Amazing cover from Christian! There’s not a lot of fantasy books cover tutorials out there, so I find this really helpful. Which software does he use? Is it just Photoshop, or does he also use applications like Adobe Illustrator or InDesign?
@PhotoManipulation
@PhotoManipulation 3 года назад
Hey Lissie! Christian uses Adobe Photoshop for compositing, and DAZ3D to create figure elements. Hope that clarifies :)

Hey Elora, we try to encourage using full qaulity stock photos as they really do make an impact on the outcome of the level of the work you end up with! If you take a look on places like Devaint Art they do offer free stock photography, and perhaps find a similar image to test out what you would like to try! We really appreciate the feedback!

The work is great, but please do not speed up the video. We want to benefit from you more. Please take this request into consideration. I love this field strongly. I would like you to remind us of the techniques that you use. Thank you.

Speed art is by nature more entertainment based, but you can still learn from them! However we do do the more traditional tutorials for you to enjoy. We like to cover all bases when we make content for all tastes! Thanks so much for the feedback!!

This is NOT a photoshop tutorial. It's speed art. Posting speedart is fine. Just please, stop mistagging your videos and wasting people's time.

Speed art is not for every one, but we do feel you can learn from them still. However we understand that a lot of people prefer straight ahead tutorials, so allow me to lnk you in: ru-vid.com/group/PL9j0U22QBBqRiDvB7tyNvPheXaj4OaiYH - many thanks for the feedback!!!!!!

@@PhotoManipulation I appreciate you taking the time to respond and I also appreciate the effort to include the link you provided. Unfortunately, the link wasn't helpful. My issue with the presentation of this video isn't that some people won't find it somewhat helpful. Some people might, especially if they are proficient with photoshop and don't need step by step instructions. But some of us need those step by step instructions. The reason the link you provided me wasn't helpful to me, personally, was because I was looking for Book cover specific instructions. The link you provided was tuned more to the basic essentials of using photoshop, but that's not my most immediate need. I specifically wanted instruction about making book covers. My frustration comes in the fact that your video strongly suggests that it would suit my needs. It is tagged as a photoshop tutorial and the description specifically states that the information within centers around exactly what I searched for: Urban Fantasy Book Cover. But it's not a tutorial. It's a timelapse, with zero discussion of the steps being taken and because it's a timelapse, parsing out the various steps would be incredibly time consuming and difficult. Especially since there is no disccusion of what's being done and why it's being done. Maybe some of the things being done wouldn't be good for my cover specifically, but there's no way for me to know that, because it wasn't discussed. I simply do not feel like this qualifies as a tutorial and shouldn't be labeled or tagged that way. My opinion on that hasn't changed, based upon your response.

@@PhotoManipulation Also, just to make sure you are clear on this. If you don't already know this, every genre of book covers has very specific needs that 'must' be adhered to, if you want to increase your chances of your book being successful in the marketplace. Let's take an example from the link you provided: Video 6 was titled 'Epic Fantasy Rim Light Effect.' There's a problem with this. The technique and result that is presented in this tutorial is way more fitting for 'Urban Fantasy' than it is for Epic Fantasy. The Rim Light effect is a very common technique for Urban Fantasy but isn't a genre specific technique, nearly as much, in the Epic Fantasy genre. There are also common color themes, fonts, and other different needs based upon genre. As a graphic design channel, it would be amazing if this channel researched the differing needs based upon genre and did videos to teach self publishing authors what to focus on, based upon the genres they are publishing on. I don't know if this would be popular, though. I don't really know for sure how many self publishing authors out there are even aware that the book covers they are making should be catered to the market in this way, let alone whether they are searching for it, actively. Just a thought and something I personally would appreciate if a graphic design channel offered.
