This is a cover of Crawling Kingsnake by The Black Keys. I love The Black Keys, especially their early albums, so I was very happy to see a new release by them in the New Music Friday playlist on Spotify this morning. This is the first song to be released from their upcoming album Delta Kream. They've credited the song to John Lee Hooker, but it sounds to me like they're covering Junior Kimbrough's version of the song, which is quite different. I don't usually play this style of guitar and I found it pretty challenging but very much fun as well. Enjoy!

Absolutely fantastic! This is some very classy stuff. I am not a huge fan of this genre but if there were more artists as good as you. I probably would listen more often. A gold needle in a stack of blues

Thanks David! The Black Keys have been going for a while now. They started out as a duo, playing blues. I saw them live in that setting a long time ago. Then they had their big radio record Brothers which was cool as well, but I'm excited to hear them play this style again for another album!

@@eelkemusic I just looked at their video of this song. They sound like a southern band but are from Ohio which is much further north. I like your acoustic version better than their electric version. They have that same Allman Brothers sound on the song.

I'm new to playing guitar and I'm trying to learn how to play the blues, I find this song amazing since it doesn't stray away from the beginning of the riff and yet it sounds amazing. Do you have any idea what the Chord Progression is on this particular song by the Black Keys? It's kind of hard to figure out since It's mostly a riff

Hi Leinard! I know what you mean, it's hard to hear the chords since it's so riff based. Listening back to this version I'd say it's based around a Gm7 the whole time, and going to a C (or C7) at the end of each verse (...and I wanna..). Let me know if this helps you or if you have any more questions!

Hey! Not at this time, and it would be pretty tricky to make a tutorial since I just figured this out by ear and was barely able to play it like I wanted myself, when I recorded it :) Here's what I can say to get you started: It's regular tuning (I thought it was open G at first) but tuned down a whole step. So D-standard tuning. It's really only an Am (shape) chord and a D (shape) chord which in this tuning I guess would sound like Gm and C. Start by figuring out the little melodies around the Am shape, and play them while continuously picking the A string with your thumb. Let me know if you have any specific questions after that!

I actually couldn't remember, but I was looking back at my reactions to older comments and it's regular tuning but a whole step down. So D standard. Look for the commenter asking for a tutorial, I've typed out some more clues to how I play it in my response :)
