‘I don’t really care about the looks because I’m going to abuse this bike, and it makes it less desirable for thieves’. This is a brilliant outlook to have on cosmetics!

@@coastrider8881 I’d love to know where in Spain this is, I’m planning a trip on my transalp down from Santander and this needs to be on my route! Also here’s a recent film on the transalp development you may not have seen… ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6NOVxvrWr5M.htmlsi=TzYv-rIHvXYDfDuo Really authentic presenting style you have, thoroughly enjoying your short films.👍

Thank you! It's the Costa Blanca area, but anywhere in Spain you are going to find amazing landscapes and cities / villages, from deserts to deep forests, and from snowy mountains to amazing clear sand beaches, so it's your choice! Enjoy!

Bon choix!

I too have done the cat removal mod and it's fantastic. You save a lot of heat and it sounds great even with the stock muffler. Also installed a 10mm longer rod on the rear shock and the ground clearance is very good. I replaced the fork oil with 10w oil for better damping and added fork preload adjusters.But i always had a problem with potholes and shock damping as i mentioned in another video.

Don't forget to put some progressive springs in front suspension. It changed the bike mostly compared for other tuning for me
@coastrider8881
@coastrider8881 10 месяцев назад
Yep, that's what I did in my 650, and it's part of the plan. But more about this on my future video about raising and upgrading the suspension. I suspect in my 700 the springs have already been replaced with progressive ones, but I need to check. Thanks for watching!

Hey there, i also own the same model and its in my future plans to turn it in to a more offroad machine, since its pretty stiff with its factory settings. It feels more like a road bike, which is pretty tiring when i choose to follow a dirt route. The information coming out of the bars is good off road but as soon as it hits rocks it jumps all over the place hitting back, becoming a nightmare to ride. If you can manage to turn it in to a machine that can travel long distance gravel roads in high speed, it will be a dream and you will save many many people like me wasting money and time through this process, since this is a very popular and loved bike amongst people. I subscribed and will be impatiently waiting for your next videos, be well fellow rider, thank you for this.

Thanks for your words mate! I will definitely try to make it more offroad capable, improving the suspension work and gaining some ground clearance. I thought the 700 had more similarities with the 650, but I'm discovering there is a lot of different things, the stiffness of the suspension being one of them. Cheers!

@souksoumouksou6489 9 месяцев назад
@@coastrider8881 yeah i agree. I drove a 650 the other day and i found out that there are more differences than similarities or improvements. Its almost a completely different bike, definitely tarmac oriented instead of a all-rounder. Being more capable off road would be a blast though. Im counting on you! 🤞🤞

That bike was built in Spain at Montesa Honda S.A. Mine is too, from 2008, a few owners before and 3200€ with 80k Kms. The bike is awesome, but I feel like the ABS is not there because I can feel my back tire drifting when I hit the brake pedal hard, and it's like the brakes grab the bike but still not feeling like another ABS's scratching sounds.
@coastrider8881
@coastrider8881 9 месяцев назад
Yep, built at Montesa, like my two previous 650. I was looking for a third 650 or a 700 without ABS, but this one was an amazing oportunity not to be missed. Coming from non ABS bikes I was scared how it would work offroad and was pleasantly surprised, you can really brake hard offroad as the ABS start to works when the rear wheel is already blocking, not before. It suits me perfectly. I've tried other bikes with ABS and didn't like them because the ABS started to work too early and you felt like you didn't have brakes anymore (for example the rear wheel on an Husqvarna 701 or KTM 690). I understand that for someone coming from ABS bikes, the system on the Transalp may feel weird, but I really like it. Cheers!

Nice video mty friend, i am a new rider and i am skeptical about the 5 gears. Is it good for touring with a 6 gear missing?
@coastrider8881
@coastrider8881 3 месяца назад
Yes, because it have good torque. Some people even put a 16 teeth sprocket for more relaxed touring. It's the one I have now, but I prefer the stock 15 teeth for city and offroad. Cheers!

Since you removed the cat have you done anything to the mapping? Installed a Powercommander maybe?
@coastrider8881
@coastrider8881 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for wathching. I haven't changed anything in the mapping. So far I'm happy with the change, but it's too soon to provide conclusions. I'm actually on family vacations, but as soon as I'm back I will thoroughly try the bike on different type of uses and roads, and then give my opinion.

Also had cat removed. No remapping is needed. Regarding remapping, I ended up installing boosterplug. Which seems to work fine. Actually, engine feels smoother and cooler. Maybe some extra power on low to mids revs, but no dyno proved

What is your average fuel consumption after cat removal?
@coastrider8881
@coastrider8881 2 месяца назад
Hi there! the average fuel consumption is not very useful, as it depends a lot on the way you ride and the type of roads you're usually on. My average consumption was reduced by around 0,2 l/100kms roughly. I drive often on small roads in a sporty way, so my consumption is usually around 6l/100kms. Shockingly, I had a better average consumption on my Transalp 650, despite being carbureted. But I still need to try some things on my 700, like a k&n airfilter and other mods. Cheers!
@tadejkirincic
@tadejkirincic 2 месяца назад
@@coastrider8881 Of course... I meant how much did your consumption lower after cat removal :) Well that is something. What is your average range with one tank currently?
@coastrider8881
@coastrider8881 2 месяца назад
Around 280kms, but I usually refill at 250/260. For my algerian trip I knew a couple of legs would be over 300kms whithout fuel, so I just brought a cheap 5 liters fuel canister. You can also buy a big 4/5 liters bottle of water, empty it (watering plants for example) refill it with fuel, use it as soon as your tank is half empty and dump it after (in a garbage can). No real need to install gigantic tanks on the bikes, as most of the time they're fuel stations everywhere.
