I just wanted to drop in and say a huge THANK YOU to Katharyne for making this available to us! I bought into it a few weeks ago and have not been disappointed. Not only are there great quality items, but Katharyne takes your suggestions seriously and tries to implement them quickly. There has already been an update and she has expanded the options to include different quantities of pages for all the templates. Bravo! Highly recommend.

Katharyne, Throughly enjoyed the video, very well done. A couple of questions, (1) does this system work on a MAC, please say yes, (2) Templates are for the inside pages, correct?, so the extra system I would need to complete a Journal, including Front and Back covers as in your video, would be which systems of yours?

I just replied to you in the Facebook group too :) Yes, Isaac and I both primarily use Macs (and built the software and templates using them) :) Really the interiors are the hard part of the book so our system is focused on those. To create a cover, any image over 300DPI resolution is fine and can be uploaded directly into CreateSpace's cover creator. I actually sometimes just drag public domain images straight into the cover creator and reposition them, however I recommend customizing them :) We provide the pixel counts and blank templates to make it easy, but you will need to create/edit your cover in a graphics package of your choice. We recommend Canva if you're new to graphics or Photoshop if you're more experienced.
Hi Katharyne, I really like this software and would probably be buying it, but I was wondering if you've ever considered making a template for the months of the year (preferably for the years of 2018, 2019, 2020, etc). I'm interested in making book calendars. Thank you for your time. Great item.

Hi, Katharyne, What if I want to create a series of books with the same cover? Do we choose that it is part of a series? "A series is a connected set of books. If this book is part of a series, identify where the book exists in the sequence with a volume number. We only accept volume numbers in numerical format ("1", "2", or "3"). Magazines and journals are also often grouped as a series. Identifying the series helps customers find other books in the series."
Hi Hilda! Are your customers likely to buy the other books? Generally, a series makes sense if you have a set of books that a customer would normally buy and read in a particular order. I'm a little confused why the books have the same cover. If for example, they all have a picture of a farmhouse on the front, but one is marketed to people who like farmhouse cooking and another is marketed as a peaceful pastoral journal, then I probably wouldn't do any kind of linking as they're likely for different audiences.
Is there a way to edit these in Powerpoint? I don't have InDesign and I may want to add text or prompts to the pages and I have been creating journals using powerpoint so I know that program well.
Hi! :) You can't have more than three consecutive blank pages. Page numbers MAY be enough to pass CreateSpace's checker but may not (depends on the reviewer). It's better to include lines, motifs or some other element that stops the pages being completely blank.
I read that Createspace stopped Author Services earlier this year. I wanted to know if I'm still able to create a coloring book using Createspace for free, and if it can still be sold on Amazon. I understand I'd have to pay fees for an Amazon account to sell, but the article I read almost made it sound like Createspace is shutting down...? I'm confused now on if we can still publish a coloring book with them.
Hello Kristi! While CreateSpace stopped Author Services, that was a fairly minor part of their operations. However this week they announced they are merging into KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) So the good news is you can still make your coloring book and have it on Amazon, but you will have to work through the KDP platform instead of CreateSpace. You can find more about KDP at kdp.amazon.com - it's not a huge difference and our templates shown in this video all work fine on KDP. We'll be working on KDP specific videos from now on.
Katharine, I don't know what happens in my case,but I sent a notebook with blank pages to CreateSpace and I received the following feedback: 1. It has to have a title on the cover (What title, if it's a simple notebook?) 2. It can't have more than 10 blank pages (The notebook has 100 blank pages). So, I practically can't create a notebook, according to CreateSpace. Does it happen to be a way around all these rules to have my notebooks accepted? I want to know for sure before I plunge into this adventure. Thank you, dear open-hearted friend!
Hello! So regarding the title - yes, your title has to be on the spine or the cover of your book and it has to be exactly what you enter in the 'Title' field in the listing on your CreateSpace dashboard. This is easy though - just use cover creator to make your covers and the title can go on the spine, leaving the front cover blank for your design. Alternatively, you can just title your book 'Notebook' and put all the additional info in the subtitle. Then you just have to put 'Notebook' on the cover. I explain more about this in my keywords and covers videos. 2. Yes, you can't upload entirely blank pages to CreateSpace. More than 3 consecutive blank pages at the front or inside the notebook or more than 10 at the back will trigger a rejection. However, you can upload lined pages, pages with frames, boxes, dots etc. Amazon doesn't consider those blank and explicitly allows them in their policies :) In some cases, page numbers are enough for Amazon to not consider them 'blank', but we recommend putting a little more detail on - likes lines, frames or a simple motif.

I introduced an introductory page in the blank notebook and put a title on it.I'll see what they are going to decide this time. It actually makes sense, since they are publishing books with ISBN and all, and these are notebooks. :) I'll definitely watch all of your videos - they are so helpful. Katharyne, Do you feel composition books need a tag on the front? When I download and use the Tangent tags I can never resize properly? They come out blurry every time. I'm considering leaving them off altogether.
Hello! Thank you for your question and thank you for using Templates :) No, you don't need to include these. Traditionally, the big US companies like Norcom and Mead have panels on their composition books and some schools or parents may prefer books to look like this, so we added the panels as a little bonus to the templates, but it's totally fine to create school exercise books, notebooks etc. without the panel. The panels are sized for the standard sized 7.44 x 9.69 composition book. Books of other sizes really don't need a panel, but if you want to make one or add one as an artistic choice, that's totally fine.
Hi, Katharyne Is there a way you would consider putting some smaller sizes in your Tangent Template; such as: 4" x 5.5' and 5.5" x 4" and 4" x 6". I know that Createspace will let you do it if you go to the second pages of sizes and request a custom size. (Of course, it comes with the understanding that you can only use to market it on Amazon). The reason I would like to have these sizes is because many of these can fit in a small purse or pocket. (By the Way, I love your Tangent Templates. This was the best $59.00 I ever spent)!
Thank you so much for the lovely comments and the suggestion! We're still thinking about custom sizes and whether we can add those (and how we should do it if so). It's a little trickier because each of the templates is hand-made per size, not automatically resized. We'll put it on the list and revisit it after the next batch of updates we're working on.

Great video thank you. The journals I have up loaded to createspace have come back telling me the title has to be on the front cover. I noticed your mermaid title was not on the cover. Is this something new, have you experienced this?
Hello Dawn! So CreateSpace has a policy that the title you use in your listing must be repeated exactly on the cover. The good news is that 'cover' includes the spine of the book so there are two approaches I recommend. The first is to put the title of your book on the spine. If you are using the cover creator tool in CreateSpace, this is very easy - it will do it for you automatically. We recommend using the blank templates - Palm, Pine or Spruce and uploading your own cover image. CreateSpace do recommend that your book is over 130 pages before you put text on the spine, but we've found it will usually work with a page count over 110. The second approach is to make your title very short. For example, "Composition Book" and then put your keywords and descriptive words into the subtitle. This works because the subtitle indexes equally in Amazon's search algorithm and will show up on the listing, but it doesn't have to be included on the cover. You would still have to put the title, 'Composition Book' somewhere on the front cover though. I hope that helps!
Can u use your own photo of a car, say a Porsche? Is there any copyright issue? Not with the photo itself but using their brand, which is an issue on Merch.
Hello! I'm not a lawyer but I imagine this would be taking a risk as any use of a car brand may be considered a trademark infringement. I know for example Ford license Mustang stationery and would probably want to avoid any brand confusion.

Hello Alicia! It really depends how you plan to use them. We ask that they're used to make physical books and are not digitally distributed so selling these as printables or downloadable files would be against our ToS but you could make your physical books on KDP and then resell those on Etsy. From a technical perspective, these are tailored for KDP's custom sizes, margin settings etc. but if you're using another POD service with the same sizes, you could use them there.
Hi! Thanks for watching :) So the thing with Amazon is that it covers the whole spectrum of incomes. There are many people who don't really know the price of a loaf of bread and if their daughter loves owls and her first day at a new school is coming up, they're going to buy the only owl composition book they can find. I've been selling on Amazon FBA for four years and one year for example, I sold 300 dollar store Halloween Fence decorations for $17 each. People just want the convenience. If $10 saves them a trip to Walmart and they get exactly what they want, they'll pay it. There are several ways a $4.99 journal can be profitable. It depends who the seller is. Sometimes Amazon will sell books at rock bottom prices. If it's a CreateSpace seller, a common scenario is that they are selling their book at break-even point as a promotion for their brand. Maybe subsequent books in the series cost more or they have something else to upsell? A 50 page journal may make 84c on CreateSpace. Not a fortune, but the seller might be pricing low to get volume sales. If it's being sold on Amazon Marketplace, they could have sourced it for free/cheap. Maybe someone was liquidating them?

Hello Lori! It depends on the size of book you would like to create. Our templates are sized for KDP's 16 preset sizes which you can find here: kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201834180 Most of these overlap with Lulu's and are common standards like 6x9, 7x10, 8.5x11 etc. but Lulu has some different sizes from KDP so you will want to check.
your video didnt tell you how it all works. do you buy a package and use it over and over. Do uou buy one pdf 200 pages once, what is the nitty details.
cbzombiequeen58 the system gives you access to the PDF files. You download the ones you want to use. You can use each pdf file as many times as you like, to create as many books as you want on CreateSpace.
so, if i have this correct, i pay you 60.00, down load as many giles i want to use over time and cover files. then they are in my computer. then i go from my computer and upload as mant times i want to , createspace. , so i could make hundreds of notebooks of mant sizes. Do i have this correct???
Yep, exactly :) The cover files are blank templates for you to customize in Photoshop, Canva or whatever graphics package you prefer. The interiors are completely done for you unless you choose to customize them.
