Crazy Town is like the Soulja Boy of Nu-Metal. It's a product of its time and doesn't hold up well even back then.

Lets be fair here; the lead vocalist's name could be dumber. It could be Shifty ShelSEEEEEEEEEEEX!

I remember reading an interview with Mike Shinoda saying he and Linkin Park never liked being associated with nu metal (and after Hybrid Theory transitioned away from the genre with their subsequent albums), and one of the reasons for that being how misogynistic it often was. Listening to Crazy Town and Limp Bizkit makes me understand where he was coming from.

I remember seeing them play Ozzfest in Indianapolis, and out of all the concerts I've attended. I've never seen a band get booed off the stage so fast in my life! I think they opened with toxic, and attempted to follow it with butterfly. The booing was so loud before toxic ended you couldn't even hear the band from the lawn 🤣

You know how awful this band is? You see the lyric about INXS in this one? A more recent song of theirs included a line that joked about Robin Williams' suicide. I swear I'm not kidding.

Ever notice how almost all nu metal bands would do that bent over stance while playing?

Oh wow, I had no idea that Butterfly was in part a sample. That explains so much and I will be honest, I have no idea who this was going to be about untill I heard the song everybody knows.

"Only when I'm drunk" is a cover song. The original version was one of my favorite songs as a kid. It was by the rap group Tha Alkaholiks. This was the rock version of it.

Geez, this freaking band... Look, I'm a huge nu-metal fan and even I couldn't remember these guys. And even if I did, I'd pull out bottles of pills to endure every track. Can't believe I'm doing this, but I'll give my thoughts on the album track by track; The intro was generic as hell and offers nothing for me to talk about, Toxic certainly lives up to its name by bringing up a dead celebrity just to sound tough, Think Fast is a mess of record scratching and stupid lyrics, Darkside already loses me with its techno vocals, Black Cloud is at least tolerable but still not a good song at all, Okay I admit that I like Butterfly as a guilty pleasure despite its lyrics yeah it's dated as hell but I can't help but listen to it as a little earworm (and perhaps this is the only song out of Crazy Town that I actually like), Only When I'm Drunk is just dumb not just the song but the title itself, Hollywood Babylon sounds really distorted despite its potential to be way better than it is, Face The Music reminds me so much of Head for the Barricade and not just for the "Stick 'Em" lyrics, Lollipop Porn is just awful both the title and the song itself, Revolving Door is at least a change from the constant vulgarity, Players (Only Love You When They're Playing) then dips the album downhill the second afterwards, B-Boy 2000 does have a decent rhythm to it and I would've liked it a bit if there were more of this over practically everything else, Outro was like a loaded gun that I'd happily point at my head to end the pain... The Gift of Game as a whole is terrible. While admittedly I still like Butterfly, it's just that everything else doesn't live to that song and practically only shoots itself in the foot with its juvenile tracks like Toxic and Only When I'm Drunk. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take a shower after feeling so dirty listening to this shit.

Fun fact : the album that came after this one (called "Darkhorse") sold only 28,000 copies worldwide (22,000 in USA), which basically explains that these guys were big solely based on Butterfly. What's actually sadder is that that album was WAY better and MUCH more mature than The Gift Of Game (especially with lyrics), but who really cared them before or after Butterfly? The saddest thing is that very talented rap-rock bands like Reveille and Nullset never had their 5 minutes of fame and nobody heard of them at all, while these guys sold over 1,500,000 records. P.S. Crazy Town is still making new music to this day and is going to release a new record by the end of this year. You have been warned.

Butterfly by Crazy Town, or as I like to say: what happens when the dumb bully from high school - you know the one that sits in the back of your geometry class and does nothing but smack gum, throw paper airplanes, and cheats and/or flunks every test - if he tried to get on stage on prom night and tried to sing some “romantic” song to get some ladies for the night. And the song goes over about as well as you’d think.

I love nu metal. But to me, Crazy Town is another one of those bands that give the genre a bad reputation. I can't blame the public for completely hating on the band for their pretentiousness and vulgarity. These guys just seemed like a band that wanted to ride the Limp Bizkit fame wagon by rapping nonsensical lines in their music. The only song I generally love from the band is "Drowning" off of their second, failed-attempt-at-rekindling-popularity-from-their-first-release-effort album, "Dark Horse". I'm torn in between on "Butterfly" though.

Todd In The Shadows did a one hit wonder video on Butterfly/Crazy Town that you'd probably enjoy as well.

It's like if you lobotomized Fred Durst and fed him all of Wes Scantlin's drugs and booze.

I'd rather hear Fred Durst whining over this. At least the musicians, guitars AND drums of Limp Bizkit have TALENT.

Ah, Crazy Town. It's been a long time since I've heard about these guys. The nu-metal genre has never really been my scene, but I occasionally listen to bands such as Linkin Park and System of a Down, but Crazy Town? Eh... Well, as I promised, I'm going track by track to see my thoughts on the entire album: Intro/Outro: About as memorable as the Chocolate Starfish Intro, completely forgettable. Toxic: Has energy, but those lyrics regarding INXS was uncool, not that the songwriting in the rest of the song was any better... Think Fast: Distorted instrumentals and whiny lyrics. That's it. Darkside: The robot vocals feel jarring and the song has a messy flow to it. Black Cloud: It's definitely an improvement, but not by much. Butterfly: Definitely the best song out of the entire album, bar none. Even with the creepy lyrics and the fact that it's literally a sample of Red Hot Chili Peppers, it's at least memorable and a little catchy. Only When I'm Drunk: This is where it all goes downhill... Hollywood Babylon: Could've been better, but overall ends up as wasted potential. Face The Music: It's just plain bad. The instrumentals are basic and the songwriting is disgusting. Lollipop Porn: Laughable. Can't believe they named a song like that. Revolving Door: It's a nice change from the constant profanity, tough guy bragging, and distorted instrumentals. Players (Only Love You When They're Playing): This feels like a nu-metal attempt at being R&B but with "fuck" lyrics. B-Boy 2000: Another mercifully decent song from the album. Not great, but it's at least catchy and quite a headbanger. Overall, The Gift of Game is a dirty trick of an album. Three out of 14 songs isn't a good offer, no matter how much you spend on the CD. For every bright spot there's a fart noise that brings everything down. Oh, and one more thing; Most Favorite: Butterfly, Revolving Door, B-Boy 2000 Least Favorite: Everything Else Bottom line: 2/10 Not Worth Listening To Again

Yeah, I don't really remember anything out of this band apart from Butterfly. They're a real flash in the pan.

Funny enough, in a box in my basement is where this album is. I went to their concert once, to see the opener (The Union Underground, an underrated, one-album band), and walked out when Crazy Town took the stage. All three of us.

"Remember that song Butterfly?" "The one by Everlast?" "No, he did What It's Like." "Oh, was it by Paul Oakenfold?" "No, that's the guy that did Starry Eyed Surprise. Crazy Town did Butterfly." "I thought Crazy Town did I Could Never Be Your Woman." "No, that's White Town." "Then who did Sex and Candy?" "I have no idea." "How bizarre." "OMC" "THIRD BASE!" "Pop Goes the Weasel."

I like how being heavy was hip back then and every band was doing it. Wish it was still like that.

Does anyone remember when Sugar Ray use to be the same thing as Crazy Town? Their song "Fly" was a reggae styled song that got them really big and all? Well if you listened to the rest of the album that song was on (Floored), that was a nu metal album.

I come back to this video every now and then to check for this, and I still can't find any comments about 'Darkside' being played on the radio.

I might be wrong on this and I tried to Google this but if my memory is correct. Crazy Town went on tour with Ozzy Osbourne once and Ozzy and Sharon said that the guys in Crazy town were too messed up on drugs. When Ozzy himself says you're too far gone.

The best thing to come out of Crazy Town was pre)Thing, a band formed by their guitarist, Rust Epique. Sadly, he died of a heart attack a month before their debut album came out.

Not even gonna lie, I like Nu Metal. If I could go back in time, I'd go to around 1992 so I could not only get to get to witness the birth of Nu Metal, but also get to enjoy some grunge ;) (Sidenote: Sorry for all the comments on this Video.)

Upon finding out about the RHCP sample, I was awaiting some soul-crushing revelation that The Gift of Game outsold the Chili Peppers' Californication or something to that effect... It hasn't (whew!). Thank you, humanity.

I admittedly never really heard much of Crazy Town, apart from Butterfly. Yeah, it's cheesy but it's easily their best song and I feel no shame in admitting that I like that song. And to a lesser extent, Darkside and B-Boy 2000.

Their second album Dark Horse (not the Nickelback one but just as bad) was basically if Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park was made by a bunch of try hard's that just wanted to make a quick buck.

I believe the correct term is “gimmick” not “scam” cuz they tried to push one track to reach the top. So even if the rest of the tracks were under appreciated, at least you get to keep listening to the same track over and over.

DARKSIDE was the first Crazy Town song I heard, both on 89X in Detroit, and also on MTV.

I'm glad I lived under a rock and never heard of Crazy Town. On another note, Butterfly is a guilty pleasure, even if it's just Pretty Little Ditty helping it be good.

You know those Lisa Frank folders that you saw in school? The album cover for this looks like the edgy version of that.

Ok, here is my take on this hysterically awful dumpster fire. 1. They song is hella toxic, because they trash on INXS. I feel like Michael Hutchence is rolling in his grave after they crapped on his career after he hit the sack permanently. 2. Oh my god, I better "think fast" before I hear this again. And "Sheila is too bony" feels like something... 3. Holy Crap, the robot effects are cheesy as hell! The guitars are just acidic noise that sounds like they are NIN wannabes. 4. Ok, the lyrics are good. But the chorus is a broken nursery rhyme on RU-vid young kids would be forced watch during school. 5. This song isn't bad, but I don't like it. Because not my cup of tea I guess. 6. I would hear this when I'm drunk, but I'm never drinking as long as I live. 7. This is the metal version of Shaggy's Mr. Boombastic rhythmically. Plus, Malcom Ray did a awesome job with the girls voice. 8. All I hear is "Stick em" and "B*tch". It sounds like 14 year old edgelords desperate for shock value. 9. Ok, no more lollipops for me anymore. This song ruined everything a child stood for and will... Holy Crap... 10. Another song with good lyrics. It's deep that he raps about his failed relationships. This is stuff I would listen to if this album had more of this also with better lyrics like Black Cloud. 11. I agree Luke, I hate everything because my innocence got assassinated. 12. Another NIN wannabe track, but its better sounding than Darkside. (intro and outro not included cuz they sound like samples from real movies) Uh huh, this album sucked and is worth regretting if anyone has the album. I'm just gonna go and listen to RHCP. Their writing style may be sexually inspired but its done well and charismatic.

The biggest offense CT made was covering 'New Noise' by Refused. I remember seeing them at Ozzfest 2001. Worst live band I've ever seen, & I've got almost 30 yrs of experience. Both vocalists sounded absolutely awful (& notice they're missing from the commemorative album, despite being on the main stage)

I never bought a Limp Bizkit or Crazy Town album, but those So Fresh compilation CDs from the early 2000s share some of the blame.

Over the past 15 years, I haven’t thought about Sam Goodies ONCE until you just mentioned it now.

These songs physically hurt to listen to. And I'm just listening to snippets, I feel bad for you for having to listen to the whole thing, Luke. Also, I think I'm one of the few who remembers Adema. But only because a lot of AMVs used their songs years back.

I never heard that "Dark side" song, but I heard that "toxic" song on a local Florida station, and, I had a friend who liked it... he's one of those guys that still listens to kid rock and nickelback...

God, I remember when Crazy Town played Ozzfest back in the day and they were on the main stage along with Black Label Society, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and Black Sabbath. They literally tried to play every song harder during their set, including Butterfly. ...yes a Butterfly played harder sounds exactly as bad as you'd imagine it would. They were definitely the weakest band on the main stage by a long shot. Linkin Park got a little cringy with Chester dropping F-bombs every other word (mind you, this was around the time Hybrid Theory was gaining traction... you know, where they didn't swear at all?)... Papa Roach was surprisingly competent, though.

I find it funny in the music video to Butterfly that one of the members is wearing a D.A.R.E. shirt when most of the members (Especially Shifty) were drug users.

I decided to give this album a listen and on Spotify they only have the clean version available so instead of hearing swear words you just hear a bunch of turntable scratches over them
