When I was relaxed I never got single strand knots. I never knew they were a thing until I went natural. I have real undeniable fine 4c hair but since I've been blow drying it instead of leaving it shrunken the knots have reduced a lot and they're mostly on my ends that were previously loc'd. I combed out my locs in 2020.

My hair was severely damaged and unhealthy and it just wasn't growing because it was relaxed. So I went natural ,best choice I ever made.

Thats why i go to a professional who bases the scalp first before putting relaxer on. I dont do it at home by myself.

It’s honestly just too difficult to try and avoid getting relaxer on the scalp, especially during the smoothing phase. That’s why relaxers should be banned all together. That’s why I love keratin treatments. My hair has lots of body and shine and defies frizzy and reversion when straightened. And keratin makes the hair stronger, which leads to less breakage = more length retention

I totally agree! That is probably why keratin is the most popular hair straightening choice for Latina women (although it is temporary). Unfortunately, there are a couple of things stopping in-salon Keratin treatments from being the preference: 1: High cost- The curlier the hair, the higher the initial application fee will be. Some of the women reaching out to us are afraid to invest hundreds of dollars for the initial treatment. So, they rather play it safe by getting a cheaper option at home. 2: Lack of representation- Not enough black hairstylists in The States and other countries worldwide offer these services. I don't blame them either, because they have to buy the product in large quantities in hopes of getting a return on their investment. Thus, many hairstylists will not choose to offer a treatment that is not popular. This forces many black women to have to seek out help outside their comfort zone (they are forced to seek help outside their race or with people who are not familiar with coily hair). Many will just decide to go with the simpler option, which to them is relaxing. I will do a story time later on my experiences of navigating white salons when initially starting my heat training journey, boy was that something! There are also other reasons, but I am going to stop here! I don't want to type y'all to death! Thanks for commenting, sharing, and watching!

Yup, hair botox/texture release too. I love it and now do my roots at home. perfect for my high porosity hair. I'm finally no longer a slave to humidity.

Im texlax/texturised It defiantly helps with single stands knots. My natural hair would curl onto its self to create knots, including single stand knots. Loosening my curl pattern has definitely helped since my coils are less tight.

I've been relaxed 19 years now I believe.. If never ever got scout Burns chemical Burns Burns or my hair came out.. If you don't take care of hair. No matter what state is in it's going to come out especially when it comes to products if you're using products that are chemically unsafe.. That can cause cancer or thyroids that will really take your hair out.. I love my relaxed hair I get a relaxer twice out the year now I'm aiming for getting one once a year because the products that I use really protects my hair and I can manage my new growth.. Never got single straight knots :) This video was bomb thank you ever kindly God-bless you🙏🏽💕🌺

I cannot in good conscience defend relaxers. However, I will not besmirch the women who choose to use them. ❤

And YES to using things to your advantage/embracing your texture.That’s why I love flexi rod sets because it showcases the STRENGTHS of what my hair type can do. Curls, volume, and body are where OUR hair excels. White women’s hair strengths are sleekness, straightness, and flow. We all need to exploit the things our hair CAN do. The path of least resistance is always the best.

Great video! I went back to relaxers a few weeks ago and honestly it was the best decision for me. No single strand knots. Oddly enough it takes me a fraction of the time to do my hair. I was scared to do it because the natural hair community/movement has developed a cult following but I waited until I was strong enough to tell others to “mind their own”. I was suggested protective styles, locs, and other chemicals services but none of those were the right decisions for me. Combed out my locs because I didn’t like them, tired of constantly protecting my hair and not enjoying it, and other chemicals services are just as dangerous but we haven’t discovered that yet as a collective. Natural hair products are also dangerous but we haven’t talked about that either. Self hater, traitor, or whatever backhanded names people come up with i’m a happy one!

How are people preventing the burning of their scalp when they get relaxers?
@annie6891

I never got burns when I used a relaxer and I used to scratch. I would try to reduce scratching in the days leading up to it and used Vaseline on my edges and I was fine.

Hello! I am just reporting on the final verdict (In the court of online public hair opinion) about this topic. Many might be surprised but nothing is dissuading black women from using relaxers and other hair straightening products (yes, even the fact that there is exposure to harmful chemicals). From what I can see on social media, Straight hair will become more mainstream, and the industry will HAVE to make space for this growing community. In the future decade, there will be a good mix of both natural girls as well as straight hair girls (Women who both permanently straighten and temporarily straighten their hair). As for the burning of the scalp, I (Musu) am heat trained and although heat training has some similarities to relaxed hair care, it is not the same. I do not know enough about relaxed hair to comment. Women who are relaxed, could you please help out with this question? Thank you! Feel free to follow many of the amazing women featured in this video as a reference as well. These women have inches! Thanks for commenting and stopping by!

I never got a relaxer burn I've been relaxed since 2003 what I do is coat my scalp very well with Vaseline.. And I only apply the relaxer on the new growth that's it I never ever got a relaxer burn this is how it's prevented when I do it

When I relaxed, my scalp was highly prone to scalp burns. It didn't matter if I slugged my scalp with Vaseline, no scratching for days, no water on scalp, etc... I always got them. I have dry scalp and it doesn't like certain products, perms being #1.

I relax my hair twice a year, I have not had a burn since I stopped relaxing myself. Back in high school and colIege I relaxed whenever my roots started to show. Then I wore weaves for a decade while modeling and got traction alopecia and lost almost two inches off my perimeter. After that I saw a trichologist and we went to strengthening and getting my hair and scalp healthy. That got me to 4 relaxers a year and ten years later I am peeking at waist length and relaxing twice a year which allows me to maintain my hair. I do not flatiron my air but rollerset and dry under a bonnet. The funny thing is that the ingredients for relaxers are the same chemically as those for perming of Caucasian hair, they just add perm rods but yet we do not see any PSA about that. As black women we need to understand when misinformation is being fed to us. Why would any study be done on something that affects so small a number of the population? When lupus and other predominantly black illnesses are underfunded and barely understood? But a hair straightening technique is going to have the scientists running to the lab? We are too quick to swallow everything that is fed us. If these products were so dangerous considering the number of Caucasians that get perms the FDA would have acted long before now. I am not saying relaxers or perms are good for you, just like hair bleaching/coloring, flat irons, keratin treatments, artificial nails of all types, etc. The phrase beauty is pain is quite true. I am saying that if they were causing cancer, it would not be the health of black women that would be the catalyst in removing them.

Relaxers have been linked to estrogen receptive breast cancer, uterine cancer, and fibroids. It's not fake news. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 ER+ IDC ( Breast Cancer) at 29 and have done extensive research on estrogen (hormone) disruptors and carcinogens. Relaxers are TOXIC like many other things in this world. People should be aware of the risks when making a decision just like with alcohol or smoking.
@shiek735

I 100% agree with you. I also believe their saying that it causes cancer because the natural hair movement is dying and a lot of women are getting relaxers. To care for relaxed hair is honestly inexpensive. These companies are loosing money capitalizing off of black womens natural hair.
