Love the guy sitting on the edge of the platform. These days an employee in a huge safety jacket would scold the gent and then call the police. He would then spend two hours reporting a 'near miss' to the local authority. Taxpayers money would then be spent on a poster campaign to remind people to sit on benches. Trainspotting would be banned at Crewe
I remember at the end of what think was platform 11 that there was an disused bay where the track had been lifted and spotters used to stand there on the ballast to get a better view into the depot. It was about the closest point you could get to the diesel depot back then. Not sure when it changed.
Platform 12 it was, done it myself many a time when I used to go. Noticed on some recent videos there seems to be a palisade fence blocking that access now.
@@nelson408. Not been for a long time and when I do I don't spend that much time there, so not sure what changes they've made, but thought for some reason that they'd filled it in.
What a wonderful video of times gone by. I never did much train spotting and what I did do was just here in Swindon. I worked in the rail works for eight years and saw many locos in there plus plenty waiting to be broken up. I had my Ian Allen train spotting book ! Any trip in a train and I would have my book ready. I wish my dad shared the hobby with me. Buses was another one for me. I go to bus rallies to this day and watch the steam locos on linking vintage bus rides to the Watercress Line at Alton as an example.
Nice bag of traction here, liked the ex-Scottish 37/4s, 408 even sporting its Scottie Dog on one side. How drastically different the railway scene was only ten years later.
