Cream - N.S.U. live at Royal Albert Hall, London.
May 2, 3, 5, 6. 1080p
6 of 22
In May of 2005 Cream returned to London's Royal Albert Hall-to the same stage where they had completed what was thought to be their final performance in 1968. It was one of the most eagerly anticipated, hard-to-get tickets in rock history. With the exception of a brief reunion set at their 1993 induction into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame, Cream had not played together in nearly four decades. This DVD documents Cream's momentous London shows. Performances from each of the four nights are featured and much more. Also included are alternate performances and interviews with Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, and Eric Clapton. Cream formed in 1966 and disbanded in 1968. The band were a prolific and thrilling live act and toured incessantly in their short but remarkable history.

Agreed, now imagine if Fender hadn't underwritten the cost for this tour, Clapton could have used the Gibson with Marshall Stax, like they did in rehearsal and blown the roof of of RAH.
@Claymor621
@Claymor621 6 лет назад
Is that the real reason? I thought they tried in rehearsal and didn't think it was working. I was disappointed at first they hadn't used the old gear on maybe one number but this sound has grown on me. Stormy Monday from these concerts is an epic sound.
@ricklewis5804
@ricklewis5804 5 лет назад
justafanintexas Why didn’t Fender insist that JB play one or more of their bass guitars? Eric could play an old used $700 guitar and make it sound great. The talent is in the player not the instrument

Rick Lewis - Because Clapton was the executive producer of the show, sought the sponsorship and was under their thumb.

Claymor - My company handled the sound for the RAH and MSG shows and during rehearsal Clapton broke out the Gibson and Marshalls. First rehearsed tune was Crossroads and the room exploded upon completion. Then the Fender people stepped in and put the kybosh on it.

What makes Ginger Baker such a great drummer is that he can keep that beat going with amazing time, flow and smoothness, and not overpower the song. As a drummer that is super difficukt to do, and every drummer would tell you the same thing.

So we all have different tastes, yes. For some odd reason, this is my favorite performance from the 2005 reunion concerts; kind of a slight song, I always thought, but over the 6 minutes the trio throws down as hard as I ever heard them do; and I think EC absolutely rips on an unusually restrained and tasteful solo, in the midst of that intricate trio jam. They don't make 'em like this no more. RIP Jack.

Each one of them was amazing but I keep coming back to Ginger Baker. I have honestly never heard anyone play like him in the last 50 years and I've seen a lot of groups. Even when he is laying back he is always right there. He is the first one to use multiple bass drums I think. He doesn't just play the beat, he plays his drums like they are another guitar or bass or something. Hard to put into words.

I saw them at the Whiskey in 1967. I was visiting my sister in Huntington Beach and I saw that Cream was going to be playing. So I went and I think it was $3 cover charge with a two-drink minimum. I was smoking some prime cannabis and taking acid and while we were out back smoking Jack came out and took a toke. He was really cool and didn't act like a big star or anything. The thing that was always confusing to me was the very beginning of the song. I think it starts out in 5/4 timing and then moves to 4/4. It's hard to tell. Yes, Ginger was absolutely incredible on drums and it was hard to take your eyes off him to look at Eric and Jack. But they were all consummate professionals on their individual instruments. I've seen "Beware Mr. Baker" and I've read his book. Ginger was a terrible person to those around him but he lived for the drums. I've seen a lot of bands in my 70 years but I've never seen a better drummer than Ginger. He pounded on those drums like he was in Africa (where he studied). I think Ginger was capable of playing the drums for 24 hours straight.

The Meaning Behind The Song: N.S.U. by Cream N.S.U. is a rock song by the British band Cream, appearing on their 1966 album, “Fresh Cream.” Although the song may seem like a simple and catchy tune at first listen, it holds deeper meaning and is often regarded as a blues-rock anthem. N.S.U. is an abbreviation for the phrase “non-specific urethritis,” a medical condition that Eric Clapton, the iconic guitarist and member of Cream, had experienced. What led to the creation of N.S.U.? N.S.U. was written by Eric Clapton during his time with the Yardbirds, a band he was a part of before joining Cream. Clapton had contracted a sexually transmitted infection, which caused him to endure the painful condition of non-specific urethritis. This difficult personal experience served as the inspiration for the song, allowing Clapton to pour his emotions into his music. Exploring the lyrics and themes The lyrics of N.S.U. reflect Clapton’s frustration and pain caused by his physical ailment. The song opens with the line, “Driving in my car, smoking my cigar,” which hints at Clapton’s attempt to find temporary solace or escape from his troubles. The catchy chorus repeats the phrase “I won’t let the same dog bite me twice,” suggesting Clapton’s determination not to let his past mistakes or hardships affect him again. In addition to the personal meaning behind the song, N.S.U. also showcases Cream’s signature blues-rock sound. The instrumental sections allow each band member to showcase their excellent musicianship, with Clapton’s fiery guitar solos being a highlight. The raw and powerful energy of the music complements the emotional lyrics, creating a dynamic and captivating listening experience.
