In this video we plant some trees with the foliage tool, as well as how to add rocks and grass, create a dirt path by painting materials, and how to cover your terrain in foliage and flowers. These tools can be used to create just about any natural environment.

For anyone else struggling with making your riverbanks look wet, you need to select the wetness modifier in your palette. It is right under Material1. They skip this step in the tutorial.

@@bogus604 at 2:49 it zooms into the bottom right of the screen. Near the top of this, there is white text that says: Modifiers . It has two large WHITE icons next to it. One is of a checkered globe with a water drop, and the other is an eraser with the leaf. The 'WETNESS MODIFIER" is the checkered circle/globe with a water drop next to it. So to get here from the beginning, go to your project hierarchy window (top panel at the right with all of your assets). You select your terrain that you generated earlier. When selected, it changes the 'Properties' window below the hierarchy. Within the Properties window, select the 'Paint' tab (it's in blue). Within this, the 'Wetness' modifier is the checkered circle/globe with a water drop. Once selected, you can paint the edges of the waterbank to make them wet.

Yeah, it's skipped in the video. This step however is explained in detail in the Core Certification Part II-Foliage on the Core Academy website.

haha reminds me of making those tutorials on GameMaker. I hope this can make me get used to 3D stuff

This is a good video as is your Core Certification program. I do find the foliage steps in both the certification and video to be confusing. I think this can be improved by a couple of things. The main thing I have difficulty with is erasing the grass within the water once it is applied to one of the 'palettes'. The 'Foliage Eraser' tool does not seem to do what it is supposed to do. Maybe a video on this would help, because right now, all of my water is just grass!!! It looks weird and I can't change it. A video explaining the debug map would help too, as I don't really know what I'm looking at when I see it. But this series is excellent as is your Core Certification program.

Can you do more tutorials on how to make AI bots or enemies in your game. And how to adjust there movement and defensive ability. I also need a few more tutorials on making assets and art and making your animations. And I need a video on how make a new level for my existing game

so if I try to make a snow map then it won't let me paint over it meaning I can't add paths like the video is showing. What is the alternative method then?

very frustrating, I am following along exactly and as soon as i click on "Paint" Everything but the water disappears.. it removes the terrain from the properties..

Uhh. Wetness thing doesn't work. Treied multiple restarts. Foliage will not go to anything but Material 1 so I cannot put it into Mat3 or 4 and do what you're doing. It just doesn't let you do it lol. Later found out I can add it to a material tab lol

@@ryannavin Learn Lua, the scripting language. Or rethink your game mechanics.

In fact in Dreams on the PS4 I made my own logic for my crafting system. But it is set up with drag and drop logic operations. I would have to learn their scripting language and how to implement it here. You could look up community tutorials see if someone has figured it out.

Foliage keeps spawning randomly over every mask, no matter where I put it, It always spawn everywhere

I'm unable to get the mask to work properly, it only paints more rocks, it won't apply the water effect on top

@@HeroLanding I never did, I moved on to RPG Maker for new stuff. Unity and Unreal may be a bit complex but they are still the best tools for doing what CORE is trying to. Also you can publish your own stuff, CORE keeps your projects and it's not as intuitive as it appears

@@tingusmcmingus I had been playing with dreams and then saw this. Thought it might be my answer. But I have several concerns after looking at it closer. How ever I'm not a professional so I feel like I'm a layman going to buy a car.

the video goes so fast i can't keep up and it's really frustrating to keep rewinding the video. I keep screwing up because i become so confused trying to copy and learn at this videos pace. For future videos can you slow it down a bit. This speed is more for people who know where everything is and can just click n' done the whole thing.

@@umutpiynar9309 To increase your jumps 1) Go to and open Gameplay Settings folder in the hierarchy 2) Open the Third Person Camera Settings folder 3) Select Third Person Player Settings 4) Go down to the Properties Window, go down to Jump, then go to Jump Max Count and change the number to however many jumps you want

0:41 just why? its so unnecessary. why cant i just sculpt, paint etc. on one terrain like in other editors? no fun at all and you cant allways replicate the look of your previous terrain, before clicking on "create new terrain material". especially when you used a terrain material.
