Have one too. Did all the Tiny Machine upgrades (BL Touch) and firmware. I’m battling some random under extrusion issues so I think it’s time to junk the stock hit end and go direct drive
I've had this printer for over 2 years. The OEM glass is not completely flat. The OEM heat pad takes forever to heat up. I had a large mirror I cut to size, I installed a silicone heated bed (heats up to 60C in about 1 minute), installed a Capricorn bowden tube, an EZABL, and a Bondtech extruder.
I put together an S4 a few months ago and its been a workhorse. An S4 would probably run okay stock but a few inexpensive (or free) upgrades really helps it perform well. TH3D Unified works great on Creality 8 bit boards and a metal extruder and Capricorn tubing are always good additions to any Creality printer. Advice for anyone considering an S4: You'll need a LOT of room behind it. That big bed goes back pretty far and you still need clearance for the bed cable. I've got mine on a 3'x3' table and wouldn't want to put it on anything smaller. Good content as always.
Biggest upgrade I made to my S4 was the 120V AC powered bed heater. Get one of those with a quality solid state relay and it takes less than a minute to reach 60 C and probably right at a minute to get to 110 C. I have this printer inside an enclosure and it prints ABS no problem with that AC powered heater.
I'M really digging your editing style. The quality of your videos is almost as good as your painting skills 😀 The time lapses were super satisfying. Who else thought the song for the build time lapses was "Eye of the Tiger" when it started??
It's neat to see different sizes of printers. I liked the build time-lapse too. I'm looking forward to seeing what you use such a large build space to make. A few items at once, lots of small items, or 1 big thing. I'm curious how it turns out for you. Thanks for sharing and keep it up!
Great Video That printer was Nikko's go to printer but he may have changed to a new one it's been a while! If I go bigger that's my next printer I have a CR-10 V2 right now!
Hey Frank, Great video. Almost pulled the trigger on an S4... but went with Ender 5 Plus. Oh... the firmware link in the description is just an ad for Creality...
Honest question. Looking to buy a filament and a resin printer... First time. Running DND, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Why would I buy a printer that "needs" so many upgrades to be the ideal printer. My buddy is offering his cr10s4 for $500 with these upgrades. Super tempted. But also I could just buy a smaller filaprinter from anycubic for cheaper. But also... The size is tempting for a few scenes I have in mind lol
I had no idea about baby Z steps, thats awesome. I have the S4 and love it. Printing a full size Samus helmet on it now. Only draw back is its not as common so any add-ons are harder to find or need adjustments. It will be great to see how you use it.
This was my very first printer and I am printing my MK85 suit on this printer. Love the build volume and print quality. BTW, Firmware Flashing video link is not working. I need to upgrade my printer really bad.
Quick question if that's OK, when you was living here in Old blighty what filler primer did you use please, and where did u get it from (oops that's 2 questions)
Frank just so you know your links are incorrect for How to Flash Firmware (shows the cr 10 smart, and link for level bed is Tips & Tricks for the Perfect First Layer! - Part 4.
Frank, I have a question for you. I have had a CR 10S4 for e few years now, and I am looking to replace my entire hot end (thermistor, heat sink, heater block). When replacing a thermistor on a different unit, I accidentally got the wrong volt/wattage. I got a 12v/40watt when I needed a 24v unit. Do you know what the CR 10S4 takes? I have searched for specs online, but am coming up empty. Just wondering if you happened to know. Thanks for your many useful videos.
I know this is an older video, but do you prefer this over the Elegoos? I want a bigger printer but trying to decide if I should go with this or the Neptune 3 Max. Your input on this would help. Thanks!
Bought this printer 2 years ago. I like but the only frustrating thing about it is the filament sensor, they wear out incredibly fast, resulting the printer to keep pausing while doing prints. :( I've had to replace it multiple times.
Did you changed the mainboard ? Your CR10S4 is so quiet.... We also got an used CR10S4 and the stepper drivers are louder than an old 56k modem.. It's not fun using the printer, the results are great but the neighbours already complained about the noise.. Now i'm not sure if i can just swap the board with an SKR mini etc or an cheap Aliexpress Board with silent steppers
