Hello from Chisasibi, QC Thank you for sharing .. I used to have a phobia of spiders. Today I have so much respect for them. And even more now as hearing the Cree story of life and the connection to the spiritual realm 🪶
I liked that story because in my experience spiders and bears are creatures to be feared and respected. Gaining knowledge/assistance from them is not something I would have really considered which only leads to ignorance. What it must have been like to be in new territory and have the wisdom to respectfully observe the animals to learn their lessons and then put them to practice. If you're the first there, it's so incredibly clever.
I am watching this video for a First Nations, Inuit, and Metis course I am taking. Beautiful story. I could listen to you talk for hours. Thank you for sharing this.
My great grandmother was Alice Apetakeshikow. Thank you for sharing this story. I have been researching my family history for a while and have recently started to look deeper into our ancestors past and what it means to be a member of Moose Cree First Nation. I can see I have a long way to go.
Wow I'm from Ontario California. Named after Ontario Canada. I wrote this about my town Ontario California Ever since I was four years old...Ontario has been my town, my home. Before this town was even first founded, there was a time when she was nearly surrounded, by grape vineyards for making fine wine. There were orchards where lemons and oranges grew; some tangerine, grapefruit and avocado too. From time to time, it just came and went...that sweet Sunkist scent. An aroma so familiar in the misty morning dew...always a citrus breeze blowing on our way to school. Since the Euclid Trolley Cars and Track, have retired and won't be coming back...The grassy Euclid Center Divide is now lined with roses both far and wide. And the lemon blossoms unique sweet scent, perfumes the warm spring air a hint. The nesting birds sound very very content because nature assures them another seasons free rent. The annual Autumn Santa Ana winds, mark the fall season before winter can begin. Its powerful gusts blow down the fresh pine air, that's almost to crisp for your nose to bare. And who does not enjoy the view of the snow dusted mountain peaks? What an awesome and breathless sight; especially if you catch a glimpse of how they glow in the full moons' light. So the next time these devil winds blow, just remember that they clean up our air; make the sun shine more bright; and from this sometimes dull, sunk-in valley, make all the mountains that surround us, an exclusively rare and beautiful sight. I am still proud to know and proud to show, a city where my family will live and grow, I feel it deep in the heart of my home town ..we call ONTARIO. Thank you! I am Chippewa Cree - apart of the stone child Rez. its hard to learn about the history bc I moved around my whole life. if you have any books that could help me learn about tradition I would love to read it.
Thanks Stan, for your introduction and for your father's great presentation. My personal reaction? This video deserves to go viral. As well, irrespective of racial denomination or religion, I believe schools and libraries across Canada would do well to invite your father to meet and address our children. Thanks for this opportunity!
Hello Sirs! Greetings from Santa Cruz, California. I really enjoyed this video and am happy your father is keeping traditional storytelling alive. Norm is an active, engaging human! I am currently writing a paper on Moose Cree resilience for a native cultures course and would like to ask for consent to share a little of this knowledge in the paper. Warmly Daniel Davis
Thank you for this video. I am Cree and am trying to learn my culture and history. This is difficult becuase I live in Australia and am disconnected from my people. We have only just learned about who we are after decades of searching
I wonder at which era this happened? There is a story of the flood. In the nehiyaw creation story that i heard it actually goes back to the beginning- when there was only ekowa and the mind, humans were created way later.
No worse than any other religion/culture. My question always is does the story have value as a metaphor for something helpful for all of humanity, or is it divisive like most other creation stories?
