Someone had probably already said this, but in Photoshop, in the "Layers" panel, in the box that says "Normal" by default, click the down arrow and choose "Darker Color" and all the white will go away. In some instances, particularly with colorful backgrounds, "Multiply" may work better. Thanks for the videos :)

Thanks for the info. I had this happen to me also. I bought an interior that was word and PDF. Vector programs like Adobe illustrator open PDF as vectors. The PDF was not the original. It was a PDF with a picture pasted into it. Very deceptive. Adobe illustrator is too expensive. I use Affinity Designer. It's the same as Illustrator. Even the layout is the same and I paid lest than 30 dollars for it. It's not a subscription. One time cost. That May change in the future. Right now it's a very inexpensive and very powerful program. Creating interiors with Affinity Designer is as easy as using word. Using Affinity Designer I very quickly created a copy of the picture on top of it and deleted the picture. Then I was able to edit it any way I liked.

If you have a B/W image.... use a color mode to remove the background.... Select the layer, Change “Normal” to “Screen” or “Multiply” (in your Layers pallet)....

Love your videos, thank you so much. Do you know if there are any direct to print platforms that offer a spiral binding option? To remove the white behind all the little bits of the dandelion you go to selection, select by color, use the dropper tool to select the white, then adjest the selection radius. I prefer to select the black, then copy it and paste it on a new layer so I don't destroy the original image (this is off the top of my head so it may not be fully accurate). Good luck!!

And now for those pages you think are not editable. Create PDF file from Word, of only the page you want to edit. From the file browser, drag the pdf to Photoshop, a dialog window should appear, allowing you to opt in on a few import options, open file and save a copy to PSD format. Create a new layer, and cover up existing elements with a white fill, this preserves the existing elements while you figure out what you want in terms of fonts, other graphic elements on the page. Once you get the page redesigned to your plan, save a copy as a PSD, with the live text, and save a flattened version for your publication. The PSD will serve as a template going forward, if you want to use that page layout again. And if you use it again, save a PSD for each use. Once it's flattened, you have to start over with the editing process if there's something you want to remove or rearrange.

Layer blend modes can take care of the white spots in an image that you want to remove.

Regarding the quotes, legally they are considered the person's intellectual property and are protected by copyright by default. Unless the person the quote comes from has died 70 years prior, it is not advisable to use the quotes without written permission of the famous person that uttered it. It is better not to use them just to be on the safe side.

Exactly. I make up my own positive affirmations and i always check to make sure no one has made up or used the affirmation before. I do not use any quotes from anyone alive or dead.

I appreciate that your videos are so comprehensive. I find them very helpful and enjoyable to watch. There is only one thing in the video that I wasn't quite sure about. You included a "Copyright, all rights reserved" type of message in the book 4:54 That's something I've been wondering about, because I've seen it used in a couple of other videos that demonstrate how to create low content books, but not all of them include this. When creating low content or no content books, is it necessary to include a message about copyright inside the book? Do we even have to mention our author name in these books? I know that author names and copyright statements are included in high content books, but I'm not sure how common it is for them to be added to low content books. I can imagine that they wouldn't be preferable at all if it's a really simple book like a composition notebook. Gratitude journals are a little more complex though, so maybe things would be a bit different with them.

Thank you 😄 The copyright message in this particular was already there as part of the interior but I do usually include them in books that have more unique interiors. You're right, it's not a big deal to include them or author names in things like notebooks but if you create something that's more detailed and unique then most people include a copyright page.

No, it's not required as part of the license, unless you use the free images then I believe you will have to do that.

Thanks a million for your time and information. I have a question are log books two sided print or are the pages blank on the opposite side. I'm try to figure out do I need to do 200 pages which then be listed as a 100 page book or do I just create a 100 page book and it will list a 100 pages?

If you create a 100 page book, this is both side of the page printed. So creating a 100 page book is 50 sheets of paper printed both sides - does that make sense? If you want 100 sheets of paper in your book then your page count would be 200.

Log books are two-sided print. There are few times where you would only want to print on one side of a paper and that would be for adult coloring books or blank comic books. It's to allow for bleed-thru from coloring with markers.

How do you edit the margins? How do you know the right size? Also I thought the page count has to be multiple with 4...?

In the case of using a pre-made template, the margins are already set so you don't have to do anything there. If you want to know what your margins should be, you can get that info from the KDP website. The page count can be whatever you want it to be.

1. You would need to check that they are or aren't trademarked but copyright law says that you can't copyright words or short phrases. 2. You'd need to pull up the cover template and position it so it's in the center of the front cover area according to the KDP cover template.

I'm having a problem getting an interior I purchased from Creative Fabrica into my Book Bolt software program. The file is now in my download folder but I am having trouble figuring out how to import, upload, or whatever the term is, into my Boo Bolt program. Any info on the steps involved would be appreciated. I am not yet ready to start learning how to modify these interiors using word, photo shop, etc. Thank you for all the great content!

You're welcome 😀 You can't use Book Bolt to import external documents (as far as I'm aware), you can only use the interiors within Book Bolt.

Book Bolt's interiors are pretty basic if that's what you're looking for but if you want things that are more complex or detailed then creative fabrica is better.

Are the quotes protected by copyright? It’s quite a minefield knowing what is safe to use and what could potentially get you into trouble. There are many wonderful quotes that I’d like to include when creating but not sure of copyrighter infringement issues. I have read some copyright documents and it appears that if you haven’t created it then it needs permission. Any hints and tips as you were quick finding your quotes. Thank you

Short phrases and words can't be copyrighted. They can be trademarked though so that's something to check.

Do KDP books appear in Amazon search with all other books? I saw the same journal listed many times but just in different colors. Is that ok? Also would it be allowed to use the same cover design the only difference being the title wording? For example creating a matching “set” of books like a Gratitude Journal, a Notebook, a sketch book. And if that is allowed is there an option to sell them as a set? Thanks so much for your help. Your videos are nice and easy to follow.

Yes, they appear in the search with all other books. It's okay to list the same book with different colours. You just want to make sure you are creating quality covers and not just spamming with lots of low quality books that in the end no one is going to buy anyway. Yes, you can create the same book with different titles but when publishing through KDP you won't be able to list them under one listing as a "set". You could maybe put in your description of each that there are other books in this "series" and maybe customers will go find and purchase the the other books in the set as well. But to sell as an actual set you would have to print the books yourself, then list them as a set (under one listing) on Amazon through a seller central account. Hope that makes sense. Its ok to use short quotes or phrases, but also check they aren't trademarked because copyright and trademark are different things.

No, I don't think it's totally necessary but I guess it just make the book look like it has formal copyright for it. All books have it which is why most people add it to their low content books. I personally wouldn't add it to very basic books likes notebook or journal but things with more unique interiors, like colouring books or activity books I would add it.

When you use pre-made interiors the margins are already set. If you are making your interior from scratch, you can find all the margins you need depending on your book size on the KDP website.
