Woah awesome devlog! There's no other Playdate devlogs other than mine and Axolotl's on RU-vid so it was super interesting seeing how your game came together. Really polished game - nice work!
Thank you, there definitely will be more stuff like this in the future. I'm still getting the hang of it so over time videos should come out more frequently
I think the shield could be simplified by simply having a circle collider and getting the angle from the player and the ball and then some math to see if the ball falls inside the shield area and reverse the velocity of the ball.
Unfortunately that would not work. There are no circle colliders in the playdate sdk, and if the ball comes in at an angle reversing the velocity would not be how a sphere bounces off another. That's why to do it you need to calculate the angle of reflection based on the tangent line of the collision
You deserve so many more views and subscribers than you have, just keep up the grind and you’ll be up there with some of the bigger coding content creators
Game looks incredible! That audio decode performance hit is a heinous one, seems like profiling could've gone a long way here. I'm currently writing a playdate engine in C, so glad for the warning. Keep making these mate! Great stuff
I wanted to buy Playdate a lot... But the price to simply too high - I'm not referring even to price-to-value ratio but in absolute terms: 199 USD turns into 282.90 with shipping and taxes. for 135 USD I bought a retro console RG353v which brought me back into a nostalgic adventure across systems and computers of my childhood (Commodore +4 / C64 / Amiga / Dos games / Point-and-click games such as Secret of Monkey Island etc).
