Many of you know that my day job is related to astronomy, so I usually share my astronomy drawing videos over on my astronomy channel, but I've uploaded two other sketching timelapses over there this past couple of weeks so I thought I'd share this one here instead.
If you like seeing these videos, check out my astronomy sketching playlist over on my other channel here:
• Astronomy Sketching
A great astronomy friend of mine recently had a landmark birthday, and one of my gifts for her was creating this pastel drawing of the Moon as it looked on the day she was born. I used Stellarium to look up the lunar phase and libration so I could get the placement of the features in the right place. The Moon was a 72% Waxing Gibbous phase, but I also included the non-illuminated side with subtle, faint detail to complete the circle.
I used Stablio CarbOthello pastel pencils on Frisk black A4 sketching paper. I used cotton wool, cotton buds (Q-tips) and blending stumps for blending. I took a photo every 8 seconds with a Canon 1100D and 18mm kit lens. Over a thousand images were used to create the timelapse, which I created using PIPP and Movie Maker.
