairable as well!

Just ordered one of the singles for myself! I'm 6'6" and 260lbs so I also got the stretcher/cot for it to give me some extra give on the mattress when I lay down. They are not offering the double anymore, unfortunately. So, if I like it enough, gonna order a second one for my wife

I Dont mind a good nights sleep in a swag, but i hate when people call these a tent. But these are not a tent due to the name Swag, Swags were made to have ya sleeping gear in and ready to roll out to sleep in. But good review on it mate.

Great review Mark! Thanks for that! How does it hold up in long down pouring rain? (Which we have a lot in The Netherlands)
@EmbarkWithMark
@EmbarkWithMark 2 года назад
We've not used the tent in a down pour that I would consider on the levels of the Netherlands, but all the rain we have been in the tent has been great. Also we wash the tent fairly often which consists of me turning my hose on full and hosing the entire thing off for a good 30 minutes to an hour at least. There is never water inside. The material beads water super well! I hope that helps.

Good review from the user perspective. How much do you recommend it over a good rtt?
@EmbarkWithMark
@EmbarkWithMark 4 месяца назад
I own both right now. What I can say is. If the RTT is in a truck bed or low on a trailer. Than go for the RTT. But if you are planning on putting the RTT in the roof. Go with the swag. That’s just my opinion and after just having a baby 2 months ago I can tell you that as unfun as RTTs where to open on the roof of a car before. They are a lot less fun to open with a young baby now. The ladder just sucks. That is unless your thinking of putting the RTT down low some where. Just my thoughts. Take it for what you will. I hope you choose the right setup for yourself. You can’t really go wrong with either.
@RogerCampillo
@RogerCampillo 4 месяца назад
Thanks for your feedback. You just hit my situation! I have a 2,5 yo toddler. My thoughts were always go for the rtt, but now I realize that even if the “house on the tree” can be funny, the reality could be not as good to manage. I’m also quite concerned about putting that big weight on the top of the truck. Rtt+270 awning is a lot of weight up there compromising driveability on and off-road. Also fast setup should be hard shell. But hs rtt are not big enough or they are super expensive and quite heavy. So I’m thinking on a big swag to sleep all 3 with the support of the awning + eventually some walls. The goal is comfort, quality ease setup in the wild and vehicle performance. I’m thinking on the Darche Nebula 1550+ and the Kulkyne Igloo 1600. There also the 23zero Duke 1600 but the internal height is not the same along the swag
@RogerCampillo
@RogerCampillo 4 месяца назад
I like also the option OZtent RV. It’s super convenient and reputed quality, but it’s much more expensive than a big swag and I should add good mattresses, so at the end the complete setup will be not as far from a RTT. Also I have already ground tents. The fast setup with all the sleeping stuff included in the swag is quite appealing

how much does the full kit weigh with sleeping gear inside?

I want to say some where around 30-35 pounds. Really depends on what sleeping gear is used. We just use down sleeping bags.
