What I like about this film is that Katey (Lauri Peters) has braces, and isn't portrayed as a stereotypical awkward nerd! I mean, she's a very relatable character, who ends up with the hot guy (Fabian, as shown here), and she is a good-looking individual herself! When I first saw this film as a teenager (when I had braces), it gave me confidence to see that Katey had braces like myself, and wasn't even treated like a nerd in the film! I wish they had more of a positive representation of characters with braces in the media like this!
Fabian [in his youth] looking rather handsome and sweet Lauri Peters, was one actress, who never seemed to lose her charm. A living, breathing doll - the real homespun type!
It's all portrayed as so happy and picturesque, but was it really? Glad I didn't live in this time because I would've been considered a true misfit. I haven't been able to live up to the standards of what normal is in this time, I would've been considered really abnormal in that time. Thank God I was born much later. I probably would've been put in a mega mental institution, even though I'm not crazy. I'm just depressed. But there was so little understanding of depression at this time. It would've been even harder for me to fit in at this time.
