Wow! This 1910s vibe really resonates with me. I like your capsule wardrobe videos, but this one is my jam. I already have some similar pieces in my wardrobe. Now I can find/make pieces with more intention. Also - I saw a dress at Bloomingdales that is very similar to your July 4th dress. I was on the escalator so didn't see the price. Anyways, your is prettier.

I'm glad everyone is liking it. I was worried that since it's more on the modern spectrum, it wasn't creative or original enough. I guess I forgot that basic pieces are a lot more practical for the majority of people.

I live in South Texas. We tend to avoid man-made fabrics since they tend to not allow the skin to breathe. Most of the clothing I make has been cotton, linen, cotton-linen blend, silk, and light and mid weight wool.

Love the idea of tassels on the long vest points! That's a really eye-catching detail that truly captures the Titanic vibe.

I agree. Finding or making the right tassel would be key. And I would try to find an actual antique belt clasp or broach to wear with it.

Such a lovely capsule! I love the 1910s, especially the loose, drapey feel. I'm currently pregnant, and I often wear a size XL viscose dress from my thrift shop (I'm a size S usually) of which I tie the side ties over my bump. It looks super edwardian because it's long and all the extra fabric drapes so well. The oversized sleeves look really edwardian too. Also, it's super breezy so I think the loose silhouette is the way to go in the future. Bonus: I didn't have to cut into the dress so when I'm done wearing it, I can put it back in the shop for a plus size lady to enjoy.

Central Texas, here! I bet a skirt in poly chiffon with a linen lining would be a very practical part of any Texan's wardrobe. Linen's comfort on hot humid days is astonishing, which I only came to fully appreciate after wearing some recent sewing projects. My versatile double-gauze cotton dress--Gaul with sash or Regency with short stays--is no-where near as cool as my Italian chemise in shirt-weight linen or my bias sheath made from IKEA's upholstery linen. So impressed with the difference, I made a linen slip to wear under my modern wardrobe and made a linen liner for bras, which has been a revelation in how much more comfortable a support garment can be.

Viscose would be a good fabric for all the drapey bits. It's not the most eco friendly, but you can buy ends of bolts, or even lyocell

It also has the benefit of being more breathable than polyester. It’s similar to silk in that respect, being a filament but not plastic.

Thank you for sharing this capsule wardrobe. I had wanted to incorporate history-bounding into my daily wardrobe but felt intimated by all the other eras I'm interested in. It comes down to wanting to maintain the modern underpinnings but getting the aesthetic. I had narrowed my focus to the 1910s/Titanic era as well as the 1890s-early 1900 before the pigeon breast look. This definitely gives me a jumping-off point of how to adapt all of my truly victorian, wearing history, black snail patterns, and the victorian dressmaker patterns into history-bounding looks.

I happened on this video after watching the one on what to wear on your legs in the winter if you wear skirts, a topic close to my heart right now. I will be watching all of your wardrobe videos, I'm sure, and rewatching this one. It's just about perfect. I love the clothes you put together and the section on doing the digital versions. I'm a big fan of both wardrobes and drawing them digitally. This one has a bit of an Ivey Abitz vibe which I just love.

Lovely! Watching this, and the previous capsule, kind of feels like cheating. Like someone watching someone workout through the window of a gym to get tips from a personal trainer. LOL! Because I love so many of these pieces, I'm sitting here like "Yup! Oh, and that one. And definitely that! Don't I already have a pattern for something like that? That fabric looks like one in my stash!" ...so even though these capsules aren't for me, I'm getting a lot of inspiration.

If Kenzie is looking for patterns she could use the (free) American Duchess cape pattern taken off of an original cape from the 19teens. And check out Folkwear, they have an early 1900s shirtwaist pattern and a 1903 split/riding skirt pattern (which I highly recommend) which could be kept as is or easily hacked to be either a skirt or trousers and give a lovely shape

19teens is my absolute favorite era and I think it is one of the eras easier to history bound. This is a really fabulous capsule, and it gave me some great ideas! I hope your client is able to put together all the looks. I think your ideas on fabric choices were pretty spot on. I lived in TX for half my life...linen, rayon and cotton were my gotos year round. Even very light poly chiffon I found intolerable.

I have an idea for a historybounding video that might useful to a lot of us : Exploring ways to make skirts convertible in length. (to go from socially appropriate knee length/midi to historical full length). My ideas so far : cut a skirt from a historical pattern, but shorter (like Bernadette did) and hem it with a sturdy facing, adding binding to the very edge. Cut the remainder of the pattern out of the same fabric so that they'll overlap, sew it & hem it too. Then lots of small buttons can be added to the inside of the skirt hem, and buttonholes or loops to the top of the 'extension' ! Once buttoned, a quick running stitch will keep everything flush and the contrasting biais should hide the 'seam'. The conversion wouldn't be instantaneous because of the running stitch, it would need to be planned in advance, but you'd still end up with a 2-in-1 garment ! I figure it might work with a discreet zipper as well, but it would need to be crazy long. What do you think ? Given your expertise in sewing, you might already know it doesn't work... But if it sounds like a worthwhile endeavour, I would love a video about this 😉

Check out Karolina Zabrowska, her new video is The Problem With Its All Been Done Before. Looks, details are repeated over time. I expect that the details you like have been combined already. What makes an outfit work is what is demonstrated here in Mariahs video. Getting the proportions balanced, considering pattern, colour and texture. Before you follow through with real pieces, try on similar items together to make sure the proportions suit your body. I like the 1930s but the 1970s interpretation can be easier to wear.

@@michellebyrom6551 Thank you, I love Karolina, she's amazing! True story, it's all been done before. I love the 1930s as well:) I have experimented a bit and the most successful outfits were either adaptations/historically inspired or combinations between one genuinely antique piece and a few contemporary items. It's all about playing and having fun, isn't it? :)

While I am not really attracted to the teens, I really love watching your capsule wardrobes for inspiration. In fact during this one, I started to think about a capsule wardrobe, for summer, inspired by ancient Rome! Interesting, don't you think? My colors would be whites, blues, spring green, and because I want to be bougie, deep purple. What do you think? I don't have your skill with digitizing, but I am going to do some research and see what I can figure out.

I appreciate the thought that goes into mixing time periods. If I were the client, I would pick more muted, as opposed to earth tones. That is not a criticism of this client. It does make me wonder how to incorporate various chromas into history bounding wardrobes. Would other elements of your designs have been different if the inspiration colors had all been tints?

Oh, wow. I NEED that long lines sleeveless jacket. Just yesterday I was lamenting not having something I could wear for a slightly chilly morning that is going to get hotter in the evening (typical later summer-early fall, late winter-mid spring days where I live.) I settled on a zipper front jacket, but with sleeves, it was very warm by the evening. That jacket you designed is PERFECT, and I especially loved the drop details in the front.

Everything about this project speaks to me! I've been wanting to incorporate some more historical-ish pieces in my wardrobe. I even bought a Redthreaded 1910's corset (I was lucky enough to snag a sample in my size!) when I started becoming interested in historical dress. The problem is...I had no idea where to start. This color palette is perfect for me. I live in Florida and prefer layering. I always wear pants or long skirts (with tights underneath) because I work in an office, and some maniac always turns the AC down way too low. Like, if I didn't know any better, I'd think you'd designed this wardrobe for me, lol.

Hi, I am a new subscriber- your channel just popped up since I am interested in the history of fashion- I have, in vain, searched for and asked two other You Tuber's a question about Medieval or Renaissance, a film, Romeo and Juliet, the ONLY VERSION FOR ME, 1967, concerning the helmet like head coverings worn by the older women- Juliet's mother wears one at the party where the lovers meet. The "helmet" appears to be decorative plastic which they didn't have! Nitpickers who love film, point to the multi-use of grommets! on the men's wear- you really have to search, press STOP, etc! I figure, Shakespeare's poetry and Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whitting do tend to keep one's attention! Maybe you know- they aren't made of gold and silver, costly thread- I used to sew and also adore the Edwardian Era clothing- even hobble skirts! I love vintage but, being older can't find what I regard as vintage or if I locate an item, it's damaged or too expensive. Your site and business are the ideal solution. I'm keen to catch up on older posts! Namaste from Canada ( where I live you can't find much in the way of fabrics, even sewing stores and much of it is "chintzy" now- not real chintz which is wonderful for lots of projects - I use the word in the old fashioned sense, as in poor quality- but the prices are ludicrous, even end of the roll...So I'll be interested to see how you interpret historic silhouettes for modern women so used to jeans and tees!

I tend to pair it with straight black pants, and a black jumper for winter, and wear it on it's own or over a thin pair of trousers for summer! I've been looking into doing some history bounding - and this particular one is really, really up my alley.

I've thought about it before, but I don't think I will, except to make a male base mannequin if I ever need one. One, because the pieces are somewhat interchangeable between the different wardrobes, and that is useful. And two, because it would make the art process double or triple time consuming, which I just don't think would be sustainable.
