This is one of the best shotcut tutorials I've seen, no stalling, no asking for likes and subscribers, and just gets straight to the point and point out every button. before I was doing it the hard way on shotcut, but this is gonna make my fanfic stories a lot more easier to produce, I wish there were more transitions like a horizontal flip transition, but either way, great video!

@Graphicious
@Graphicious 2 года назад
I haven't tried JFIFs, and I don't think you need to compress the images first. Maybe if your computer has trouble playing them in Shotcut, could do with a resize but I like to have mine at the highest quality. When you export your video, they get resampled to the video size anyway. And Shotcut doesn't add watermarks or ads, it's a free, open source app.

This works great! Question: my photos will have varying aspect ratios and it is resulting in the tops of heads being cropped off on some photos. Any suggestions on an easy fix for this that I can apply to lots of photos to try to take care of most of them in one fix? Then I'm sure I might just need to eliminate the ones that are difficult to fix since I'm dealing with hundreds of photos.
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 3 месяца назад
I don't think Shotcut has any more options for customising the look apart from what you see in the slideshow dialog. It would probably either be manual OR fix the image aspect ratios externally before bringing them into your slideshow. Lots of tools out there that do automated cropping or resizing.
@TheMadisonReport

@@Graphicious - thanks! I played around with IrfanView since that's what I am familiar with. They do have a batch conversion feature. It works but not well, unless I just haven't figure out the right settings. I think what I really need to do is just do something with the portrait photos to turn them into landscape with black boxes on either side. Then I don't have to worry about an auto-crop cropping something incorrectly with varying photos. Now I need to figure that out.

@@Graphicious - I found a solution in IrfanView in the Advanced settings of Batch Conversion. The option is to change Canvas Size and I added a left and right border that was 1500 pixels each. Explanation of important details not mentioned in other tutorials. I still have an important question: How do you proceed if you have added photos using the "Add to slide show" function and subsequently edit them (e.g. change the display duration, transitions or dynamic zoom of individual images, etc.) or new source material (photos or videos) between those already in the timeline want to insert existing photos? All my attempts in this regard have so far caused chaos in the course of the video editing.

@Graphicious
@Graphicious Год назад
Thanks! I haven't tried to push the limits on how many images you can use, but I guess it would be something up to the power of your computer. I assume the more you add, the harder it's going to have to work to compose that sequence for you. As far as DVD export, in the Export dialog there are several DVD export options for video, PAL, NTSC, etc. and those will create a VOB for you, which you'd have to burn to DVD using a DVD burn tool for finalize it.

Thank you! I have not used kinemaster before but it seems to me like you are doing much more work than you should. I don't think video editing is optimal on a phone. I found the MED sport channel and it seems that their videos are mostly a bunch of slideshows with various transitions, plus some intro animation and overlay text at the beginning. I think you can achieve similar stuff with the details in my video, for Shotcut, using the automated slideshow. You can also create them manually, of course. Is there a way to change the defaults on the slideshow settings so I don't need to keep changing them every time I add another batch of photos? (duration, transition, etc.) With hundreds of photos, Shotcut can't handle that many at once without crashing and I'd like to be able to add to the slideshow in batches as I go anyway. Thanks for the help!
@TheMadisonReport
@TheMadisonReport 3 месяца назад
OK, I figured it out. Sharing here. It is critical that if you have photos that are different aspect ratio than what shows on the screen, that you fix this BEFORE building a slideshow. Once you bring the photos in, it's too late. Even landscape photos can be the wrong aspect ratio, depending on the camera used. For mine, the digital camera I was using was 16 to 12. To set this, it's in Settings, Video Mode, Custom and then type in the resolution and aspect ratio for the photos you are bringing in. Then I think that if you switch to different photos with different aspect ratio, you can then switch again (like when my photos switched from a digital camera to a smart phone). This still won't fix the problem of portrait vs. landscape photos. That requires adding a border or something to compensate. My fix is that I'm just avoiding the few portrait photos I have whenever possible. And then fixing the ones I really want.
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 3 месяца назад
Sounds like a good workaround but you still have to pay attention to the images you bring in. While defaults cannot be set on this tool, I always make sure that the photos I bring in are in the 'acceptable' range for the final slideshow I try to produce.
@lesliebeck8382
@lesliebeck8382 3 месяца назад
@@Graphicious - absolutely. Getting them in that acceptable range in another tool like Irfanview is a lot easier than trying to fix it in shotcut. Then shotcut works wonderfully for pulling it all together in a slideshow. I just wish it wouldn't crash on me so often. I save often to avoid heartache.
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 3 месяца назад
Good idea. It can be a bit glitchy at times. It might have a memory leak or something like that, which becomes more apparent when you use a lot of images.

i want to play the entire audio clip and have the slide show end at the same time.
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 2 года назад
You have to count how many slides you have in your slideshow, and then divide the length of the audio (in seconds) by that number. This will tell you how many seconds you need to make each slide. Choose that when you create the slideshow and done! That's assuming you want each slide to stay on the screen for the same amount of time. But you can also drag to expand/reduce the time for each slide after.
@micridg
@micridg 2 года назад
Hi, Is there a slideshow maker that can CONTINUOUSLY RANDOMISE a set of slides on a continuously repeating loop, without repeating a randomised order. So what I want is a continuously repeating loop that doesn't repeat the randomised order, but instead continuously randomises the photo sequence for as long as the program runs. I.e. One hour - 20 hours or whatever! If you can let me know of a slideshow maker that can do this or otherwise let me know how I can achieve this effect, I will be very grateful. Thanks, Michael
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 2 года назад
I think you are looking at a tool that just takes a folder of photos and runs a slideshow on them plus put some music in the background, if that's what you want. I think even the basic Windows Photo viewer can do a slideshow like that with a random order.
@micridg
@micridg 2 года назад
@@Graphicious Hi, thanks so much, but I don't just want a random order that can be repeated in a loop. I.e I select random and I am given a random order for my photos. I then select loop which will repeat the same random order over and over again for as long as I want. I DONT WANT THAT! What I want is a random order that continuously remains random and unpredictable for an indefinitely long period. I want to be able to run the slide show for any length of time and for the photos to appear in a continuously changing sequence that doesn't repeat a previous sequence for as long as I run the show, which could be any length of time at all. How can you have the slideshow and audio be the same length of time?
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 2 года назад
I'd imagine you have to calculate in number of seconds, your audio file and set the image duration (in the Clip duration field) to be those seconds, divided by the number of images.

This all sound good but every time I try to do it it never comes out(music is the most difficult part for me ) the way I would like for it to. Would you do a video on how to collect pictures from different sources and bring together to create a slide show. I am trying to get pictures from my I-phone and put them all in one place.(tablet). @Graphicious 2 года назад
Hi, sorry it's not working out. What do you mean by 'the way you would like it to'? Shotcut doesn't work on a tablet. I don't understand exactly where you are struggling. Is it the slideshow doesn't get produced? Does it not play? Maybe iPhone photos should be resized first, if they are too large, or converted to JPEGs. I don't know if Shotcut supports the high quality photo format that iPhone produces by default.

@@Graphicious I was trying to get my music and pictures to run together. I just can't get them to run at the same time, it's one or the other. (I'm trying to get my memorial service together )(no, I'm not expecting to die however, anything can happen with this virus.)

@@wandaharris4807 I see, if you want the music to play DURING the slideshow, you need to add another track on the timeline -- on the left side, right-click and 'Add audio track'. Then you can move the music onto that track so then it plays at the same time. I hope this is what you're trying to do, if I understand you correctly.

Can each slide last longer than just a few seconds? Also, can you overlay audio (narration) for each individual slide? Thank you.
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 2 года назад
Yes, after you create the slideshow, you are free to adjust the duration of any individual slide on the timeline as long or as short as you need it and the transition will still work. As for narration, yes, you can add music or audio on a separate track at the appropriate time.

Can you still move the pictures around after you generate the slideshow?
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 3 года назад
Yes, this slideshow creator just places the photos on the timeline with the desired duration and adds the transitions. You are then free to move them and change them but it may remove the transitions for those particular ones, so you may have to re-do them. But it's a great tool for giving you a head start in arranging a slideshow.

@Graphicious

Select the slide, go to Filters and add a 'Size, Move and Rotation' filter to it. Then you can add a preset or animate the position and size using keyframes on that filter's properties. I can probably make a video on that.

What I have to do if I want to change transition duration after generating slideshow
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 3 года назад
After your slideshow is created on the timeline, click on the transition (the things that look like an X between the videos) to select them and right click to change their properties. But if you want to make them longer or shorter, you can drag the edges to extend or reduce their duration.

When you create the slideshow, you can only choose one (or random). But after the slideshow is created on your timeline, you can edit each transition individually, right click on it and choose 'Properties' and then you can change it.

I really like your simple tutorial. However my Shotcut freezes (the dreaded grey film) every time it gets to the part where it generates the slideshow. I've tried it in proxy mode, but it still happens. There are 59 photos but should that number be a problem?
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 3 года назад
Can you try resizing the images externally before adding them to the Shotcut timeline/media bin? Maybe they are too large, make them 1920 x 1080 (or whatever maximum your video is), and see if it works. Maybe you're hitting a memory limit. Also helps to update to the latest version of Shotcut. Also, if nothing works, try reducing the transitions, instead of Random, if that's what you're using, use a simple one, and see if there's maybe a problem with the transition or one of the transitions being applied.

@@Graphicious Thank you for your speedy reply. I've tried your suggestion, making sure nothing else was open on the computer as well but it is no better, in fact the more often I try, the quicker it seems to freeze. My original pictures were pretty huge, so I thought your suggestion would work, but no. I only have 4GB Ram so that may well be the problem. But it is the first time I've found myself short of Ram. Anyway I appreciate your help.
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 3 года назад
@@marianh9812 If you only have 4GB ram, that's probably the reason. I think your computer may be struggling to give Shotcut the memory it needs to process this. Try making shorter slideshows, for example only use half the photos, render the video and then half and render another video, separate project. Then you can stitch together these videos either in Shotcut or in Losslesscut. I have a tutorial on how to do that in a few seconds: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-USMXFmJfYZo.html

@@Graphicious I went on the Shotcut Forum and someone there also said that would be the reason and also because I have a 32-bit OS. Is it possible to insert multiple songs?
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 3 года назад
Yes, you can just drag another audio file after the first one, or you can add another audio track and add it on that track. This is useful if you want to have the songs overlap a little bit, or have some voiceover. To add a new track, right click on the timeline and go to 'Track Operations > Add audio track'. Hope this helps.

@@ariannesmum You can add a secondary audio track (use the menu on the left, with the 3 lines) and add your audio file on it. You can then change the volume so that your music goes down a bit when you have the voice over (like a 'ducking' effect).
