@@michaelburton Most people nowadays get licenses without even touching Drivers Ed. The issue isn’t education, it’s the lack of common sense that becomes the problem
@user-mi2hg3fx1j oh I'm sure it'll do it in neutral too. I've had some of the newer minis and a lot of Mercedes fight to stay in park when you open the door.
@@roblacerra3257 I've got it in my work Chevy. Same with Dodge. Shits annoying when you're door open trying to ease up to something on site and it locks up immediately
Exactly what I was thinking. Just more dumb things to break because of being lazy. If you can't think to put something in park and then get out of the vehicle, don't drive. Please.
Good thing for thought of this, in any modern Ford if you put the vehicle in neutral and hit sport or manual, it keeps the vehicle in neutral, even with the engine off
@@Hartigan141the joke is that Fords always break down, hence the reason for having to push it. I had heard they scrapped the heated rear bumper for this “feature”.
But it's drunk proof. If I can by the grace of God, get it home AND manage to stagger up the walk and into the house, Ford takes care of that pesky in-between period. Cant tell you how many neighbors' innocent phylladendrums will spared thanks to this stroke of genius.
Oh, im thinking of all the ways id disable the servo that controls this bullcrap... lol. If ya are dumb enough to leave your car in neutral and step outta it allowing it to roll downhill or something...you probably shouldn't be driving.
@@NeoIsrafil Bruh when I seen this video I was thinking that this coworker of mine should've had this shyt on her car. Her azz spilled some coffee on her and jumped out of her car but didn't put in back in park. So the car door hit her, then she fell and the car ran over ankle. She crawled back in the house called 911 then called off work. Bruh the funny part is that when the ambulance came, her Ford Escape was still in Drive pinned against her garage. 😂
Well, if everyone would shop within their budget and stop trying to flex for social media, that wouldn’t have to happen. But the brainless morons still do that shit
That was my thought. In our one garage, we have paint markings for the in ground lift. You have to open the door usually to check where you're at and creep into position.
@@elonmuskie are you sure elon ? Do you know that independently or just because this guy said it? I trust you elon so hopefully it’s not like that whole window debacle
Dodge had this in 2006. I remember my dad, a contractor at the time, losing his shit whenever he would open the door to get a good luck while reversing. The truck would beep and go into park.
Imagine growing up thinking its safe to exit a vehicle without putting it in park. Then getting into another vehicle that doesn't have that feature and realizing the car is now out of control.
had something similar happen recently, my main daily driver puts itself in park when it switches off, I jumped in my old car and turned it off but left it in drive, went to go jump out and it starts rolling back down the driveway because it was still in drive but the engine was off
@@1Guason3you cant see the rear wheels when looking out the window without basically hanging out the window, which doesnt leave you in a position to properly control the vehicle. With the door open you get a better view while being able to remain in the seat with your feet able to control the pedals.
As somebody who work on cars all day and have to precisely align them on the floor for lifts this feasture really tends to bite you right in the ass man
The amount of people I've seen leaving their vehicles in drive before getting out or not applying their handbrake in a manual is insane. So I actually believe this is a good safety feature
yes. We are making the world to easy and I think that's why it's going to shit. Too many stupid people that would not be here if not for these safety features.
@@F1zzzy90 Indeed it is, but sadly too many people are crying over it just like the new 2025 RAM trucks. Truly makes me think will these people ever stop bitching?
as long as the seatbelt is plugged into the buckle it shouldn't go into park. I drive tow truck and these bullshit electronic shifters usually have "car wash mode" for leaving it in neutral and exiting the vehicle. usually has to be running to get it in Neutral from park. If the seat belt is buckled it should stay in neutral with the door open.
@@codyneitte9801 you obviously have never driven large equipment or hauled anything with that comment. Checking lines on large vehicles is sometimes necessary and your ignorance shows with that comment.
Cool. Should be awesome when it puts it in park at highway speed because you parked in the rain for a few days, and those harness plugs installed by the Friday afternoon guy trying to leave early weren’t weather tight.
Yes!!! I just did a AC belt on my newer Camaro yesterday. They took the tensioner away, it's a stretch fit belt. Wtf was wrong with a tensioner?? They need to leave well enough alone.
@rob crossan stretch ac belts are the bane of my existence. Lol. So needlessly tedious now to change a tiny ass belt for no fckn reason. Chevy: Wanna change your ac belt? Cool, now you have to manually crank the motor to do so. 😂
My family farm had a great employee a while back that didn’t put a pickup back in park and it rolled down and hit something. When you work a lot sometimes you screw up. This seems like a great feature that can fix someone from screwing up. I will admit that a lot of the electronic junk on these new vehicles aren’t good. But this is one thing I like.
Power seats, electric steering, digital displays, keypads, power mirrors, power windows, and a hundred sensors that control things you don't even know exist. I drive a 20 year old luxury suv, half of these things are broken on it, most are too expensive to fix.
@@Fernan2010 they have the neutral mode where if you put it in neutral and press the M while your foot is on the brake, it should stay in neutral but sometimes the sensors in front of the truck can override the neutral setting and just park
omg, I did that with older gen 350 dump body on a hill... got out (it was in D), walked up to another truck, talked for a few minutes, got back in my truck, and shook my head in shame, but that thing didn't budge!
😂 i immediately see the situation where i try to reverse a few feet while looking at the ground or the edge of a cliff and oops it shifted to park as i open the door to look.
it's annoying because ford "ladder prices" like apple products do. So even if it's a "Special feature" it's going to be priced "just a little more" plus standard with 4wheel drive so you always end up buying the BS.
@@truecrimejungle You know what you could do? Not buy a ford. Anyways, probably has some utilization in law enforcement. A couple of incidents immediately came to mind where law enforcement could've benefitted from this feature.
@@YodaWasSith I do when I am hooking up my trailers. Do it when pulling out tree stumps up at my land, do it at the boat ramp to see how far the trailer is in the water. Just because you don't do anything in life doesn't mean others are the same way.
Yes thank you. My ram honks 3 times every time I leave the engine running and get out.. like 5 am when I’m getting ready for work. I don’t need your help, I know the engine is running, thanks.
Yup sometimes when backing up my trailer I open the door and look out this would prevent me from doing it and I already hate it because my girls Honda Pilot does this shit if you open the door with it in reverse it will shift back into park automatically
@@tyer7.628 that’s because a lot of idiots weren’t putting their vehicles in park and they would roll away and hit other property or people. So of course instead of having them take driving school or have their license revoked. The manufacturers are forced to idiot proof it kinda.
My ram a 2020 will do something similar to this. It'll put it back in park and put the e brake on... which is real fun when you are trying to back up a couple inches to hook a trailer up.
It won’t allow you too, just like with a lot of the Chrysler products with electronic shifter you could probably stick your head out of the window or hold down the door ajar switch that’s located on the door jam.
@@stephengulski6289 the 2022 f150 I drive let’s you drive or reverse with door open. It’s when you leave it in drive/reverse, have seatbelt off, open door and take weight off the seat that it puts it in park for you

@@katelights soo, you're saying that you trust something that has extra parts that can fail? When all it takes is a habitual arm throw? You are better off with a audio cue just like when the headlights are on and the door is open when the vehicle is off.
I worked on Mercedes work van at work once that would slam in park if the door opened at low speeds. Real fun to mess with the guys pulling into the bays 😂
@user-nj8yz3ci1p as far as I've heard, that's only for people who have lost their license due to intoxicated driving. They make you pay the get the machine installed, and a fee every month for using it til the time limit up.

This was initially a feature for LEO’s, and was prototyped in the last generation CVPI. The thought was, there had been many incidents of an officer leaping from a vehicle under duress and said vehicle rolled into vehicles/properties not owned by the LEO agency leading to high insurance rates.
That’s such a great idea because when the sensor starts to go out it’ll just put your truck in reverse and then into park while scooting down the freeway lol. Not everything has to be computer controlled and dumbed down, some people actually enjoy driving and don’t need/want to be chauffeured around in every way. For example, If you can’t remember to put your truck in park before getting out of it, i don’t think you should be driving in general but hey what do i know lol
I'm wondering if it can mess with the normal function of the column shifter. That would be crazy if it locked up or something. I'm sure there's way to disable it in the settings.
@@97Crazysteve Imagine a carjacker breaking your window, or driving with your windows down. Or even just pointing a gun at you with the window up and you try to fake compliance by opening the door, but take off instead.
Exactly. Or you have to move a few inches forward or back to line up a trailer and hope in the truck with one foot in, and the door open with the other foot hanging out of the truck lol
I remember when they first started making cars where the top of the door is curved. And the ad came on TV that said "The door seemlessly integrates with the body." And my dad laughed and said "Yeah, for how long?"
Already dealt with this system malfunctioning on a 2023 f150. It's even better because it automatically activates the parking brake at the same time. FPOS was repeated many times as the tow truck was loading it on to a flatbed. 90 days and 3 separate trips to the dealership later it's back in service.
@@clickbaitgod6384 to do an alignment on most modern day alignment machines you have to do the setup then roll the car forward onto plates that measure the alignment. If the car puts itself in park it will require another person sitting inside of it to push it forward instead of just getting down to business.
He said it would do it in reverse or drive. So should be good for alignments if neutral doesn't engage the thing. The newer Ram trucks have that auto park feature anyways. Already had to figure that out
Alignments with this feature SUCK. I pulled a super duty on the rack with this shit and was sweating fuckin bullets not being able to see how close I was to one end of the rack
My 15 year old pathfinder just beeps at me, leaving me to make the decision. This just means someone somewhere has the power to wirelessly take your truck out of gear
I work at a car wash and can confirm if you open the door while in park and then put it into neutral or drive it will stay you just have to have the door open when you put it in gear
Automatic transmission is incapable of putting itself in park unless stopped, you're going to hear a clunking sound coming from the parking pawl trying to engage with no harm done to the transmission.
So glad my 2017 doesn't do this. It's hard to reach the keypad on gated communities in a Superduty without opening the door and leaning out the window. I can still stand on the brake just fine.
