Must-have feature! Once users see it in one report, it becomes a standard for all others

Nice video! I have found better another method that avoids the "flicker" of hiding and showing buttons: - only 3 buttons (quarter, month, day) - 1 slicer that will be hidden with 3 options (quarter, month, day) - the bookmarks just toggle the slicer selection and the non-button visuals - measures to conditional the fill color of the buttons depending on the slicer selection

I used the same method (hidden slicer) for a one button toggle Show/Hide specific rows in a matrix.

Ps: you can also make measures for the text color if you are alternating between a light and dark fill

Hi Ary, that's actually the other method I was speaking of that would work, but is more complicated. In the method I showed all you need is 2x buttons, then setup/create the bookmark. When I attempted this other method I had to to: create a disconnected table, since I have three buttons...then create measures for: capturing disconnected table selection, then measures for the color for each of the three states for the three buttons (9 measures). Then add a slicer to the page, and create the three disconnected table selection for that bookmark (with slicer hidden). Then you have to individually apply the conditional formatting per state per button (9x repeat process). This took quite a bit more time and unique objects in the model for me. Still hoping someday I can do this easily with a native button feature where it can just "detect" if the assigned bookmark in action is active or not. :)

This tutorial is so much awesome and amazing! Thank you very much for your great videos!

This is a great technique which I always use, but you'd get a lot of objects and bookmarks so things can get messy pretty quickly. I wonder if Microsoft will come up with better solutions around this...

I'm hoping someday there's a way for the button to "detect" if the current "active" bookmark is the one assigned to it or not. It would make this process a lot simpler!

@@HavensConsulting Yes, some visual formatting that can be set along with a bookmark would be nice.

Two additions, if you don't mind Reid. 1) the easiest way for pixel perfect matching is to use coordinates in General blade of visual properties. You can also Ctrl-Select a group of visuals and then do coordinates for all of them at once. 2) the "safest" way to change options of a bookmark is a right-click. The issue is that when you have many bookmarks, you may miss that tiny menu button and instead just select a bookmark. And all all your meticulous selecting/aligning/etc will be ruined, just because you wanted to Update a bookmark, but instead jumped to it. 2a) Group the bookmarks when you have too many. 2b) You can move them up and down to make the selection easier when you assign it to the Action of a button or a shape. I have a report with 15 pages, 4-6 bookmarks on each, so scrolling down through the list is unbearable without rearranging groups of bookmarks. Oh, and thank your Reid, your buttons are the best. My favorite was with using unicode circle to mimic a toggle.

Hi Vlad. I'd actually disagree on adjusting the size via the general panel for visuals is easier. It requires more time to input numbers, and adjust x/y for each visual every time. I've rarely used it since snap to grid came out, since the majority of my moving/resizing works well with the 8 pixel adjustments it's made. Of the evidence I've collected checking the pixel settings in there after snapping multiple objects to the same areas. I've always found it to apply the same pixel numbers to both. :)

You're correct that right-clicking can be a safer option. I've only rarely accidentally toggled it, and for the sake of people following along, it is helpful in the video to show a clear button for people to click. So that's why I typically use the elipsis (...).

Grouping is essential. The (already existing) bookmarks in this video were grouped, and I've mentioned grouping before. It wasn't the focus of this video though, so I don't mention each best practice for every feature every time. Since I've done now over 20+ videos related to bookmarks, and RU-vid view rates fall the longer the video is. Thanks for watching! 😊

@@HavensConsulting Makes sense. Very entrepreneurial of you 👍 I hope you're not taking it personal. Since I don't have a channel, and I doubt I'll ever do (I realize how much work and time investment it is) I just pitch in here and there. You're one of the best, Reid! ✨

Sad that Power BI is able take over the market despite being so half baked. Practically everything visual requires annoying workarounds like this.
