After launching the video «GIVING UP ON OUR DREAM?» (which actually means that we intend to sell BareBare), lots of good ideas and questions came up. In this video we try to answer some of the questions and ask you people out there if you have other ideas or suggestions of what to do with over beloved Wharram Tiki 38 BareBare!

Thank you for your kind words. We are rich in experiences and with boats (which needs LOTS of work ; ) - I even have a small boat from 1906 that has been in the family for 60 years... even more work...

People should know that 30k would be a good price. I just costed a Tiki 38 build in Europe and when you factor everything in, build space, time, materials, equipment and commissioning, you won't have much change out of 100k.

Agree on that! But with wooden boats (and maybe any boats) the market decides, and one can decide to sell or not. But we have put in a lot of work and love into BareBare - that is for sure!

The lower ply hulls would be where the rot most likely is located ,maybe some beam rot & decks? I would love to take on this project ( if I were younger ,I am not uthave the experience building a 33 Woods Cat) assume marine Okoume ply was used with epoxy glass over as per plans?

Hi and thanks for your comment. We have not detected any rot on the lower plywood hulls, but have found in part of the «pockets» were the beams lay. Also in the beams, especially in the areas where the bolt goes through. We did cover with lots of tar, and maybe also epoxy (I dont really remember), but anyway in this area the bolts moves and makes «scar»... and with moist/water... We used what is called «kokefast» plywood in Norwegian, not the very best plywood, I think maybe the second best. One of the guys on our building team turned 80 when we went to Tahiti in 2019... ; ) Good to hear from you again!

Sorry for your adventure stopped. I am french, owned and sailed 2 sailboats (monos) and could stay in french polynesia more easily. Can i know how much and where some parts are rotten ? Maybe you did not put enough epoxy protection when building the boat ? On my side, i could buy it maybe for 10 000 euros maximum. Good luck in your choices !

There is a Wharram specialised warft in Bohol Philippines. May be it is easier to ship it there. And cheaper to fix it.

Hi! Philippines sounds like a very good idea. I have still not been able to find out if they ship containers from Raiatea. If someone wants to ship it in a container, I think my husband and I will have to go and superwise, unless someone is super handy!

The website is offline, may be its out of business. But even if, the employees should still be there. It was just a few kilometers fromm Panglao Beach. Bohol, Philippines. Andy Smith boatworks as far as I remember...

So the boat name is BareBare as in bare-naked. Why do you call it butter-butter? Perhaps my southern U.S. Ears are not tuned in to your Norwegian accent. It sound exactly like butter-butter. I find it super interesting how the English language sounds SO different spoken by people around the world. Ok enough questions, good luck finding a home for butter-butter - wink!

I pronounce the name BareBare in Norwegian on my videos while I speak english with probably a bit of Norwegian accent mostly (sometimes also Norwegian)! There an expression in Norwegian that goes "Ikke bare bare" which can be translated to "Not just a walk in the park" in English. "This expression is used to emphasize that something is not straightforward or uncomplicated, but rather challenging or complex. It conveys that it requires effort or work to handle or achieve something." If you then remove "Ikke" from "Ikke bare bare," it becomes ironical, and the translation to English would be "Just a walk in the park." This phrase is often used ironically to suggest that something is not as easy or simple as it may seem at first glance. (ChatGPT helped me with this)

@@barebaretoborabora building that in yours cold and damp climate is not suitable for epoxy...put in container for long time also...so fix it is questionable at least?!
