In this tutorial, we will learn how to create a star-field or a night sky in Blender, full of stars. Instead of expensive and resource-heavy methods, we are using a simple procedural setup which will produce a realistic starred sky quickly. You can use this as a background for your sci-fi models. Please watch the video for the complete tutorial. If you have any question on this tutorial, please leave your comment below.

@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender Год назад
That is a nice suggestion. However, that effect should be very very subtle, otherwise it will look unreal. It is easy to make all stars blink together, you just play with the brightness values. But it may be little challenging to make it random. Can be done though, I have an idea... nice tutorial suggestion, we will take up soon. Thank you!

@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender Год назад
Yes. Mix the existing Background node with another Background node with a deep Blue color or whatever you like the sky to be. Remember to use a very low value for the "Value" field in the HSV code. Mix these two Background nodes using a Mix Shader with FAC maybe 0.5 or so. The sky will be deep blue along with the stars as expected.

When I render, stars appears on ground plane texture🤔… How to remove that?
@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender 3 месяца назад
I just checked this same thing with a ground plane, the stars are all over the sky i.e. the area outside the ground plane and above the ground plane. They do not overlap with the ground plane texture. To investigate it further, I would request you to send your blend file to us (5minblender@gmail.com), we'll check and get back to you asap.

@lytn9391 2 года назад
Is there a way to make them all differently colored, like a gradient?
@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender 2 года назад
Nice question! Yes, it is easily possible. In the compositor, we have a node called Background and it has got an input socket called Color. You can add a gradient color or any texture to this input field, and the stars will get a variable color. For a simple setup, just add a Voronoi Texture node and connect its output to the color input of the Background node. You will notice the color variation in the stars in the render output. You can customize the color or the gradient by changing the Voronoi node settings suitably or by replacing it with some better color input.

The export function is not very robust. It does not include the environment (sky in this case) by default. You'll need to export the environment separately as a texture and combine it in your target application. The objects and the environments are handled separately.

Yes, you can invert the noise texture and use its factor to mix the sky output with a solid color. So the black portion will be replaced with a solid color while the stars remain as it is.

Hi, sorry for this late response, I was out of the town during the weekend. I quickly checked at my end, if I zoom out the camera, the objects in the viewport become smaller as expected, but the world background does not change (and it is not supposed to change). So I did not notice what you said. Can you please check if you have some other nodes also active, or if you are using bloom, or something else which is maybe interfering with this effect? 🤔🤔

can we mix two worlds via nodes ?
@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender Год назад
Yes, you can. You don't actually mix two "worlds". Each world has its own node setup. Just duplicate both the setup into one 3rd world so that you have everything together, in two separate groups. Then mix the output of these two separate groups with a mix shader and connect that to your world output.

when i go to render the stars do not show up? how can i show it in the final render?
@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender Год назад
It should show up in the render without any other special setup. Are you using any post-processing in your compositor? That can suppress the stars. Or if you are using a different lighting, or color scheme, it can impact the output. I suggest you to try this with the default Blender scene having the default cube. If it works there and not in your actual scene, there must be something in your scene that is restricting the stars to render.

When i zoom out the stars enlarge and get pixelated. How do I fix this?
@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender 2 года назад
Where did you zoom-in? If you zoom-in while in the render output, it will get pixelated, because it is a simple image file only. If you zoom-in your camera in the camera view, any other object will get bigger, but the stars won't. These stars are actually part of the world background, so they are not affected by the camera zoom. Please confirm where you actually zoomed in.
@gsnipes5451
@gsnipes5451 2 года назад
I zoomed out while working on the project and I wasn’t in the camera view. If I kept zooming out, It would eventually become Pixilated
@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender 2 года назад
Okay, so I think you don't need to worry for this. If you render the scene, the output will be perfect. The zoom level won't affect the starred background in the output. Please let me know if it does.
@BlazeTheCatMan
@BlazeTheCatMan Год назад
why is it that when i render it the stars look bigger and not tinnier like they are suspose to in real life like it kinda looks unatural.
@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender Год назад
Hi, it depends on the scale factors in the Voronoi textures (and on your screen resolution). To reduce the size of the stars, you can increase the scale size to say 500 and 700 for the two Voronoi textures. The stars will be then tinier. But if your screen resolution is not good, the stars may vanish completely. So you can just do some experiments and discover what values give you the perfect result.

Now decide a color for the stars and add a RGB node from the input group and set the star color on this node. Let us call it color 2. Now mix color2 and color1 using a MixRGB node from the color group. From our node setup in this tutorial, use the final value from the multiply node and plug it into the FAC input of the MixRGB node. WHY DOES THE MAP RANGE REMOVE THE COLOR???
@5MinutesBlender
@5MinutesBlender 8 месяцев назад
The map range node is connected to the Color input of the Background node and converts everything into Black & White. The white parts are the stars. Based on your requirement, you may need to make suitable adjustments to this node tree. For example, let's say we want to create stars on a deep blue sky instead of black sky. We need to Mix the existing Background node with another Background node with a deep Blue color or whatever you like the sky to be. Remember to use a very low value for the "Value" field in the HSV code. Mix these two Background nodes using a Mix Shader with FAC maybe 0.5 or so.
