My definition of "quick" might not fall in line with others. But I've got you know, things to say. I call these a "quickview" because it covers unboxing and initial testing. It does not speak to durability, longevity, etc.
This is the "quick" review of the RC4WD King Off-Road Scale Dual Spring Shocks (90mm)

It's hard to be positive when you've already tried the best (meaning the Dravtechs). I have them on all my comp rigs and I love them. I remember pining after these back in the day and getting them and hating my life after installing them.

What spring rate setup do you use from them? My rig is 6lbs in the rear and 4.5lbs in the front.

Great Video! about 1 year or so ago I bought a set of these King Shocks. Before I got the 2nd shock filled with oil, the 1st shock was leaking like a water faucet. I then stopped and clean both up and put them back in the package. For me I still like the Team Associated Enduro shocks. I have not gotten a set of Dav Tech shocks yet but after seeing your reviews on shock and you mention them, I am going to try them on a build I'll be doing. Keep up the good work, really enjoying these videos.

My all time favorite "super budget" shock has always been the traxxas ultra shock. $35 for a new set of 4. Nip the ear off the top cap, drill the center for a 3mm bolt, and screw on a short ball joint to the top. They work well, super durable, cheap, and everywhere. Not the most scale looking, but they always work well!
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
I've never had any complaints about Traxxas Ultras. But for a few more bucks you can opt for 2660s (Big Bores) which are so good they're what Dravtechs are made out of. But in this case, a dowel with a spring over it would do a better job than the Kings.

Those leak so much that it does not matter if you can bleed them. They won't be overfilled for long. They seem as every bit as good as the rtr shocks on my Gelande 2 Defender. Garbage. Couldn't keep oil in them at all. Glad I didn't pick RC4WD shocks to replace them. That said, the only RC4WD parts that I buy for performance are the tires. Everything else is for scale appearance.

I got lucky with my Incision shocks, I think-- I've heard lots of stories about them leaking. I guess they've changed something somewhat recently, as my newest set of 80mm (from Blackjack) have no sign of leaking at all.

@@CrawlerCanyon When they come with a rebuild kit, it makes me nervous. If they're new, I shouldn't have to rebuild them. Two of them leaked right out of the fresh kit! Bad luck maybe..... Great show again by the way. The King has been de-thrown'd.

I wanted to really like RC4WD but their quality is non-existent. They have great scale bodies. That's it. I was working on my Xtracab kit the other day and was putting Bilstein shocks on it and their stickers won't even stick. Only RC4WD could mess up stickers lol. And this is a well known problem 😂
@Br0rB
@Br0rB Год назад
If a nice scale body is all you're after, might as well get a WPL. Excellent hardbody models, on a mediocre chassis (can be decent enough with upgrades), and far, far cheaper than an RC4WD. Smaller scale, but to have on the shelf, they are great, and great looking. I have several, and like them - after some (a lot of) upgrades. :)

@@ctrc5541 They look really nice, and they're pretty cheap too. I thought it came with regular coil-overs, but if it comes with leafs in the box, that's really cool. I only have the one FMS, the Jimny that Mr. Canyon sent me, all the way across the Atlantic, and an 18th scale EazyRC Arizona (FMS brand, Jeep body), and they're both really awesome looking, but there are very few upgrades and such for them (if any).

As far i know, with 2 springs off 10Kg, stacked on top of each other, then total is 5Kg. For true dual spring, there should be a adjustable ring to stop the spring slider at some point, so 1 spring takes the full load.
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
It's a bodgy way to approximate a progressive spring-- provided that there are two springs of different rates installed. The only dual-spring setup I can get behind is the Desert Lizard style, where one spring is on each side of the piston, so we have control over both extension and compression.

I will say the leaking you had in the pack is bad, I personally havent see that, yes we could do better for less a lost less ive got quite a few sets, 8 on clod 4 on a trx 4 and 4 on a waith build my 2 complaints on them the gold has worn off after 4 years so maybe thats expected and the spring retainers at the bottom of the shocks slip off easily, I mainly bought them because of looks, im happy with them.

For some reason I cant warm up to the RC4wd brand at all, The leakeage in those shocks is unacceptable and they are not fit for purpose in my eyes. I have a set of Injora Mountain shocks which cost £18 which is around $20 and they have tuning springs in the pack and they dont leak. Admittedly I am on a tight budget so they had to do, but they work quite well and the 35wt oil stays inside. They also do a set that look the same as the KIngs and theyre even cheaper than the Mountains at £15.76 which is less than $20 and I bet they dont leak either. The RC4wd trucks look good scale wise but I don't actually like them and for some reason people rave about them. I also think that their stuff massively overpriced even campared to most rc stuff which is overpriced. I must admit I do own a set of RC4WD Z-T0136 Trail Rider 1.9 tyres. I didn't know they were RC4wd I just saw the tread pattern and brought them for my Carisma SCA-1E Range Rover as they were the same as the real tyres I had on my 1:1 off road Range Rover. Not tested yet as the truck is still in kit form. Anyway ive rambled on an written an essay. Thanks for the video they are always good to watch and you definition of quick is a good thing. Too many people doing these shorts vids and not proper content, I enjoy your videos however long they may be and im sure everyone who tunes in thiinks the same. Keep up the great work. I hope to be able to send you some things in the future budget willing.

I am new to rc and i just finished my phoenix build I am looking for new shocks I was only drawn to these for how they look but everyone says they're terrible. What are your recommendations?
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
The Incisions that come with the kit are pretty nice shocks, if a little leaky. If you're trying to stay with 80mm (assuming you have the portal) your options are a bit more limited, and my recommendation at that length is to just skip to the first best option and get Dlux Fab Dravtechs. They are a level above anything else. If you're on a straight axle and looking for 90s, you have a whole lot more choice-- Traxxas GTS are excellent shocks, and can be had from Jenny's RC (a dismantler in NJ) for under $40 for a full set. GTS are so "unleaky" I have sets that have never been touched since they were built. Beyond that, I would say... Dravtechs. Element shocks are very, very good, but buying them a la carte costs as much as Dravtechs, and might as well go for the top-of-the-line at that point.
@michaelstinson8047
@michaelstinson8047 Год назад
@@CrawlerCanyon Thank you for getting back to me so quickly I do have the portal axles I was thinking about going with 90s and mounting them at the link location I see many people say dravtechs are the best but I did not know how important it was to have that screw adjustment for the spring which those do not have I seem to mess with that a good bit
