Mainly lot and lots of practice. Its definitely stressful but if you learn how to do tower stacks then its much easier to pull yourself out of the clutter. Overall it still extremely difficult to fight high level Tetris with puyo. But it gets easier to manage if you focus on small and well timed chains rather than really long ones.
when i play puyopuyo, i dont think, I just drop everything fast and wouldn't let anything explode while filling all the space and when everything is filled up, I cross my fingers hoping that when something explodes it will create a chain reaction.. HAHAHA!!
Dusky Shadowcoat W_f1 but at the same time, the higher your build on the board is, the more dangerous it gets, since in the Puyo screen the garbage dropship from the top. That can really mess your openings.
@@saltywater5905 nah in the manga it happened faster the build up to the fight in the anime is better imo, i love the part where everyone thinks they die by the misplaces but it's just a t-spin it's pretty cool moment
@@Pakkens_Backyard I think it's more that tetris nae naes all over puyo and getting higher chains than 4 is rng dependent, and even with the right puyos you are already covered in garbage.
The battle between a battle axe and a short sword. One does slow but massive damage while the other makes swift speedy quick blows that lead to a lot of damage over time.
Props to the Puyo player (even if they lost). They made some insane comebacks when I swore they were gonna lose. Idk how they do that, it just seems so hard to make a comeback once an opponent has ruined your board. Wombo also made an epic comeback once his board was pushed to the top and he still won, that was pretty intense!
To fight Tetris as Puyo you notice the Puyo player uses smaller chains at the right times to clear garbage and get combos going as opposed to just tryimg to set up huge chains all the time.
Amazing game. I can’t help but feel though that Tetris players have advantage though. Now hear me out, I’m not saying that Puyo players don’t beat Tetris players because they obviously have. Though for the following reasons I think they need to change SOMETHING to make it more fair for the puyo player: 1) Garbage can be used by the Tetris player. This is by far the biggest advantage I see, without doing ANY set up, and in fact having the opponent “attack” you, can net you a Tetris against themselves. Like how unfair is that. 2) Garbage spawns from top for the puyo player. This essentially can kill your set up or combo, AND it eliminates an option to put a puyo combo there, whereas in Tetris it can never disrupt your combo whether it be a tspin or Tetris 3) You’ll receive AT LEAST 1 of each Tetris piece each cycle, so you can st least somewhat predict and rely on a certain piece coming at a certain time. Whereas puyo it is all random (at least I think) Though after reading this you might say “but wh3elson he almost won look!” To the untrained eye, it does but in fact he wasn’t that close. On how attacks work in puyo he would have had to have another 2-3 combo to win, and since you can’t fast drop and the Tetris player also clears out fast enough while simultaneously sending your garbage it would be hard for a puyo player to send out another combo that quickly. Also to be fair guys, I’ve only played puyo for 30 mins, so I may be wrong about all these disadvantage but coming from a casual Tetris player I do think there’s an imbalance Edit: in addition, to the imbalance garbage is not instantly like it is in Tetris. For example, if the puyo player has a 5 combo, it has to cycle 1 by 1 until it finished the entire combo before the garbage appears unlike in tetris
The thing is, the Puyo player can blow the Tetris field off the map in one go, should the Tetris player not be fast enough to apply pressure. I got this game recently and tried the online and have won my Puyo vs Tetris fights because if the Tetris player fails to act fast enough, I'll just slam them with a 7-chain. (Puyo Pop Fever is the game the spent the most time in my Nintendo DS back in the day!) Wumbo is just so incredibly fast that I would think it would be difficult for any Puyo player to find the time to make such a chain.
@@Zeekfox So basically, at the highest levels of play, the game favors Tetris. but go down just a bit lower and Puyo can curbstomp your face if you let it.
Tetris advantages: -Can come back from pretty much any board state to re-claim full control of the board if you know what you're doing, something Puyo inherently struggles with -Garbage doesn't disrupt or break your current build other than pushing it upwards, it just forces you to start building in a different way so you can get to the garbage, the exact opposite of how garbage works in Puyo. Puyo garbage actively disrupts and breaks your build -Garbage counts as perfectly valid building blocks in Tetris, to the point where your opponent can just hand you free Tetrises, while in Puyo, garbage blocks are completely useless -Hard-drop... exists, which allows skilled players to easily outspeed Puyo. Seriously, IGN were idiots.
@@ThePoketrix I think it was pointed out that garbage can actually be incorporated in builds with Puyo. So not only are they not guaranteed to disrupt your build, they can actually be helpful, just like Tetris Garbage (even if not to the same extent).

I could possibly see myself getting this good at Tetris (yeah right), but I could never get this good at puyo. I am colorblind to the point that I cannot tell the blue from the purple puyos. I compensate some by resorting to the letter puyo skin, but It still doesn’t improve much. I really admire the skill of both of these clearly top level players and find them very fun to watch. Thank you to anyone who cared enough to read this huge block of text lol.
I personally never understood how to even do anything in Puyo. I understand how it operates, but not the ways to preform basic things. Now Tetris on the other hand.... XD
Really? If you have problems with the cones in the eyes you can get tinted glasses that block "conflicting light" so that you can increase the contrast.
Same. Tetris is a lot easier since the colours don't actually serve any real purpose except helping you know which block it is faster. Which is not to say it isn't helpful, but with Puyo Puyo, the colours play a major part in the game.
I don't think people in the comments section realize how good Wumbo is since they're somehow arguing that it's just the "tetris advantage" at high levels of play. Like I'm not sure if I'm even watching the same video as these people, Wumbo out here throwing tspin double, triples, tetris, and 5-8 hit combos just to survive and eventually win after some of the garbage drops through. Puyo definitely has a slight advantage over tetris even in high play, people just forget that it does because they're just so used to seeing tetris grandmasters destroy puyo gms.
@Oakcloud ‘ I don't play in the BR servers much. I usually play the EN2 server. It doesn't really bother me what they say. They can call me fdp and lixo when I get first all they want. Lol. They can just go pad, while I have my fun.

Just curious, why do you always play the same character? Is there a specific bonus they give to tetrises or something, or are characters just cosmetic in this game? Sorry, never played this particular game before, only TU and T99, among a few other practice clients…
Thats because puyo chains can top out a tetris player EASILY. Garbage comes from the bottom because if it were to stack on top of a tetris stack then it could lead to some tetris and tspins IMIDEATLY if the garbage is clean enough. If it comes from the bottom it's harder to clear, making the tetris player closer and closer to toping out. Because of how each game works it makes sense, the way garbage falls. The whole point of going agsint puyo isnt just to survive their large chains but to also stop it with garbage before the chains get to long for tetris to counter. Plus it's completely possible for puyo to extend a chain with garbage blocks in it. By making the garbage disappear puyos can still fall and complete the chain. Its happened multiple times in this video. The way garbage works makes complete sense.
