Thank you, I’m really…..sorry if I offended you Betty, I don’t have much time to spend on my favorite art!!! But I sure love to see you work!!! You and my favorite paints, that’s all I need!!
Whenever I paint using an abstract technique, I periodically rotate my canvas in order to get a different perspective of my work. I have found this to be surprisingly helpful.
I could quite happily sit with you and watch a live stream whilst you paint. As a fellow artist , it can get very lonely - so having another artist creating along with me is very inspiring. Love your work xx
That would be fun, Sara! It can get lonely at times. However, for me, I really love my alone time. And, I also love spending a little time with other artists! It's all about balance, I guess.
I really like your method and the way you approach your painting. Abstract is the most difficult type of painting and it is really great to see how you tackle each stage of your painting. I also love your smaller paintings on your wall.
Thanks, Lindy! I agree....abstract art IS hard. But, with practice and learning some key concepts, it becomes a bit easier. Thanks so much for watching!
I've watched this video maybe twenty times and it never get old.I never commented on this one. I can watch and listen to Betty all day she"s extremely thorough. I watch back to back to back so five hours wouldn't be an issue for Betty's videos. Maybe put a long version on Patreon $. She is truly the best of the best. Thank you
I was flabbergasted that this took less than five hours! I think your working methods are really well worked out too, particularly the drawing/dark paint/contrasting colour layers and the consistency of your mark making throughout. I also work quickly and have a habit of overworking images, so I can see that process painting will help me as I work in more abstract ways. Thanks for that 😊👌
Betty, I started watching you this week and I couldn't stop viewing your videos. I felt blessed and lucky to find you. I love your work. Thank you for sharing!
You have such a lovely, warm, genuine & generous way of sharing ❣️ thank you for all those most valuable little tips, you articulate so well about your process! I feel like you are present with me, you have a true genuine desire to help everybody enjoy & succeed with creative passion. It is very refreshing to listen & watch someone share\teach so openly, & thoroughly, devoid of ego or self any self serving intentions! ❣️ You made my night & im sure many more to come 😍 big love 💗
Hi Betty! I love your choice of colours in this piece! It's fun to watch you paint as I find it quite relaxing. I love to watch other artists paint. I am an artist also and I'm disabled and I'm deaf in one ear, and I'm bedbound so I have to do everything lying down and it can be a challenge! I put a box easel on my body and use it to hold my canvasses. It's hard to find room for my palette though. My Mom helps me get all the supplies together and set everything up and then I paint. I used to draw and paint in a realistic manner but now I find abstract much more satisfying. I also use pen and ink, watercolours, pastels, coloured pencils and acrylic. I love variety in life and in art also. Well, I'll get back to watching you paint. Thank you and take care!
Hi Michele! Thank you so much for sharing your story with me. Wow, I'm in awe of you. You take a difficult situation and make something wonderful (literally!) of it. I'm so happy you have enjoyed watching my videos. Wishing you many more wonderfully creative hours! Stay well!
It's always a pleasure to see a new video from you pop up on my subscription feed. I find I get anxious for one and so go to your channel to make sure I haven't missed anything. I usually watch them more than once. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and process - it's mesmerizing. 👍🙂
Wow I’m amazed that you can work through this whole process to such a gorgeous finish in only 4 1/2 hours! Thank you so much for your generosity of spirit in sharing so much information with us! I’m in the Flower Painting club with Carrie Schmitt and really enjoyed your interview❤
Hi Maggie! Thanks so much for listening to the interview I did with Carrie. She's a wonderful person and artist! Wishing you a wonderfully creative 2023!!
I love your rhythm in painting process. Your movement of color application is fascinating. I feel that Im part of your painting , possibly because your commentary make my viewing very meaningful. ❤
I think YOUR brain can "handle all of that"- focusing on the audio book while painting at the same time! That is quite amazing, in my opinion. The process of language/meaning decoding and visual work - especially the problem solving part- is very impressive.
Awe...thanks! It's what works best for me. I totally understand that everyone is different and we all have to find what works best for us. Thanks so much for watching!
That painting has so much dimension, texture and depth. I can imagine trees and flowers with a pathway going through them. Love the colors that you chose. So much fun watching you create!
Your videos are like therapy to me Betty. I’m mesmerised by your process and although I don’t paint abstracts I learn a lot about working with acrylics, colour, values and just generally relaxing while creating. Thank you! ❤️
Betty Frank's Art: Unbelievably HELPFUL tip! It's very much like seeing your art with someone else's eyes & helps to point out glaring inconsistencies (abstract painting is definitely NOT just throwing some paint around as some would think) and how to know when it's actually finished. Now I take progress photos for myself, and regretfully, discovered that I have often gone too far with further "details" and destroyed what I was going for! Slow down, Yope! I also use greyscale photos in the beginning to judge how colors will be seen from a distance. I also find standing as far away as I can from the painting helps to see the "big picture". Pardon the pun :) Greetings from Canada, I love your art style! Mine is still evolving, best described as some sort of mix of Gerda Lipsky, Elyse Fournier, and your own great self! Also, I really admire and aspire to Paivie Eerola from peonyandparaket, ultimate favorite! The four of you and drawing phenom Peter Draws are my greatest art influencers to date. And for that, many thanks!
Just watched your fabulous video for the umpteenth time, Betty, haha. It's like the best combination of easy listening, color explosion, and watching creation unfold. Thank you so much, sweetie. You're the best.
This is my favourite so far Betty but still wanted a bit more of the brighter colours peeking through. Have watched it twice and feel I don't have to do it myself when I can watch you! Very relaxing and thank you for sharing.
Regarding the layers, my best paintings are those with many layers and the ones I have sold for a good price. Each layer adds something to the finished piece: texture, hints of colour.
14:01 is my favorite part of the painting. I know it's about what the artist wants to paint and when she feels it's finished. But I love the part because of the way she made all those colors work in harmony at that point and to me it looked like the beautiful chaos found in nature. And from a distance the painting really made an impact with it's striking color. Amazing abstract. ❤️
Once again a beautiful painting. Love watching you work. Sometimes I paint along with you but not what you are laying down. Your comments help so much. Thank you.
I have so much admiration for this beautiful painting and for the energy and passion you put into your work. Wow! So original! I know it's not easy, I've done some pairing myself, and I feel I've grown but still have a long ways to go. I watched your video before falling asleep last night and got right back to it first thing this morning. Thanks for your generosity in both the painting and the video sharing. I hope I can take some of what I've witnessed into my own work. Thank you so much!!! ❤️🥰
Ho Betty. Love your process as much as I love the results. Of every artwork of yours that I've seen, I notice that you always seem to nail the colours. Wonderful stuff. Thanks so much for sharing your work.
Thank you so much for letting me watch the process...yes, the transition into YOUR painting! I love this. I love how you follow the flow. It is really your expression, your special gift to the world❤
This is the 3rd time I've watched this one. You inspire me to be more creative, looser, use more fun colors!!! Thank you for always being so generous in sharing your art journey. I am also watching ank taking many notes on the how to's of instagram, pricing, shipping etc. you are helping so much!!! I also have been buying NOVA colors and love them! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am really just at the baby stages, of my art business - Looking forward to giving you credit for my successes!!! Sending blessings to you and your family
You're super kind, Cindy! All the credit goes to you for putting in the hours, research, and creative time to make your art and your art business a success! One step at a time! Blessings right back to you and yours! 💙
New follower. I happened upon you looking for oil stick videos. In reference to your comment about stopping when it feels right - I’m really enjoying watching your process, because several times I have thought the painting looked fabulous “as is”. I’m about halfway through this video and it’s been a blast!
I'm in love with your Art work and the way you make it interesting from the first marks on canvas to the end of it. I love your use of color. I have learn so much about abstract art just by watching your video's.
Wow! I thought, I had potential, but I see know, I'm not an abstract artist. I be want to to start painting,.but don't want to feel like a joke. I've enjoy listening to you, your love for this type of artwork. Now is time for me to learn this technique. Wonderful balance and colors. I now know what abstract really is...
Thanks, Jacklyn! When you start something new (anything), you're not going to be an expert. Be kind to yourself and allow yourself the time to practice so that you can improve over time. Have fun creating!
Learn so much every time I watch one of your video! Was happy to see that you changed the “flowers’ to teal - lovely - and that you changed the upper right corner as well. I am starting a painting using your process - really radically changing an existing one that felt like I was in a rut with the same old same old. So, thank you for the inspiration and your generosity of spirit. Sorry I no longer live in the Bay Area! All the best, Kathe
Love your process and listening to the journey. So many levels to get to the end result. I saw at least 4 or 5 times where I was delighted right where it was but this is YOUR painting. 😊
This is uncanny - I randomly ended up on this video and you touch on two things I've struggled with and struggled to articulate. When is it done and why didn't I stop sooner? Watching this made me realize I should look at them more from different angles before continuing or stopping! Last night, my roommate was watching me paint and they asked me why I bothered to put all these colours down first and do different things to cover a fair amount of it up. I couldn't really explain it to them, because I didn't understand myself. You are right, it is very much like letting parts of yourself shine through or be hidden. As if every painting had a secret. Thank you. I am now a subscriber...thank you for clicking those two pieces together for me!
That is so cool! Thank you for sharing that with me. I love that you said that "every painting had a secret"--YES! Exactly how I feel. Not everyone needs to know why you covered something up, but they'll see/notice that something was covered up and to me that's so fascinating! It's good that your roommate asked you. These are questions that we don't often ask ourselves. If we can answer them, then we can better understand why we do what we do when we're painting. Thanks you for subscribing and wishing you many wonderfully creative hours in the studio!
Thank you for the inspiration! I have recently started abstract painting. After years of doing realism I find it freeing and a very expressive form... I am doing a couple paintings this weekend to donate to a fundraiser to support a local park. It is so nice to be able to give back. 😁
Looks great! I like that you can see your workbench. The most useful bit of info I've picked up from your videos lately is that mixing warm and cool colours makes mud. In all the classes I've done, art books I've read and videos I've watched no one had ever explained that. I could never figure out why two bright colours mixed could turn muddy, so I thank you.
Thanks for this Betty. I painted while watching, or rather listening to your video. A lot resonated with me, and as a beginner a lot felt reassuring. Thank you ☺️
Hi Betty yes I can see your technique and now see your application of colors in layers bring out more depth and tells a story as you go. Very interesting. The layering effects are very interesting . IAM glad I was able to hear listening and see your work as you create your artwork . That's a helpful for me. As you mentioned about step stool for top edge s of canvas touch up as you go. From Arizona USA Susan P. Peace and Joy to you!
I ordered a bunch of Nova color paints n lots of colors. I love the vibrancy of colors. Told them you sent me. It was a while ago n old memory does not remember if I thanked you. Ps. I am 70 this week and really love my art. I started when I was in my 40’s.
@@BettyFranksArt oops I am moving so have the paints packed it didn’t seem right the name. I fixed it. They are more expensive but are thick and wonderful.
This was my first time watching... couldn’t sleep so watched the whole video. Now I want to get up and paint! Haha! Sooo inspiring. Love the layering process!🥰
Thank you for sharing your art and creative process! It's amazing to how it evolves. Makes me want to start my own. For some of us (or most) it can be therapeutic... Thank you again and bravo!
Love your art style, I've learned so much from you and your technics that I'm not afraid of making a wrong decision since I can go over the canvas while making changes to the direction I want. This is another beautiful piece. Thank you Betty, hugs from Spain 💐
@@BettyFranksArt yes, indeed one of the few artists I've seen who justify the abstraction of their painting's theme !..and as I write this my two little ones are fighting it out with acrylic colours and their 8 feet by 4 feet canvas !!
BAHAHAHAHA. 58:50.... "oh boy, here we go..." bahahaha. I Loved that brighter yellow-greenish color though. But I love all your eventual choices, decisions based on your intuition. So fun to watch you create, Betty!
