Aloha Koa! I hope you read this. Give the shoulder a rest for a few days. work on movement and stretching it out. I had shoulder replacement after paddling in pain for years. Nowadays, i paddleboard surf 90% of the time, the paddle gives the shoulders a rest and you can catch waves much easier, ask Kai Lenny! Never stop braddah, thanks for taking us with you!
DMSO for the shoulder brah!! It will blow your mind!! For pain and for healing and for taking other components in through the skin with it right over the injury.
Koa. I blew a shoulder out in a roller over car crash 37 years ago. Advil, CRUSHED between 2 spoons, turns to powder. Mix with 1 cup warm water and down it. Tastes like shit, but, it kicks in in 15-30 minutes. Way faster than having to dissolve. Us " Old Geezers " of the water have a lot of remedies. Like ice packs for the shoulder. 60%rubbing alcohol/40%water in a 1 gallon zip lok bag. Squeeze the air out and freeze. It turns to slush, that conforms to the shoulder and is better than ice.... THANK YOU for the wonderful videos
Wish I had this as my life. I sit at home, working 10 hours a day on the computer, while watching my kids lol. Taking the family to Hawaii this summer for 10 days though. I just want to sit on the beach, surf a little and chill. Where's a good spot to ride if you're OK, not great (have ridden up to around 10ft) and it's not too crowded?
I used to make a little surfboard earrings out of leftover surfboard foam and paint them neon colors with cool designs and they were so lightweight but you could make them pretty big😂
4 Advil and 2 Tylenol together is the trick. They gave it to me in the ER when I tore my bicep muscle it’s my go to now on days I need to get it done with no pain
I wonder though what the greater risk is: head injury or neck/spinal injury? Head first shallow water falls are a serious risk for spinal, and increasing the mass of the head with a helmet could actually increase this risk. I'm not saying he shouldn't wear a helmet, but I do think that they are not the panacea that some are advertising here. I think if we really cared about a surfer's well being, we would say "stop riding waves over shallow reef"... Ultimately it is risk analysis and would depend on time and place whether a helmet was necessary or not. A very comfortable helmet that did not impede perception while surfing would be ideal. The head of Kali did a podcast which was a good discussion regarding helmets (in this case MTB) in the real world. Helmets are super useful designed correctly for the context and understanding the risk involved. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sMT2OJAyjZU.html
A Gath helmet is 460 grams (~1 lb). You’re not putting an anchor on your head lol. Also, hockey players play an extremely fast and physical sport with helmets, so you’ll be fine wearing one surfing.
@@bryanflores3633 1lb is roughly 10% of the mass of an average head, so that isn't insignificant. That said, for sure, people can adapt. Eg we need to wear a hood for a good chunk of the year in our climate. I think you are missing my point though. This entire activity requires risk analysis. It is not like one can just throw on a helmet and be safe to surf pipe. It takes years of learning and building skills that keep one safe. A helmet may make a lot of sense and is part of that big picture risk analysis. You will notice that JOB wears a helmet at big pipe but not at Turtle Bay. Each surfer is going to do their own evaluation of risk and what works for them. Maybe Koa legitimately has not found a suitable lid that isn't going to be more of a distraction and thus greater risk. Regarding hockey, they wear helmets and yet there are way more concussions than in surfing. If you are interested in helmets, that podcast I linked above is a good one.
I’ve been waiting for the Advil to kick in since 1993… At 61 years old… You’re in pain somewhere on your body nonstop… I don’t know how I’m gonna make it to 71 and 81
You ripped your rotator. Small tear guaranteed. Did same thing snowboard. Go get it checked ASAP.

Well, yer 30 bro, things ain't what they used to be injury and recovery wise. Get used to it...the longer you do the sport, the more the body will need to be taken care of.
