I know you’re talking about movies but if you wanna know what kids are actually watching in terms of “horror” it’s awful 3am challenge, garbage on RU-vid. Made by horrible scammers and literal criminals (jaystation) who put zero effort into their content and make millions cause kids have no standards for what they watch. Horror for kids is not a road you wanna go down. Ignorance is bliss sometimes.

@@Luckypants2113 hey man, give garbage some credit! its not THAT bad. as a teen who was a kid around the time that stuff was at its most popular (atleast i think), even as a child i thought that kind of stuff was a sad attempt at scary lol. not even children are fooled half the time, esp with all the horror readily available in their spaces (think smile hd or cupcakes hd). it's a pathetic excuse of "content".

It was a game changer (tragically). Not only did it start the conversation about kidnapped children and child murder, but it set off a series of horrible events. For someone who lived right near there at that time (I had just moved to Miami with my family the year or so prior - I was about 13 I think at the time), it consumed us as a local area, and then nationally. John Walsh's life changed forever - he was accused of the horrific murder and then dedicated his life to trying to avoid it happening ever again with America's Most Wanted. I still think about it from time to time when I watch something that reminds me of that little boy and seeing his picture everywhere or if something happens to a little kid. Just horrifying.

Genie was 13 when she was rescued in 1970, though I could see thinking she was younger as she was very malnourished and her physical development had been intentionally stunted. It's hard to say how much being alone (and tied to a toilet) most of the day impacted her as she was also continuously malnourished and beaten starting at about 11 mo, so its not clear what's from her being feral and what's from brain damage. Her father also killed at least one of his kids and kept his wife (who went blind from how much she was beaten) and a son hostage in the house, however the son was older when this started. Sadly, it is true almost all feral kids were abused. Though there are a few instances of kids (such as Marcos Rodriguez Pantoja) who became feral as part of escaping abuse. So that's at least a little less sad maybe?
@assuming9735
@assuming9735 5 лет назад
I think the time when movies about children being born evil is really relevant historically as well, because World War 2 had just ended and psychologists were trying to figure out what could lead a group of people like the Nazis to do the horrible things they did. I think culturally then, and even now, we had this idea that some people are just "born evil" to justify their actions and keep us from self reflecting. Very cool video and topic by the way! I had such a crazy nostalgia trip when "Who Can Kill A Child?" got brought up because I've seen that movie on a trip to Mexico when I was younger and I completely blanked on everything about it until hearing this.

By “It takes a village” to raise a child in my mind that is the close extended family e.g. grandparents and close friends. In that sense I don’t think that has changed for millennia. If we use “village” in the sense of unvetted family, acquaintances, and government agents, including teachers, then no way would I want that group to raise my children. Honestly, I think the vast majority would have that view. I think the horror of your children being monsters is timeless. Eraserhead’s main theme deals with this horror. Having and raising children is also the primary driver of human fulfillment. There’s a real primal dichotomy in child rearing. IMO birth control drugs really messes with basic human drives. It seems our overall morality went off the rails with the popularity of birth control….Maybe the morning after pill is overall less harmful…Hmmm Big props to Chelsea’s research. There's a really good creepy killer kids Christmas movie called The Children from 08 (I believe) that fits into the feral children category, but also can be blamed on the parents. I'd recommend it for anyone's holiday horror list.

Chelsea, your research reminds me of Sean Evans from the First We Feast, Hot Ones show. His interview style is known for his attention to detail and ability to ask questions that not too many people know - yet alone would ask,. Good job.

Does “The Good Son” count as a horror movie? I ask because Macaulay Culkin was one hell of a disturbing, creepy kid in that.

40:04 a good refrence to gorilaz - kids with guns idk if this is what the song is about or like if they wrote it in that matter but when ever life presented me with like a hard choices or hard events i was like kids with guns the idea of an tiny kids ( a happy and incent thing ) with the cheater the power to take ones and "cheat the system" per se like the imege of a kid that have so much on his shoulders that his calls well make the fate of so many folks, in a poetic manor we are all kids with guns in some point in out life, fope job chelsea great ep!!

there were 2 episodes of the 2001-2004 Justice League cartoon called Legends part 1 & 2 that was a sort of retelling of It's a Good Life, where the Justice League is sent into a alternate dimension that has real versions of in universe comic book heroes (in the JLA universe these heroes are just fiction) Justice League and Justice League Unlimited are pretty good and hold up even today.

You should talk about how SAW used the iconic door slam of Texas Chainsaw Massacre as a new plot in the movie.. How elements of one movie are as familiar and iconic in other movies without being rip-offs..

My sister used to be pretty creepy when she was younger. She had a tendency to sleepwalk and would just kinda walk into your room and stare at you, kind of like that one kid in the conjuring. She would also sing in her sleep lol.

Chelsea and James are awesome. But I just wanted to mention the Japanese RINGU from 1998. In that the evil ghost Sadako was an adult. The American remake in 2002 changed the character into a creepy child named Samara.

Macaulay Culkin was horrifying in The Good Son. I caught the movie when I was nine years old. My parents were asleep and it was on Starz or one of the other movie channels. I loved horror movies, but..that wasn't why I watched that movie. I saw Macaulay and was just like, "Kevin!! Thomas J!!" Because I grew up on Home Alone and My Girl. Yeah, I despised his character(Henry) in the Good Son.
