I was reminded of something today that can make it easier to place weapons - appreciate the tip! Select a weapon and pay attention to the white squares, those denote valid placement locations. That way you don't need to hunt around for them. I'll try to get better at checking this as it's not a natural thing for me yet, and I'll mention it next week in one of the future videos.

this was the mission i needed to start googling stuff. there's so much info on the mechanics that the game doesn't tell you. with all the text it likes to spam at you is just weird how little information there is.

There's definitely a lot of unexplained mechanics, but I'm curious what you needed to google here? Everything you need to complete this mission is covered in earlier ones.

@@strategicsage7694 I thought the point is to be as efficient as possible with placing stuff around. For example i didn't know covering the whole area with pylons is a thing. I couldn't complete this mission in the way i completed the previous ones. English is also not my native language and after seeing the walls of texts it gives at the beginning of a mission, i quickly started ignoring them as i thought it's just pointless story. I just used the info button to learn about what items do, but as it turns out it insufficient what it tells you. Also doesn't help that the UI is rather bad, and having not played any CW games before it's really confusing with all the numbers in small font. Having some toolbox texts on hover over on the HUD texts that tells exactly what it is would be really helpful. I'd also say this game needs regular and advanced tutorial levels where handholding is enabled, make those levels optional doesn't matter, but as a new to the series i'd greatly appreciate them =)

I can definitely understand the language barrier - I don't play non-English games for that reason as I don't know enough of any foreign language to even try. I am assuming here you are talking about Towers, not actually Pylons - you don't need to cover the area with Pylons. On the Towers, Info does in fact tell you about that, directly saying that they produce the green soylent for energy and to space them out for efficiency, etc. This was also discussed in the first mission and was the primary objective of the fourth mission, in which there is large yellow text with a flashing hazard sign telling the player 'Tower Energy Offline' until you get the info cache which fixes it. It sounds to me like it's more of the game not presenting the information in a way that you wanted it to, rather than it not being there at all. FYI the entirety of the Farsite Expedition *is* the tutorial for CW games; it's not the end of the journey but just the beginning of it, preparing you for other areas such as Span Experiments, user maps in the Colonies, etc. In terms of the numbers being in small font, you can just make them larger. There is a prominent UI Scaling option.

@@strategicsage7694 yeah i'll manage. wouldn't play it if it weren't good. i just wish it were bit more polished around the edges and bit more accessible.

Not sure if you've already learned this in later missions, but you'll want to pay attention to the wall settings. You actually turned *off* the AC blocking in the wall close by the base, but the natural elevation and apparent rightward pull for AC in this map (countering the creeper's leftward pull) kept it from going in your base anyway. By and large, the settings on the walls are preset to what would make the most strategic sense for the mission.

Good catch - that was definitely a brain cramp of some kind there. Set it to the opposite of what I wanted to do apparently.

Regarding the sides where the nullifiers need built, you don't need to build the towers from the main land, idk if this is due to a newer update or not, but current version of the game allows you to cram a tower onto either the small bit of land that your pilon is on, or, on the island that you put your mortars on, timing wise, it's still the same, those mortars will still try to hammer the creeper uberwave when it breaches the first wall, so, it's a limited benefit to build them earlier than you did, but, conceivably, if someone were to try speedrunning this map, that'd probably be clutch.
@strategicsage7694
@strategicsage7694 Год назад
I don't think the mission has been changed, it's definitely still possible. Going for a speed-run, this map could definitely be done *much* faster.
@xdonthave1xx

About the barrier and AC blocking, weird quirk of this level is that the creeper flows west (towards your base) and the anti-creeper flows east. And when I did this level, it took a few tries, until I just set up a mortar outside one of the islands. Was able to clear enough land to move my station over. I built up weapons to just clear a way back to the main area, and fought to reclaim my starting land. By then, the creeper already flowed past its initial area due to this level’s quirk. This level took me longer to complete than a speedrunner could the entire campaign.

Good observation, I didn't realize how the flow was adjusted until well after I'd played this map. It definitely has tripped up a fair amount of people on their first time through it.

After beating the level (Cheesing it BADLY and slowly) i had to google the proper way to beat it, thank you sir. For those interested, after that first big wave overwhelms your base, it just kinda sticks there, leaving the other half of the map clean for the most part, so i landed my main base there and slowly wiped the map with tiny turrets and my crappy 1 base generation. Idk why the big wave doesnt come back once it washes over the original position.
@strategicsage7694
@strategicsage7694 3 года назад
You're welcome! The reason why the wave doesn't go back is that there is a 'wind' that pushes the creeper to the left on the map.
@xavierdoe2452
@xavierdoe2452 2 года назад
There is an easier and backward way to do this level. Let the Creeper take over, it will just stay on the other side of the map and not regress back. The Emitters then pumps out so little Creeper that you can move the base from the other side of the map and wipe out the Creeper and Emitters as you're leisure.
@strategicsage7694

Yep. I wasn't aware of the 'wind' effect at the time I did this.

It pumps out dribble creeper for a while and then you get another big wave. Plus there are no resources on the other side.

Thank you. I'm disappointed with the game devs for hitting us with such a hard level so early in the game. It's not much of a learning curve if you have to go online for the solution. Even with your skill you only made it in the nick of time against that wall of water.
@strategicsage7694

You're welcome, but I am going to respectfully disagree on the map itself. Some people go through the whole campaign, never get challenged by any part of it, and are upset that it isn't harder. So it really depends on the player, and opinions vary greatly on the difficulty. FWIW this map wasn't as 'close' as I may have looked. I planned it out to get as much built as I thought I could, but you don't have to do it that way. You can build a fair amount less, not connect to the shield or even the pyramid initially, and still very much win the mission. It just takes longer is all.
@Peleski
@Peleski Год назад
@@strategicsage7694 I don't see it that way. If you dont get the shield up in time, your entire base will be wiped, with a mountain of creep sitting on all the major resources. I'd need to see someone bound back from it to be convinced. At any rate, the shield method worked for me so won't be revisiting that poorly implemented level.
@strategicsage7694

@@Peleski Build enough mortars/cannons at the wall just in front of your base, and your base will not be wiped at all. You can just hold at that energy wall and gradually beat it back. Most of your resources are west of it. I will probably be making a video to demonstrate if I can find time shortly after the new year, in case you're interested in actually seeing it.
@Peleski

@@strategicsage7694 I suppose that's the original intent of the map, so I wouldn't need to see it. Still a bit too steep of a difficulty jump for level 4, esp given the later levels are so easy.

Thanks! Turns out I just needed to rush more and spam more mortars... One thing I did notice though, you don't need to creep along the edges to connect mortars on those little islands, if you put a pylon on the first island you can fit a mortar and a tower on the second, and the tower will connect and power the mortar
@strategicsage7694
@strategicsage7694 3 года назад
Glad this helped! You make a good point - I still haven't totally wrapped my head around the fact that you can put towers in a lot more places that you might expect - that's definitely an improvement over what I did.
@neekfenwick
@neekfenwick 3 года назад
Haha .. once I realised that towers produce energy, I tried to rush forward as in this video, but my attempt was completely overwhelmed, and I has to retreat and ended up with a row or two of mortars behind the last wall, just in front of my base, with the wall turning red and it seemed my time was up.. luckily this was enough to stem the tide, and I managed to push back and advance in that one play-through.
@tjmoncur0231

You can fit a regular tower on the islands and still fit a mortar. So, kind of like you have it, but put a tower on the same island as the pylon, then another tower on the 2nd island, slap a mortar on the 2nd island, too. It'll eat away enough of the creep that you can get a pylon on and eventually take down the node. No pushing up mid required.

I wonder if there is something else that can be done with the power buildings to the sides. The mission starts off as "Optional: Nullify Enemies: 0/2" but then when you place a Nullifier next to them and they are destroyed, it goes to "Optional: Nullify Enemies: 0/0". It's as if the optional missions were failed.
@strategicsage7694
@strategicsage7694 3 года назад
I don't think that's the case, but I can see why it would appear that way. I think the enemy stations act differently because the Nullifier destroys them instead of just shutting them down like it does with other hostile structures. Since they are eliminated, the game simply removes them from the number left to nullify instead of counting them as nullified.
@GunnyNinja

I have no idea what I'm doing half of the time. I cleared this map before I even knew about the factory. We Know Nothing is Right...But I shut down the flow before killing the big wave. When you put those pylons on the little pads, you can put a mortar on the second pad and it will clear the islands so that you can build the nullifiers. That stops the flow. My solutions was way worse than this, but that proves there is always more than one way to skin a chicken. (That's right, who the hell skins cats?)

For better or worse it's a little late for that at this point - I haven't played this game for years. I found though in many situations it's better to have mostly one or the other.
