This is my favorite scene from FLCL if I had to pick just one. The way the song amps up and syncs with the animation makes this one of the most intense, cathartic, nostalgic, and coolest scenes in any media.
Oh fuck, I just noticed that the way the red sky goes back to blue after the giant baseball gets hit back by Haruko is exactly the same way the sky turns red during Third Impact in Evangelion 2.0. Eva inspired FLCL, inspired Eva.
It's unbelievably satisfying feeling when the ball flies up and the red sky is blown away by the pressure. But I'd have to say the part that is the most intense. Is when the music starts to amp up as we see it enter the atmosphere, and the entire sky lights up red. So perfectly with the music. Almost as if the earth itself went on high alert to see how it all plays out.
Childhood. What a show... This show literally influenced me the most from childhood. Looking back now after having lost my mother, grew up with a Dad I hardly knew, my older brother having left too. I realized just how much this show truly did influence me after rewatching it again. Nothing crazy like this of course but it's funny how the universe does that kind of stuff. I loved this show as a child, and was watching this character who would be in the same boat that I'd be in just a handful of years down the line. And without realizing it, I was playing a character to cope with all that loss back then. It all feels like life times ago.. it's been so long since that day..
Anyone else get hella Evangelion vibes from this scene? The eyebrows guy (forget his name, or did he even have one? Can't remember atm) and his underlings just scream NERV HQ with the observation style, amongst other details...
...Yeah it's funny looking back on this comment. At that time in my life I had only just seen Eva for the first time and I _still_ hadn't quite caught on to the fact that yes, the sequence is obviously framed as a parody. That was the joke, they're clobbering the audience so hard with the parallel imagery it's causing the characters' noses to bleed profusely. Meanwhile my stupid ass is still staring at it and going "this is a reference, right? I think so..." Sometimes I hate RU-vid for making me stare my past self in the mirror like this. But at the same time it reminds me that I've matured, so I guess it's not so bad?
pulling out takkun's guitar is a symbol for pulling out his you-know-what. "Swinging the bat" I believe symbolizes him maturing and going through with having sex, even though he's nervous af to do so.
mryoyoserpico Well the whole event is basically a metaphor for sex, so they're turned on I think? Lmao Listen to the wording used between the characters closely and you'll understand.
The size of guitar that Haruko pulls out of his head is implied to be related to penis size/sexual performance in some way. When the guy with huge eyebrows had the same thing done to him, for example, all that came out was like, a little fleshy nubbin. Nothing useful. For Naota to have a fully complete guitar (since the workers are apparently aware of the correlation) inspires dirty thoughts, especially with the context their dialogue creates.
People have their preferences, but when people follow a particular preference when it's some kind of trend, then it's just ridiculous. I personally prefer both dub or sub; depending on the performance of voice actors and the revising of the translated script of how much it stuck with the original.
